CM Vijayan Is The Biggest Don: Top Kerala BJP Leader Sobha Surendran

CM Vijayan Is The Biggest Don: Top Kerala BJP Leader Sobha Surendran

In a hard-hitting opening-up before the media, top Kerala BJP leader Sobha Surendran on Saturday described Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the biggest don in the state. “CM Vijayan is clear that he doesn’t wish to have my presence in Kerala. He (Vijayan) is deeply upset with me because I have been tracking all his things including his daughter Veena Vijayan and hence, he is against me. So is senior CPI-M leader E. P. Jayarajan who met me to discuss his joining the BJP,” said Sobha.

Sobha was going hammer and tongs against a section of the media and went to the extent of naming who they were as they were coming out with fabricated stories against her in the now controversial 2021 Kodakara hawala case, allegedly involving BJP leaders, that re-surfaced early this week. Sobha was fuming and asserted that she has nothing to do with former BJP Thrissur district office Secretary Tirur Satheesan who, the other day, revealed that the cash stolen from Kodakara was part of hawala money received by state BJP leaders for election expenditure.

“I have nothing to do with that and I am being targeted and the media is portraying that it’s me who is behind Tirur Satheesan.. I am not going to take this and I will retaliate strongly as I have nothing to do in this,” said an angry Sobha. The CPI-M is up in arms and has demanded a further investigation into it. Incidentally, the SIT formed for it has filed a charge sheet against 23 people, who are all presently out on bail.

She also pointed out that the probe by the national agencies in the now infamous Karuvanoor Cooperative Bank scam (in which few Thrissur top CPI-M leaders are involved) is not over and very soon more things will happen in that. Sobha, at the April 26 Lok Sabha polls, though she finished third, had made a strong fight at the Alappuzha Lok Sabha seat and is known for her fiery speeches.

Left Ecosystem In Frenzy Mode After PM Modi Exposed Cong’s Fake Promises: BJP MP

Left Ecosystem In Frenzy Mode After PM Modi Exposed Cong’s Fake Promises: BJP MP

BJP National Yuva Morcha President and BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Saturday criticised the Congress, saying that the entire left ecosystem has gone into a ‘frenzy mode’ after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi exposed the Congress government’s fake promises.

“To fund freebies, Congress is siphoning money off the common man’s pocket. Claiming to give benefits, but looting the same people is a strategy that is bound to fail. What PM Modi has highlighted is how aware citizens are and making informed choices like they made in Haryana,” he said. He added that the Congress leaders cannot “suppress” PM Modi’s message with their “shrill rhetoric” and “name-calling”. “PM Modi’s message to be vigilant from the Congress fake promises reflect the ground reality in Karnataka,” he said. “The whole Left ecosystem, starting with the Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge to Congress Chief Ministers across states, seem to have gotten into a frenzy and have become desperate to hide the truth that PM Modi exposed in his posts on fake promises by the Congress,” he stated.

He added that what PM Modi has highlighted is a living reality in Karnataka as the unsustainable freebie model has wreaked havoc on the state’s developmental journey in the last 1.5 years which has severely crippled the pace of progress. He said that development has taken a backfoot in the state because of the unsustainable guarantees that the Congress party is trying to keep alive. “To accommodate freebies – although there is a budgetary provision made, the Chief Minister has achieved the provision by reducing the budget in other key sectors,” he said.

He claimed that the agricultural budget has been reduced by 38 per cent; the irrigation budget – crucial for many North Karnataka districts and in South Karnataka too – has been reduced by 17 per cent; the Capital Expenditure is down by 13 per cent; for Education, 11 per cent budget is allocated while State Average is 14.7 per cent. He added that the state government’s budget has allocated merely 0.6 per cent towards Urban Development, against other states average of 3.5 per cent. “Inadequate funds have pushed Bengaluru infra from bad to worse. About Rs 13,000 crore of SC/ST funds have been redirected to fund the freebies,” Surya said.

He claimed that every MLA across all party lines is seen complaining about the lack of funds for local area development. “The government stopped Rs 4000 that was earlier added as State Contribution to PM Kisan Fund, directly impacting over 58 Lakh farmers,” he further claimed. He also claimed that while government hospitals do not have medicines at their pharmacies due to lack of funds, legacy institutions like KSRTC are being pushed to 100s of crores of losses. “All this is done to keep the evidently unsustainable guarantees alive,” he alleged.

