Actor Vijay Issues Advisory Ahead Of TaVeKa’s First State Conference

Vijay TVK First State Conference

In a message to his cadres, popular actor and now part-time politician Vijay addressed members of his Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam, urging them to work tirelessly for the people of Tamil Nadu as the party gears up for its first state conference.

The actor’s letter stated that their ultimate goal is to address the basic needs of Tamil Nadu’s citizens and to bring about change through both political and legal avenues.

“This has been a long-standing ambition burning within me,” Vijay wrote, encouraging his supporters to take pride in the upcoming state conference, which he described as a “festival of political principles” and a “victory policy festival.” He was confident the event would showcase the party’s strength and growing influence in the state’s political landscape.

Vijay urged cadres to approach their political work with speed and caution, stressing the importance of prudence and strategy in their efforts. He further mentioned that committee heads for the conference and in-charges for assembly constituencies would be announced soon, asking his supporters to continue their efforts with determination and inspiration.

As an advice to his cadres, he said that just like how a family respects only a responsible man, a nation will respect only a responsible citizen. Vijay employed wordplay with word ‘kudimagangal’ (Tamil word for citizens but in a literal sense its meaning turns out to be drinkers)  to drive home the point that drinking and making merry at the conference should be avoided.

“Only role models would be hailed by people. Our cadres should strive to be role models is my wish. The people of this country should realize that our cadres function with military discipline from the start of the conference preparations to the conference day participation.”, he said.

Vijay’s move into politics has been closely watched by political observers, and his growing influence, particularly among young voters, has made headlines across the state. The upcoming state conference is expected to be a significant event in solidifying his political presence.

Unveiling The Bangladesh Power Shift: The Role Of US-Backed Networks In Toppling Sheikh Hasina

Report Says US Backed Regime Change Initiative In Bangladesh using International Republican Institute

The US government-linked International Republican Institute formed an army of student protesters, NGOs, LGBTQ influencers & rappers to rally in Bangladesh and remove Sheikh Hasina. Was it all because she denied the US a military base? Let’s explore.

The Gray Zone has seen leaked files that indicate the International Republican Institute cooperated with the US govt to create a “power shift” in Bangladesh – culminating in the toppling of elected PM Sheikh Hasina.

Footage showed students storming the presidential palace and celebrating the end of what Western media had dubbed as fascism in Dhaka. Then came the interim PM.

Muhammad Yunus, a Clinton Global Initiative fellow and Nobel Prize winner with a sketchy past in micro-lending, was now the leader. The US laughed off allegations it had any hand in his appointment or Sheikh Hasina’s ousting.

And then, last week, Yunus stood on stage next to Bill Clinton and revealed to the world the colour revolution was a “meticulously designed” plan that took a long time.

The IRI, as the Gray Zone reveals, has been operating in Bangladesh since the early 2000s.

In documents marked “confidential and/or privileged,” it’s claimed the IRI spent millions of dollars coaching opposition parties and creating a regime-change network of “urban youth” influencers – giving them the online tools.

The outlet stresses that the 🇺🇸 GOP-run subsidiary has fueled regime change operations globally since its creation by CIA Director William Casey some four decades ago.

Flashback to 2018, when Dhaka’s streets were mobbed by thousands demanding stricter road safety laws. The govt caved.

It provided a key training ground, it’s claimed, with student demonstrations swelling after the taste of victory. While trivial at the time, months and years later it stoked riots and a violent clampdown by police.

Analysts have linked the protests to online bot armies and social media movements – exactly what IRI stresses is important for a power shift.

In 2019, the IRI reportedly identified 170 activists in a report given to the US State Dept. It also mentions Hasina’s “lopsided” victory and that its campaign was being ramped up, partly due to the Opposition BNP failing to mobilise support.

A separate internal report titled, “Social Media, Protest, and Reform in Bangladesh’s Digital Era” gave an idea of what was to come, the Gray Zone writes: “Moving forward, IRI intends to expand its work with college students across the country.”

IRI used transgender events, music festivals, TV, and much more.

The ground army and the message had been created. All that was left was to storm the castle.

“Those Who Say They’ll Eradicate Sanatana Dharma Will Get Eradicated”: Andhra Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan’s Stern Msg To Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin

Complaint Filed Against "We Dravidians" For Abusing AP Dy CM Pawan Kalyan After he warned Udhayanidhi

In a thunderous speech, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and head of Jana Sena Party Pawan Kalyan issued a veiled but stern warning to DMK scion and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, saying that those who think of eradicating Sanatana Dharma will get eradicated.

