The Paramakudi police have registered a case against 30 people, including Paramakudi DMK MLA’s son Duraimurugan, in a case of DMK councillor being stabbed.
Katharbatcha Muthuramalingam, DMK Ramanathapuram MLA, was recently re-elected as the DMK District Secretary.
Subsequently, when he arrived at Paramakudi, DMK Councilor Bhagyaraj of the fifth ward of the district had stuck posters and banners in the area to welcome him.
The banner, however, did not feature Paramakudy DMK MLA Murugesan for which his relative Vicky aka Vignesh verbally abused DMK Councillor Bhagyaraj, an audio of which was released to the media.
In the alleged phone conversation between the two, when DMK councillor told DMK MLA Murugesan that his son Vignesh was harassing him over the phone, he responded saying “My son would have questioned about the banner as it did not carry MLA’s photo.” to which the DMK councilor asked in response,”I’m putting up a banner with my own money. Why put your picture on it?”.
An enraged MLA responded, “Oh you have come to that level. Let me show my strength.”
In this scenario, DMK MLA Murugesan and DMK councillor Bhagyaraj both took part in a programme to give free bicycles to schools students in Paramakudi.
It is alleged that DMK MLA Murugesan and his followers argued with DMK councillor Bhagyaraj at the time for not including MLA’s picture on the banner.
After the program, DMK Councilor Bhagyaraj and DMK Paramakudi north District Secretary Jeevanandham, who were on their way home, was attacked by DMK MLA Murugesan’s supporters near Paramakudi five-point junction .
They also stabbed him in ribs before fleeing the scene.
Police rushed to the spot upon receiving information and interrogated the severely injured Bhakyaraj, who was then taken to the Paramakudi Government Hospital for treatment.
Bhagyaraj has complained that 25 people including DMK MLA Murugesan’s son Duraimurugan and his cousin Vicky assaulted them. Subsequently, Vicky has also given a complaint against Bhagyaraj, Jeevanandam and Madhusudhanan for threatening to kill him.
Paramakudi Nagar police are looking into the complaints made by both parties.