Doesn’t Understand Difference Between Temple Trust And Waqf Board: BJP Mocks Owaisi

Doesn't Understand Difference Between Temple Trust And Waqf Board: BJP Mocks Owaisi

BJP national spokesperson RP Singh on Saturday rebuked All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi for raising objections on ‘only Hindu-staff policy’ at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. He said that the AIMIM chief was ignorant of the distinction between temple trusts and the Waqf Board, claiming that the latter was attempting to conflate religious faith management with land administration.

Singh’s comments came after Owaisi raised objections to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ (TTD) recently unveiled ‘only Hindu staff policy’, which has restricted temple employment to only Hindu community members. Raising questions over the only-Hindu policy at TTD, Owaisi questioned the Centre on why it was bent on including members of other communities in the Waqf Board.

“The TTD has implemented a ‘Hindu-only staff policy’ in Tirumala, while the Centre proposes non-Muslim representation on Waqf Boards. We are not against TTD’s approach, but if temple trusts limit their members to a single faith, why introduce a provision for non-Muslim members on the Waqf Council?” Owaisi had questioned.

In response, Singh stated, “Owaisi seems to misunderstand the roles of temple trusts and Waqf Boards. The Waqf Board is primarily a land management authority, while temple trusts are places of religious devotion and worship, requiring staff of the same faith. Does anyone expect a Hindu to manage a mosque? That is not practical.” Speaking to IANS, Singh stressed the purpose of the Waqf Board, which he described as “a land management entity with responsibilities to ensure community benefit through educational institutions, facilities, and more.”

He added that expertise from various backgrounds, regardless of religion, could be beneficial, pointing out that “land management is about resources, not just faith.” He also accused Owaisi of politicising the matter, arguing, “Owaisi fails to recognise that mosques are not directly managed by Waqf Boards, unlike temple trusts, which manage religious practices directly. Given recent incidents, like the ‘spitting in food’ controversy, ensuring appropriate trust management has become crucial.”

Unfounded, Absurd And Baseless Insinuations Part Of Canada’s Strategy To Discredit India: MEA

Unfounded, Absurd And Baseless Insinuations Part Of Canada's Strategy To Discredit India: MEA

Terming it as “absurd and baseless”, India on Saturday trashed allegations made by the Justin Trudeau-led government that linked Union Home Minister Amit Shah – the “latest Canadian target” – to the targeting of pro-Khalistan activists in Canada, emphasising that the “unfounded insinuations” are part of Ottawa’s “conscious strategy” to discredit India.

“We had summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission yesterday. A diplomatic note was handed over in reference to the proceedings of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa on October 29th, 2024. It was conveyed in the note that the Government of India protests in the strongest terms to the absurd and baseless references made to the Union Home Minister of India before the Committee by Deputy Minister David Morrison,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a weekly media briefing.

“In fact, the revelation that high Canadian officials deliberately leak unfounded insinuations to the international media as part of a conscious strategy to discredit India and influence other nations only confirms the view the Government of India has long held about the current Canadian government’s political agenda and behavioral pattern. Such irresponsible actions will have serious consequences for bilateral ties,” added Jaiswal. Earlier this week, while appearing before the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU), Trudeau’s National Security and Intelligence Advisor Nathalie Drouin and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Morrison admitted that they had leaked the so-called ‘intelligence” on India, including the details about the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year, to the American media, much before it was revealed at home.

“The leak from Nathalie Drouin and David Morrison, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, accused India’s powerful Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah of directing the violent operations from New Delhi,” reported Canada’s leading daily The Globe and Mail on October 29. The leaks had once again exposed the Trudeau government’s continued vindictive campaign against India. Last month, Trudeau, who has been harping on having “credible evidence” on India’s involvement in the killing of Nijjar, admitted that Ottawa had only some intelligence inputs and no hard proof before publicly accusing India. Testifying before the country’s foreign interference inquiry, Trudeau admitted that New Delhi had demanded sharing of proofs – something that India continues to insist till date – after the allegations.