Addressing a gathering at Tirupati after launching the Varahi Declaration, Pawan Kalyan said in Tamil, “A young leader from the neighbouring state had said Sanatana Dharma is like a virus which needs to be eradicated. Many people have said so. You’re not the first one or the last. Many more are going to come. People like you have come and gone. Nothing will happen to Sanatana Dharma. I’m telling you. I’m saying this after taking the blessings of Perumal. You can’t do anything. I don’t know how to say this Telugu poem in Tamil, but if possible, you (Udhayanidhi Stalin) try translating in Tamil and listen.” and went on to read a poem in Telugu that effectively conveys that those who seek to destroy Sanatana Dharma will get destroyed.

People who stand for Sanatana Dharma in Tamil Nadu translate this and tell it to the person who said, “Sanatana Dharma is a virus.” Pawan Kalyan said in an obvious reference to Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Pawan Kalyan also said, “I will respect Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, and all the other Dharmas. But.. I am an unapologetic Sanatani Hindu. Let me be very clear to you guys.

He also targeted Rahul Gandhi for his “naach gaana” comment disparaging the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Prathishtha event.

“The Hon’ble Opposition Leader, Shri Rahul Gandhi, says Ayodhya ceremony when he compares it to ‘naach gaana sabha’, none of the Sanatani Hindus should get hurt. We’ve to be happy about it. And you want the votes of all the Sanatani Hindus to get into power, to be a political leader, to be in the Opposition. And you want all the votes of Sanatani Hindus. But you don’t respect Lord Rama. You might hate Modi ji. You might hate us. But don’t you guys dare to talk about Lord Sri Rama.

India Slams USCIRF Once Again For Peddling ‘Motivated Narrative’

India MEA on USCIRF

On Thursday, India once again urged the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) to desist from its “agenda-driven efforts” by misrepresenting facts and peddling a “motivated narrative” about India.

Responding to media queries regarding the ‘Country Update’ on India in the USCIRF report, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) slammed the US federal government agency that monitors the universal right to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) abroad and makes policy recommendations to the country’s President, Secretary of State and US Congress. “Our views on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom are well known. It is a biased organisation with a political agenda. It continues to misrepresent facts and peddles a motivated narrative about India. We reject this malicious report, which only serves to discredit USCIRF further,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. “We would urge USCIRF to desist from such agenda-driven efforts. The USCIRF would also be well advised to utilise its time more productively to address human rights issues in the United States,” he added.

It is not for the first time that New Delhi has slammed the “biased and inaccurate comments” made on India by the USCIRF. India has repeatedly and “regrettably” stated over the years that USCIRF continues to “misrepresent facts” time and again in its statements and reports “in pursuance of its motivated agenda”. From Covid-19 and Delhi riots to the Citizenship Amendment Bill and religious freedom, the MEA continues to trash USCIRF reports and comments.

“The USCIRF is known as a biased organisation with a political agenda. They continue to publish their propaganda on India masquerading as part of an annual report. We really have no expectation that USCIRF will even seek to understand India’s diverse, pluralistic and democratic ethos. Their efforts to interfere in the largest electoral exercise of the world will never succeed,” Jaiswal had said during a media briefing, a few months ago.

India’s Job Crisis: Balancing Growth with Employment

India's Job Crisis: Balancing Growth with Employment

India’s economic trajectory in recent years has been impressive, defying global headwinds. However, a critical disconnect remains – this growth hasn’t translated into sufficient job creation. During the recent elections, unemployment was a vital issue, highlighting its far-reaching implications for India’s development.

The Numbers Don’t Lie: A Slow Decline with Urgent Concerns

While unemployment rates have marginally decreased since 2004, the pace has been excruciatingly slow, particularly post-2014, with a brief exception in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic caused a temporary spike, but the rate hasn’t surpassed pre-pandemic levels, even with subsequent recovery.

However, the situation for youth (15-24 years) is alarming. Their unemployment rate has more than doubled since 2012, though it has gradually decreased in recent years, remaining stubbornly high at almost 15.47% in 2023.

The Disparity Between Growth and Employment

A report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Institute for Human Development (IHD) revealed a worrying trend. Despite strong economic growth (GVA) between 2012 and 2019, job creation lagged significantly. This suggests a mismatch between skillsets and job demands. This, coupled with issues like discrimination against migrant workers and outdated curriculums, has hindered India’s ability to capitalise on its young demographic.

