The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Monday (January 31) ordered to transfer the suicide case of Lavanya to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
It is expected that the CBI will conduct a fair and impartial investigation taking into account the Religious Conversion’ angle and the role of the Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School.
While the initial plea of Lavanya’s parents had sought for a CB-CID probe, they sought a CBI probe in the last hearing on 28th January 2022.
Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai said that he was thankful to the court for ensuring justice to Lavanya.
Lavanya case handed over to CBI.
Thankful to Madurai High court for standing for Justice. #NationWithLavanya

This is being hailed as a big victory for the BJP which had been demanding for a CBI inquiry into the death of the girl.
Lavanya, 17 year old girl studying at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School in Michaelpatti near Thanjavur, committed suicide by drinking pesticide after she was allegedly tortured to convert to Christianity by the school.