“At that point, it was primarily intelligence, not hard evidentiary proof,” Trudeau admitted in an on-camera hearing before the committee. New Delhi has been asserting for a long time that the Trudeau government has “consciously provided” space to violent extremists and terrorists to harass, threaten and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada.

India had announced the withdrawal of its High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and other diplomats from Canada on October 14, after the Trudeau government – in what was termed as “preposterous imputations” by New Delhi – suggested that the Indian diplomats are ‘persons of interest’ in a matter related to an investigation in the country. India had repeatedly underlined that, in an atmosphere of extremism and violence, it had no faith in the current Canadian Government’s commitment to ensure their security.

Chennai Metro Rail Faces 40% Worker Shortage As Labourers From North Indian States Find Infra Jobs Closer To Home

Chennai Metro Rail Faces 40% Worker Shortage As Labourers From North Indian States Find Infra Jobs Closer To Home

The Chennai Metro Rail is facing a significant worker shortage of nearly 40% at its construction sites for the ongoing ₹63,246-crore Phase II project.

This ambitious project aims to create a 118.9-km network across three corridors: Madhavaram to SIPCOT (Corridor 3), Light House to Poonamallee (Corridor 4), and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (Corridor 5). Over the past couple of years, thousands of workers from states like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh have been employed in Chennai.

According to officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the shortage began in April when many workers returned to their hometowns to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “We anticipated they would return by late May or early June, but many have yet to come back. We’ve urged contractors to recruit new workers and bring them to the city, but progress has been limited,” one official explained.

Initially, some contractors arranged for workers to fly in, while others traveled by train. However, these efforts have not been enough to close the gap. “We’re facing about a 40% shortfall in workers,” the official added.

Officials noted that the worker numbers are particularly low along the elevated sections of Corridor 5. “Currently, our priority is to open the Poonamallee-Porur segment of Corridor 4 next year, so we’ve mobilized as many workers as possible for this area, and there are no major issues there,” another official stated.

However, sources indicated that even this prioritized segment is experiencing a worker shortage, making it challenging to complete the work by the projected deadline. Elevated corridors typically require more labour than underground sections.

“The workers who previously worked here are now finding jobs in Metro Rail and other infrastructure projects in northern and central India, where they have the flexibility to commute between work and home,” one official noted.

TVK Chief Vijay To Attend Ambedkar Book Launch Hosted By VCK Leader Thirumavalavan

TVK Chief Vijay To Attend Ambedkar Book Launch Hosted By VCK Leader Thirumavalavan

After the inaugural conference of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on 27 October 2024, where chief Vijay announced his willingness to share power with alliance partners who support him, tensions within the DMK alliance intensified, particularly with Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thirumavalavan, who had previously raised similar concerns to the DMK.

On 6 December 2024, a pivotal event is set to unfold in Tamil Nadu’s political scene as TVK chief Vijay is scheduled to appear at the launch of a book on Ambedkar, presented by Thirumavalavan. The book’s author, Aadhav Arjuna, recently generated buzz with his slogan “Share in governance, share in power,” prompting discussions within the DMK alliance. Despite expectations of dissent, Thirumavalavan emphasized the unity of the coalition.

This backdrop sets the stage for Vijay’s earlier conference in Vikravandi, which drew a massive crowd. During his keynote address, Vijay declared that any parties aligning with TVK in elections would partake in ruling power. This statement, amid significant pressure, led to speculation that Aadhav had influenced him.

In response, Tamil Nadu intelligence agencies closely monitored Vijay, Thirumavalavan, and Aadhav, assigning special officers to gather intelligence. A key revelation was that Thirumavalavan and Vijay would share a platform at the Ambedkar book launch, creating political ripples.

Intelligence reports indicated that Aadhav was instrumental in the “One Man Group” (OMG), which developed strategies for the DMK during the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 assembly elections. After discovering that the ADMK had invited strategist Prashant Kishor, Aadhav went to Delhi to persuade Kishor to collaborate with the DMK.

However, conflicts arose between Aadhav and the DMK leadership after the election victory, leading to Aadhav’s discontent and subsequent shift to Thirumavalavan’s party, where he assumed the role of deputy general secretary.