Government Initiatives: Steps Taken, But More Needed

The government has also implemented various initiatives to address unemployment, including:

  • Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY): Incentivizes companies to create new jobs and restore those lost during the pandemic.
  • Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan (GKRA): Provided temporary employment for migrant workers and others impacted by the pandemic.
  • Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbharNidhi (PM SVANidhi Scheme): Offers collateral-free loans to street vendors to restart businesses.
  • Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY): Provides micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with access to collateral-free loans.
  • Skill development and training programs: Equip young people with relevant skills to enhance their employability.

Union Budget 2024

In 2024, the Union Budget allocated ₹10,000 crore for a New Employment Generation Scheme, which includes a paid internship program to provide one crore youth an opportunity to work at 500 top companies over the next five years.

The government has unveiled comprehensive measures to address unemployment, focusing on empowering India’s youth. Scheme A, designed for first-time employees registered with the EPFO, provides direct benefit transfers equivalent to one month’s salary, capped at Rs 15,000, distributed in three instalments. This initiative aims to significantly boost young professionals starting their careers, as it offers a much-needed financial safety net.

Scheme B focuses on the manufacturing sector, incentivizing employees and employers regarding their EPFO contributions in the first four years of employment. By reducing the financial burden on both parties, the scheme encourages job creation and sustains employment in this vital sector, contributing to overall economic development.

Scheme C focuses on supporting employers not covered by other schemes, emphasizing centre-state collaboration to skill 2 million youth over five years and upgrade 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes to a hub-and-spoke model with an outcome orientation. This approach ensures that a broader range of employers can benefit from government support, fostering a more inclusive and equitable economic environment.

Other Government Schemes

In addition to these targeted schemes, the government has revised the Model Skill Loan Scheme to provide loans of up to Rs 7.5 lakh, guaranteed by a government-promoted fund, benefiting 25,000 students annually. Furthermore, financial support for loans up to Rs 10 lakh for higher education at domestic institutions will be provided to youth not qualifying for other schemes, with e-vouchers offering an annual interest subvention of 3% on the loan amount.

Experts argue they fall short of meeting the growing job demand despite these efforts.

The Way Forward: A Multi-Pronged Approach

To create a sustainable and inclusive job market, India needs to focus on several key areas:

  • Improving Data Collection and Analysis: Inconsistent methodologies by different agencies make it difficult to assess the unemployment situation accurately.
  • Shifting Focus from Services to Manufacturing: While the services sector employs skilled workers, India needs to create more jobs in manufacturing to absorb its large unskilled and semi-skilled workforce.
  • Encouraging Entrepreneurship and Self-Employment: Promoting this can create new jobs and opportunities for individuals to start their businesses.
  • Reforming Education and Training: Educational institutions must align their curriculums with the job market demands and equip students with the skills needed to succeed in the modern economy.
  • Addressing Social and Cultural Barriers: Discrimination against migrant workers and outdated societal perceptions about specific types of jobs can hinder employment opportunities.

Experts’ Recommendations and Ongoing Discussions

A recent webinar by the Policy Consensus Centre, “Unlocking Potential, Unleashing Opportunities: A Policy Dialogue on Employment in India,” brought together various experts to discuss solutions. Key recommendations include:

  • Standardized data collection and analysis for better policymaking.
  • Leveraging technology for efficient government job vacancy announcements.
  • A shift in societal mindset towards MSMEs and self-employment.
  • Revamping the Make in India initiative to create more assembly line jobs in MSMEs.
  • Credit schemes, streamlined regulations, and tax policies for start-up MSMEs to foster entrepreneurship.
  • Eradicating discrimination against migrant workers.
  • Developing practical, technology-focused curriculums in educational institutions.
  • Exploring new service sectors like animation and gaming to create job opportunities.
  • Ensuring women’s safety at workplaces and providing supportive infrastructure.

Conclusion

While India’s economic growth is commendable, addressing unemployment remains a critical challenge. By implementing policies on skill development, sectoral diversification, and entrepreneurship, India can create a more sustainable and inclusive job market for its growing workforce. Bridging the gap between growth and job creation is vital for India’s long-term social and economic prosperity.

