The encroached Oppiliappan temple land near Kumbakonam was reclaimed on Monday (February 21). 1.59 acres of land belonging to Oppiliappan Venkatachalapathy Swamy Temple near Kumbakonam is under the revenue village of Channapuram. The cultivator who had been cultivating this land was sued by the Thanjavur Revenue Court for the non-payment of the lease arrears. The eviction order in this case was issued by the Revenue Court.
Accordingly, in the presence of the Revenue Department, the Police Department and the department of Hindu Reliogus & Charitable Endowments, the land was recovered on Monday and handed over to the Venkatachalapathy Swamy Temple officials of the Oppiliappan Temple. It has been announced that legal action will be taken against those who trespass on this land.
