The District Crime Branch has registered a case against Kadayanallur DMK MLA and former MDMK functionary T M Rajendran and his brother Chelladurai for allegedly facilitating the illegal registration of 9.7 acres of land belonging to a differently abled man in their names, as reported in The New Indian Express.
According to the FIR registered on Friday, the police have also named the then-Sub-Registrar of Melaneelithanallur, Village Administrative Officer Arulmari, Zonal Deputy Tahsildar Mohideen Battani and surveyor Usha as accused in the case.
The alleged irregularities took place between 2008 and 2019. All the accused have been booked under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.
According to sources, the complaint was filed by N Murugiah, whose ancestral land is situated in Thirumalapuram village near Sankarankovil. The FIR reportedly alleges that the accused, with the assistance of Murugiah’s brother Sekar, registered the land without obtaining the required documents, including his father’s death certificate, legal heir certificate and the signatures of the legal heirs.
Sources said the case was registered following repeated complaints by Murugiah over several years.