Tensions persisted when Thirumavalavan aimed to nominate Aadhav for the Kallakurichi constituency in the Lok Sabha elections, a request the DMK rejected. This series of frustrations galvanized their demand for a share in governance, particularly in light of Thirumavalavan’s involvement, signalling a strategic pivot against the DMK.

Aadhav, originally from Trichy and a former basketball player, ventured into politics after marrying Daisy, the daughter of a lottery businessman. He began his political career with OMG and later founded a microfinance company and a survey organization. After stepping away from his business commitments, he fully dedicated himself to politics, rising within Thirumavalavan’s party.

Aadhav is the President of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association and General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Olympic Association, and he recently became the President of the Basketball Federation of India. As Aadhav continues to shape political strategies, notable developments in Tamil Nadu politics are anticipated following the 6 December event.

Thirumavalavan’s recent meeting with Vijay on a prominent stage marks a notable shift, especially given his previous criticisms of the actor-turned-politician. In an exclusive interview with a private television channel, Thirumavalavan expressed skepticism about Vijay’s intentions. He pointed out that while some may interpret Vijay’s power-sharing announcement as a gesture towards the VCK, it is too early for the party to base any decisions on it. He characterized the move as more of a marketing tactic designed to capture attention, akin to seasonal retail promotions.

“This feels more like a strategic maneuver than a sincere political commitment,” Thirumavalavan remarked. “It’s similar to announcing a festive sale to draw customers into a store. Vijay’s declaration seems aimed at gaining visibility rather than establishing a credible promise of power-sharing.”

Thirumavalavan further noted that this announcement could lead to confusion within existing alliances, particularly within the DMK-led coalition, raising questions about Vijay’s long-term plans.

He also cast doubt on Vijay’s electoral viability, arguing that in Tamil Nadu, a candidate needs to secure at least 30-35% of the vote share to gain power. Thirumavalavan challenged whether Vijay could independently achieve that threshold, suggesting that mere announcements are insufficient to alter the electoral dynamics in his favor.

“This Is Koomuttai! Either Stand On This Side Or That Side, If You Stand In Middle You’ll Get Runover By Lorry” NTK Head Seeman’s Hilarious Roast Of TVK Vijay’s Ideology Of Dravidam + Tamil Nationalism

seeman ntk tvk vijay

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman, who previously expressed strong support for Kollywood actor turned politician Vijay and referred to him as his brother until past month, has now taken a sharp turn, calling the TVK chief’s political stance a “Koomuttai”. Speaking on the day of Tamil Nadu formation, he criticized Vijay’s political stance, implying that Vijay is straddling two ideologies, Tamil nationalism and Dravidianism, which are contradictory to each other. Seeman stated, “Either stand on that side or this side; standing in the middle risks you getting run over, What bro? It is very wrong bro.”

The recent tension between Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman and Kollywood actor-turned-politician Vijay stems from Vijay’s speech at his party’s inaugural State conference. During his address on 27 October 2024, Vijay proposed an ideology that merges Dravidam with Tamil nationalism. This move was interpreted as an attempt to appeal to both sides, but it did not sit well with Seeman.

Seeman, who plays his cards as a staunch critic of the DMK and Dravidian ideology, has firmly embraced Tamil nationalism as his core principle. He has publicly accused the DMK of undermining Tamil identity, culture, and the interests of the Tamil people, questioning how the two ideologies could coexist.

In a thinly veiled critique of Vijay, Seeman stated, “Fundamentally wrong. It’s not policy, it’s nonsense (Koomuttai)  that too a rotten eggs. Look here, either stand on that side or this side, If you stand in the middle, you’ll get run over by a truck and die.”

He then mocked Vijay, urging him to take a clear stance, by either standing on the side of freedom fighters like Subhas Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh or colonial figures like Lord Mountbatten. He added that claiming neutrality is disheartening, stating, “What bro? It’s wrong bro.”

He emphasized his awareness of his political rivals before entering the field, asserting, “I don’t just sit in air-conditioned rooms contemplating politics.” He clarified that his statements come from a place of deep passion, noting, “When there’s fire in the heart, words become sparks. Our words reflect the suffering our people have endured for generations.”

