Controversy continues to trail actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), with the party’s upcoming state conference in Madurai once again drawing criticism. From disputed flex boards to oversized flagpoles, TVK has repeatedly landed in the spotlight, and now fresh concerns have emerged over the removal of NH road dividers to create VIP entryways for the event.

The second state conference of TVK is scheduled for 21 August 2025 in Madurai. Ahead of the gathering, reports have surfaced that several roads, despite already having designated parking routes, have been damaged or altered to accommodate the arrangements.

To manage the anticipated traffic surge, the Madurai District Police has announced major diversions and alternate routes:

Parking – 1

  • Vehicles from Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi districts must pass through Kovilpatti, Aruppukottai, Kariyapatti, and Aviyur.
  • Those from Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar should take Aruppukottai–Kariyapatti–Aviyur.
  • Vehicles from Ramanathapuram should move via Parthibanur, Narikudi, Tiruchuzhi, Aruppukottai, Kariyapatti, and Aviyur.
  • Vehicles from Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, and Sivaganga must take the Sivaganga–Thiruppuvanam–A. Mukkulam–Meenakshipuram–Aviyur stretch.

Parking – 1A

  • Vehicles from western districts such as Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri should proceed via Dindigul, Pandiyarajapuram, Nagamalai Pudukkottai, Kappalur Overpass, Melakottai, and Koodakovil.
  • Vehicles from Theni should arrive through Andipatti Kanavai, Usilampatti, Sekkanoorani, Nagamalai Pudukkottai, Kappalur, and Koodakovil.

Parking – 2 & 3

  • Vehicles from Chennai, Villupuram, Vellore, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, and Tiruvannamalai via Trichy should take the Viralimalai–Melur–Viraganur roundabout–Aruppukottai junction–Parapati route.

Routes for heavy vehicles
Heavy vehicles have been directed to bypass Madurai through a network of alternative highways. Those coming from Chennai and the northern districts heading to southern regions such as Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Nellai, Tenkasi, and Kumari must take the Trichy–Manapparai–Dindigul–Thirumangalam highway. Conversely, vehicles from southern districts bound for northern Tamil Nadu are required to reroute via Thirumangalam, Dindigul, and Trichy. Similarly, multiple alternate routes have been mapped out for heavy vehicles from Theni, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and western districts to minimize congestion in and around Madurai.

Public transport routes
General public vehicles coming from other districts towards Madurai, or further on to Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Nellai, Tenkasi, and Kumari, must take either the four-lane Ramanathapuram highway via Viraganur–Thirubhuvanam–Narikudi–Tiruchuzhi–Aruppukottai, or proceed through the Kappalur flyover–Thirumangalam–Kallikudi–Kariyapatti–Aruppukottai.

Guidelines for party members
Police have also urged TVK cadres and affiliated political groups not to arrive on two-wheelers, citing safety concerns and the potential for traffic blockages. Additionally, vehicles have been advised to avoid the Aruppukottai junction–Parapati stretch on the national highway and instead make use of alternative roads.
