Commie Neha Bora Praises Bangladesh’s Gen-Z Movement As Inspiration For Indian Protests; Yunus Had Called It “Meticulously Designed”

On 14 October 2026, Neha Bora expressed solidarity with Bangladesh’s Socialist Students Front during its sixth national conference, praising the student-led movement that led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and describing it as an inspiration for young political protesters in India.

Addressing the gathering, Bora credited Bangladesh’s Gen-Z movement with showing the way to student protesters elsewhere, including India.

“We present you with our red salute. And we know that the Gen-Z movement that we are seeing everywhere in this country first started in Bangladesh. And congratulations to you for showing us the way.”

She added that young people in India were drawing lessons from the Bangladeshi movements to fight for democratic accountability, electoral transparency, and voting rights.

However, Bora’s remarks come against the backdrop of statements made by Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, about the planning and organisation behind the movement that toppled the Hasina government in 2024.

In 2024, Yunus appeared alongside Mahfuz Alam, a key figure associated with the student movement, at an event in the United States following Hasina’s ouster. Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative, Yunus described the movement and the role attributed to Alam in the following words:

“He is known as superhero behind the whole revolution. He denies it repeatedly that it is not me but many others but that’s how he’s recognized that he is the brain behind the whole thing. It is an amazing meticulously designed thing. It’s not like suddenly came and its not like that, very well designed, even the leadership, people dont know who the leaders are, so you can’t catch one and say okay it’s over no its not over.”

Yunus’s remarks characterised the movement as a meticulously designed effort, with a leadership structure that was not readily identifiable and could not be dismantled by targeting a single individual.

Bora’s praise for the Bangladeshi movement as a model for Indian protesters brings renewed attention to the nature of the 2024 uprising, which culminated in Hasina’s removal from power.