Irular Woman Panchayat President Protests Caste Discrimination, Demands Justice in Villupuram, Booked

Irular woman panchayat president Sangeetha protests against caste discrimination by deputy

E Sangeetha, a 40-year-old tribal Irular woman serving as the Panchayat President of Anangur village in Gingee Taluk, protested outside the District Collector’s office in Villupuram on 2 October 2024, demanding action against caste discrimination allegedly perpetrated by the deputy panchayat president, Chitra Gunasekaran, and her husband, Gunasekaran. In addition to her protest, Sangeetha boycotted the Gram Sabha meeting held on Gandhi Jayanti to voice her demand for justice.

Sangeetha had lodged formal complaints with the District Collector on two occasions, in July and August, accusing the deputy president and her husband of discriminatory practices at the panchayat office. She stated, “The couple restrained me from doing my duties, openly called out caste slurs against me when I was in public meetings and inspections. They also refused to provide me access to the digital key (a digital password) to log in the government website to approve fund allotment for several panchayat projects. I’m extremely affected by this, mentally. My woes have fallen on deaf ears since the district collector has not done anything fruitful to stop them from abusing me using my caste.”

Following her August complaint, District Collector C Palani reported an inspection at the panchayat office, where he instructed the deputy to grant Sangeetha access to the digital key. However, he stated that no evidence of discrimination, such as denying her a chair, was found.

Despite these developments, Sangeetha claimed that she continues to face verbal and habitual caste abuse from the duo, who reportedly insist on calling her by her caste name and request her to leave inspection sites for MGNREGA projects.

In response to the ongoing situation, Villupuram MP D Ravikumar remarked that he was aware of the protest and would investigate the matter. However, following her protest outside the District Collectorate on 2 October 2024, she has been booked under multiple sections of the BNS Act.

Sangeetha has accused her deputy, Chitra Gunasekaran, and her husband, Gunasekaran—a local DMK branch secretary—of harassment and obstructing her official duties since she assumed office three years ago. As the first Irular woman to hold this panchayat president position in her village, she has made formal complaints to the District Collector twice, in July and August. Still, she claims no action has been taken against the couple.

In her complaints, Sangeetha stated, “Chitra, my subordinate, along with her husband, has refused to provide me with the digital key needed to approve salaries and allocate funds for basic amenities like laying water pipes and roads. They’ve also used my tribal identity to abuse and demean me in public meetings.” She further alleged that Chitra told her, “You, an Irular woman, do not deserve to sit in the Panchayat President’s chair,” and threatened her with physical harm if she interfered in administrative matters.

Despite multiple appeals to local authorities, Sangeetha reported that she has received no concrete response to her concerns and has even faced threats to her life, resulting in severe mental distress. Although District Collector C. Palani ordered an inquiry in response to her August complaint and directed that Sangeetha be given access to the digital key, he has not contacted her directly or inspected the situation since then.

Sangeetha claims that the verbal and habitual caste abuse from the deputy president and her husband continues, as they reportedly insist on calling her by her caste name and demand she leaves inspection sites for MGNREGA projects.

Following her protest, police have charged Sangeetha under Sections 223, 292, and 126 (2) of the BNS Act, in accordance with a recent directive mandating arrests for agitations held without proper police permission outside Collectorate campuses. Superintendent of Police Deepak Siwach stated, “We are looking into the issue and will verify the facts.”

Congress Connection Of Mastermind Behind ₹5,600 Crore Delhi Drug Bust

Tushar Goyal, the alleged mastermind behind the largest drug bust in Delhi, was a former Congress party worker.

In a significant development, police sources have revealed that Tushar Goyal, the alleged mastermind behind Delhi’s largest-ever drug bust, was a former Congress party worker. Goyal, 40, was apprehended following a major raid in south Delhi, where authorities seized over 500 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, with an estimated street value of more than ₹5,600 crore.

Goyal, who reportedly confessed his role in the drug bust during police interrogation, had previously served as the chairman of the RTI cell for the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee until 2022. His social media profiles list him asRTI Cell Chairman, Delhi Pradesh Congress, and feature photographs with prominent Congress leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress chief Uday Bhan.

In addition to the former Congress member, Himanshu Kumar, Aurangzeb Siddiqui and Bharat Kumar Jain were also arrested in the massive Delhi drug bust case. All suspects are believed to be part of a well-organized drug syndicate operating across multiple states.

According to police sources, the cocaine was smuggled into Delhi by road from various states, while the hydroponic marijuana originated from Phuket, Thailand. The accused allegedly used cryptocurrency transactions to evade detection by law enforcement agencies.