Seeman declared that even when our parents oppose our ideology, they become our enemies, indirectly taking a jab at TVK chief Vijay. He emphasized that there can be no compromise in the pursuit of our beliefs, regardless of brotherly ties.

Seeman declared that once he comes to power, he will drive Dravidists away. He mocked the DMK and TVK chief Vijay, saying, “They don’t understand Dravidam, and he doesn’t know what is Tamil nationalism. What a shame! Either stand in the river or in the mud, but standing in both? What is this?”

Seeman emphasized that there is no “brotherly” bond when it comes to ideology, stating that anyone opposing NTK’s principles is an adversary—implying that Vijay stands as an ideological opponent.

Tom Cruise In Early Negotiation For The Sequel To ‘Days Of Thunder’

Tom Cruise In Early Negotiation For The Sequel To ‘Days Of Thunder’

Hollywood star Tom Cruise, who was last seen in ‘Mission: Impossible 7’, is currently in early stage of talks with Paramount for a sequel to ‘Days of Thunder’. ‘Days of Thunder’ was a 1990 NASCAR drama which was directed by the late Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (with his late producing partner Don Simpson), reports ‘Variety’.

No other creatives are in place, and Tom’s full docket, promoting ‘Mission: Impossible 8’, filming Alejandro G. Inarritu’s next movie, and developing another ‘Top Gun’ movie, mean this project is far off from starting its ignition.

As per ‘Variety’, Bruckheimer, who also produced ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, has also been involved in discussions about returning for the project, as per the sources.

The first film follows the exploits of the impeccably named Cole Trickle, a scrappy race car driver recruited to a new NASCAR team led by a retired racing legend played by Robert Duvall. Cruise’s connection to the film is considerable: He got his first and, to date, only official writing credit on the film for developing the story with screenwriter Robert Towne.

And it’s where he met Nicole Kidman, to whom he was married for 11 years, and who made her Hollywood debut playing a neurosurgeon who falls in love with Cole. The movie opened to modest box office (for Cruise), earning $157.9 million globally in unadjusted grosses, and a tepid reception among critics, but has since risen in esteem. Racing films have also become in vogue of late, from 2019’s ‘Ford v Ferrari’ to next year’s Brad Pitt vehicle ‘F1’, from director Joseph Kosinski, who is known for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

Facebook India’s Net Profit Up 43% To ₹505 Crore In FY24

Facebook India’s Net Profit Up 43% To ₹505 Crore In FY24

Facebook India saw its profit surge by 43 per cent in the last fiscal (FY24), riding on digital advertising and support services offered to its parent company Meta in the US.

The company’s India unit saw its net profit reach ₹505 crore last fiscal. Its revenue from operations increase by 9.3 per cent to ₹3,034.8 crore in FY24, up from ₹2,775.7 crore in FY23, as per data from the Registrar of Companies (RoC).

Facebook India’s overall expenses grew 2.4 per cent to ₹2,349.6 crore and employee benefit expenses increased to ₹476.1 crore, reflecting a 7.8 per cent increase from FY23. The “other expenses” category remained stable at ₹1435.3 crore.

As per the data, depreciation and amortisation costs dropped by 10.8 per cent to ₹271.3 crore, from ₹304.2 crore in FY23. On the other hand, Facebook India’s parent company reported weaker-than-expected user numbers and warned of a significant acceleration in its infrastructure expenses in 2025.

In its third-quarter earnings report, Meta reported $40.59 billion in revenue. Sales in the third quarter jumped 19 per cent year-on-year while net income grew 35 per cent to $15.7 billion from $11.6 billion a year earlier. The social media giant reported 3.29 billion daily active people for the third quarter — up 5 per cent year-on-year.

Meta also raised capital expenditures guidance for the 2024 fiscal year to between $38 billion and $40 billion, up from $37 billion to $40 billion previously. Additionally, the company said it expects capital expenditures to continue to grow significantly in 2025 due to an acceleration in infrastructure expenses.

“We had a good quarter driven by AI progress across our apps and business,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Meta founder and CEO. “We also have strong momentum with Meta AI, Llama adoption, and AI-powered glasses.”

“Our AI investments continue to require serious infrastructure, and I expect to continue investing significantly there, too,” Zuckerberg added.
