A man identified as Mohammed Ansari was taken into custody after he allegedly attempted to damage the idol at the Santoshi Mata Temple in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad, on Friday, 2 October 2026.

The incident took place within the Chaitanyapuri police limits while the temple priest and devotees were present. According to reports, Ansari entered the garbagruha of the temple carrying sticks or branches and allegedly vandalised with the idol.

Visuals circulating on social media show a man entering the temple and throwing branches near the idol. However, the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the incident are yet to be established by the police.

Devotees and others present at the temple reportedly caught the man and handed him over to the police. According to Telugu media reports, members of the public also assaulted him before police arrived at the spot and took him into custody.

Chaitanyapuri police have taken Ansari into custody and registered a case, with further investigation underway. Police have also reportedly said that Ansari is undergoing mental-health treatment.