Investigators are also looking into the role of a prominent Dubai-based businessman believed to be behind the cocaine shipment. The kingpin of the drug cartel has been running operations in India from a West Asian country, said a senior Delhi Police official. Authorities suspect the drugs were being supplied to high-profile parties in the national capital.

The case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and police are continuing their investigation to dismantle the broader network linked to the record-setting drug bust. Efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects involved in the cartel.

Rajaji, The OG Of Prohibition & Social Justice

Rajaji, The OG Of Prohibition & Social Justice

Freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Rajagoplachari’s cutouts at the VCK convention shocked a few Dravidianists. However, it is not out of the blue that Thol. Thirumavalavan, or his strategist Adhav Arjuna, placed his cutout with other leaders like Annadurai. Let’s look at what Rajaji has done for Tamil Nadu, particularly regarding social justice and alcohol prohibition.

Pioneer Of Prohibition

Rajaji implemented alcohol prohibition and continued that policy throughout his life. He held the “umbrella” for alcohol abolition.

In 1929, Rajaji started a unique magazine dedicated solely to promoting the cause of alcohol prohibition and achieved remarkable success, with circulation surpassing 4,000 within just ten months. It was edited and published by Rajaji himself, from his ashram in Tiruchengode. Assisting him in this effort was ‘Kalki’ R. Krishnamurthy, who would later become a well-known writer and journalist.

The magazine’s cover featured striking images illustrating the harmful effects of alcohol. Additionally, Rajagopalachari wrote a song inspired by poet Subramania Bharathi’s ‘Jayaperikai Kottada’. The publication included two compelling stories on alcoholism, along with articles, brief notes, cartoons, and even a Q&A section on the topic.

After the Congress came to power in the provincial elections, it took just two months to pass the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937, which imposed a ban on alcohol. The swift passage of the act in the Assembly surprised many, with newspapers commenting on the opposition’s lack of effectiveness.

Prohibition was initially implemented on a trial basis in Salem, Rajaji’s home district, and gradually expanded to other areas. Strict enforcement measures were introduced, leading to the closure of liquor shops and a ban on liquor advertisements.

To offset the loss in revenue from the alcohol ban, Rajaji introduced taxes targeting the wealthy, shifting government revenue generation from rural areas to urban centers. His government also kept a close watch on bootleggers involved in brewing or smuggling liquor. The police were given broad powers to enforce the ban, and officers with known drinking habits were transferred out of the district. In one instance, police pursued and fatally shot a bootlegger who crossed into Mysore, sparking a lengthy legal battle. Rajaji staunchly defended the Madras police throughout the case.

Governor Lord Erskine reported to the King that prohibition had been more successful than anticipated, and the King’s secretary responded, noting the King’s particular interest in the policy and praising Rajaji’s strong character. However, the onset of World War II and India’s forced participation without consent led the Congress party to resign from provincial governments in protest. Despite this, prohibition remained in place until 1971, when the DMK government under Karunanidhi lifted the ban.

True Champion Of Social Justice

Under Rajaji’s governance, it was Vaidyanatha Iyer, Rajaji’s “Commander-in-Chief”, who led the temple entry movement under his direction. In September 1939, he successfully had the bill for temple entry passed in the Legislative Assembly, which then became law. Following the landmark entry into the Meenakshi Amman Temple, other temples, including Azhagar, Thiruparankuntram, Thiruvarangam, Pazhani, and Srivilliputhoor, also allowed temple entry by December 1939. Rajaji strongly supported Iyer in ensuring the success of the temple entry movement.

In 1937, Rajaji who became the Chief Minister of Madras Province for the first time, made VI Muniyasamipillai, who belonged to the Scheduled Community, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Also, Mr. Sivashanmukampillai, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community, became in charge of Madras as the Mayor in 1938. Rajaji made the same Sivashanmukampillai the first speaker of Tamil Nadu after independence.

Rajaji made Rukmini Lakshmipathi as the first woman to be elected to the Madras Legislature and the first to serve as a minister in the Madras Presidency. She was the first woman member of the Legislative Assembly and the woman who was convicted by the British government in the Salt Satyagraha.

It was Rajaji who ended the zamindari system which helped the landless peasants to get agricultural land.

Fighting For “Madras”

It was Rajaji who brought Madras to Tamil Nadu instead of it being a part of Andhra Pradesh! Despite the Bifurcation Committee’s decision to give Madras to Andhra Pradesh, Rajaji was adamant that Andhra would not have Madras for a single day, and he would not allow that!
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi members seem to have risen beyond petty grudges and honoured Rajaji.
