Delhi Influencer Amir Shokeen, Who Has A History Of Harassment, Arrested Over Racial Abuse Of Tripura Youth

Delhi-based content creator Amir Shokeen who calls himself Amir Shokeen Baba has been arrested after a viral video allegedly showed him racially abusing and humiliating a youth from Tripura. The incident triggered widespread outrage across the Northeast, prompting action by Delhi Police and Tripura Police, condemnation from political leaders and renewed scrutiny of the influencer’s previous brushes with the law, as reported in NDTV.

The controversy has also brought attention to Shokeen’s earlier criminal cases and allegations made against him by his own brother, Mohammed Wasim Raja.

‘Are You China’s President?’: What The Viral Video Shows

A video circulating on social media allegedly shows Shokeen asking a young man about his identity before mocking his appearance and regional background. When the youth identifies himself as Indian and says he is from Tripura, Shokeen allegedly asks whether he is the “China President” and makes further derogatory remarks, including calling him “Michael Jackson”.

The footage also shows Shokeen making inappropriate gestures and touching the youth in a humiliating manner.

The video sparked widespread condemnation, particularly among people from Northeast India, who said the remarks reflected the racial stereotyping and discrimination they routinely face.

The Tripura Students Forum Delhi lodged a complaint seeking an investigation into alleged racial harassment, sexual harassment and public humiliation. The organisation also called for the preservation of the original video, its metadata and other digital evidence.

Delhi Police registered an FIR at Sadar Bazar police station under Sections 192, 196, 352 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The provisions cover provocation with intent to cause a riot, promoting enmity between groups, intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, and statements or information conducing to public mischief.

Arrested After Police Raids; Apologises And Claims Video Was Scripted

On 22 October 2026, Delhi Police arrested Shokeen after conducting searches at multiple locations. He was reportedly traced to Karol Bagh, where he was apprehended.

Before his arrest, Shokeen posted an apology video in which he claimed the interaction was scripted and that he knew the youth personally. He said the young man had previously worked at a friend’s café in Ahmedabad and maintained that the video was intended as a joke.

“I had no intention of saying anything bad about anyone,” he said in his apology, while seeking forgiveness from people in Tripura.

However, the explanation did little to quell the outrage. The Tripura Students Forum disputed his account of the relationship between the two men. The circumstances surrounding the recording and the youth’s participation remain matters for investigation.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the alleged conduct and called for strict action. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha also directed the state’s Director General of Police to coordinate with Delhi Police.

Tripura Police also registered a separate case and coordinated with Delhi Police. The investigation involves the police’s Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER) and Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit.

Delhi Police Says Shokeen Has Previous Cases, Describes Him As ‘Bad Character’

The racial abuse controversy has brought renewed attention to Shokeen’s reported police record.

Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Niharika Bhatt described him as a “bad character” in the Sadar Bazar area and said he had previously been involved in multiple cases of brawling. Police reports also refer to earlier cases involving alleged molestation and physical altercations.

According to reports citing police officials, earlier cases against Shokeen were registered under the following provisions of the Indian Penal Code:

  • Section 323: Voluntarily causing hurt.
  • Section 324: Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
  • Section 504: Intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
  • Section 506: Criminal intimidation.
His Own Brother Calls Him A ‘Miscreant’, Alleges Extortion And Property Grabbing

In another development, Shokeen’s brother, Mohammed Wasim Raja, publicly distanced his family from him and levelled serious allegations against him.

Speaking to ANI, Raja said, “Amir Shokeen is a miscreant who has many cases filed against him. Sometimes he goes around with people from the Aam Aadmi Party or others, or Imran. He also does extortion and illegally occupies properties. He had illegally acquired my property too. We cut all ties with him 12-14 years ago. We are four brothers in total.”

A Separate Video Allegedly Shows Him Filming A Woman Without Consent

Another video circulating online, reportedly featuring Shokeen, has prompted allegations of public harassment of a working woman.

The clip is said to show a woman being filmed under the caption “Ladki Kaise Patae”, with the creator allegedly making double-meaning remarks while she attempts to hide her face.

And that is not his first harassment video too, here’s more.

When Humiliation Becomes Social Media Content

Amir Shokeen’s arrest raises questions about content creators who build their online following by humiliating others. The viral video shows him mocking a youth from Tripura using racial slurs and making degrading gestures. Shokeen later claimed the interaction was scripted, but that does not automatically justify conduct that humiliates another person.

His previous police cases and allegations made by his own brother have also resurfaced amid the controversy. While these claims must be distinguished from proven offences, the case highlights a larger issue: social media popularity cannot excuse racial harassment, and calling humiliation entertainment does not place anyone above the law.
