Security agencies in Rajasthan have detained a 30-year-old man on suspicion of espionage for Pakistan, marking the fourth such arrest in Jaisalmer district this year.
The accused, identified as Jivan Khan, a resident of Sankada area, was intercepted on Tuesday near the Army station in Jaisalmer. According to officials, Khan had earlier worked at a restaurant inside the military zone and was attempting to regain entry when he was stopped at the gate. Military Intelligence personnel checked his mobile phone, which showed suspicious activity, including multiple Pakistani contacts. He was later handed over to Kotwali police.
Sources said Khan was under surveillance for some time and was caught while speaking to a Pakistani number. During questioning, he admitted to having relatives in Pakistan. He is expected to be produced before the Joint Interrogation Centre, where several security agencies will question him further.
Khan’s arrest comes days after the detention of DRDO guest house manager Mahendra Prasad on 13 August 2025. Prasad, a resident of Almora in Uttarakhand, was accused of passing sensitive details about the movement of DRDO scientists and Army officers at the Chandan Field Firing Range. Investigators alleged that he had been in touch with a Pakistani handler operating under the alias “Colonel AK Singh.”
This year has seen a series of espionage cases in Rajasthan’s border districts. On 26 March 2025, Pathan Khan from Karam Ki Dhani near Chandan Field Firing Range was arrested under the Official Secrets Act. On 28 May 2025, Shakoor Khan, a government employee and personal assistant to former Congress minister Saleh Mohammad, was detained and later formally arrested on 3 June 2025.
Officials said that since Operation Sindoor, surveillance and counter-intelligence measures in Rajasthan’s border areas have been intensified, with agencies keeping close watch on individuals suspected of maintaining links with Pakistan.
