Islamists Protest To Offer Namaz At Dargah Located In Madurai’s Thiruparankundram Hill Famous For Murugan Temple, Scuffle Breaks Out Between Police And Protestors

Islamist Protesters Clash With Police Over Prayer Rights At Thiruparankundram Hill Madurai, Detained

A group of Muslim protesters assembled in large numbers at Thiruparankundram Hills in Madurai, demanding permission to offer prayers at the uphill mosque. When the police denied their request, tensions escalated, resulting in a brief commotion and a scuffle between the protesters and law enforcement. Eventually, the protesters were detained by the police.

This current protests stemmed from a recent incident in which police refused to permit a Muslim family to perform a sacrificial ritual at the hilltop dargah in Thiruparankundram, Madurai district. The authorities intervened and detained several individuals who attempted to bring goats and roosters to the hill for the ritual sacrifice.

The incident involved Syed Abu Dahir, a 53-year-old man from Malaiyadipatti in Rajapalayam, who arrived at the dargah with his family, a goat, and two roosters to perform the traditional sacrifice. Thiruparankundram is a revered site for Hindus, known for its famous Murugan Temple, which is regarded as the first of Lord Muruga’s six holy abodes (Arupadai Veedu). The hill holds immense spiritual significance for millions of Hindu devotees.

Police stopped the family at the base of the hill, explaining that taking livestock uphill was prohibited. In response, over 20 local Muslims from Thiruparankundram gathered at the hill’s steps to protest in support of the family.

Assistant Commissioners of Police Gurusamy, Ganesan, and Seetharaman, along with RTO Kannan, arrived to mediate the situation. The protesters asserted that animal sacrifice, cooking, and consumption at the dargah had been part of a long-standing tradition. The RTO suggested they submit a formal petition, promising to forward it to the government for a decision. However, the protesters rejected this solution and continued their demonstration.

Ultimately, the police arrested 10 individuals, including those who had brought the animals. They were later released, but the incident sparked tensions in the area. Some accused the group of attempting to create religious discord in Thiruparankundram, a place of profound spiritual importance for Hindus, potentially endangering the harmony and coexistence in the region.

The Thiruparankundram Temple – Sikandar Dargah Dispute

Thirupparankundram is revered as one of the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan. In addition to the Subramanya Swamy temple, the hill features rock-cut temples from the Pandya period, along with ancient inscriptions and paintings.

During the Madurai Sultanate’s reign, many temples were deprived of regular rituals until Kumara Kampanna overthrew the Sultanate. Historical accounts suggest that a dargah was established on the hill during this time. Muslims believe the dargah marks the burial site of Sikandar Zulqarnain, who they claim preached Islam in the region. They refer to the hill as “Sikkandar Hill.”

Hindu groups allege that under the guise of celebrating festivals, encroachments by Muslims on parts of the hill have increased over time. They claim the HR&CE Department, which manages the Subramanya Swamy temple, engages in appeasement politics and has failed to address these concerns.

Hindu activists have also sought to revive the tradition of lighting the Karthigai deepam at a stupa near the Kasi Viswanathar Temple, a practice disrupted during World War II. However, the Tamil Nadu government has denied permissions, citing potential law and order issues. Activists allege that this reluctance has allowed encroachments to expand.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the deepam can be lit as long as it is at least 15 meters away from the dargah. However, lighting it at an alternative spot, as mandated by the government, allegedly violates Agama rules.

In recent years, Hindu groups have pushed for the restoration of their traditions, but their efforts have often faced resistance from authorities. Meanwhile, instances of Namaz being offered on the pathway to the Kasi Viswanathar Temple and other actions have heightened tensions in the region.

The Madras High Court had recently refused to prohibit the offering of Namaz on the pathway leading to the Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Thirupparankundram, Madurai District.

Flogging The “EVM” Dead Horse Repeatedly: ‘The Deshbhakt’ Akash Banerjee’s Needs To Face Legal Consequences For Anti-EVM Propaganda

Why 'The Deshbhakt' Akash Banerjee's EVM Conspiracy Needs Legal Consequences

By now, Akash Banerjee’s penchant for sensationalism has become a predictable circus act. In his recent diatribe, he revived the tired trope of EVM hacking—an accusation as baseless as it is tiresome. Banerjee’s latest video is a cacophony of conspiracy theories, handpicked anecdotes, and selective outrage. If he’s so sure about EVMs being compromised, maybe it’s time the Election Commission of India (ECI) invited him to walk the talk.

Maybe he should try hacking an EVM, and when he inevitably fails, the EC should file a defamation or criminal case for spreading malicious lies with the intent to sow chaos.

The Same Old Song And Dance

Banerjee harps on alleged voter roll manipulations and strategic deletions, weaving a narrative of institutional corruption and “hacked” democracy. While these claims may sound juicy to his audience, they crumble under scrutiny. The voter roll revision process is well-documented and transparent, involving field verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The ECI has repeatedly stated that no voter’s name can be removed without due process.

But facts don’t matter when you’re chasing clicks, do they? Banerjee cherry-picks isolated incidents, slaps on unverified claims, and wraps it all in the guise of investigative journalism.

EVM Myths: A Zombie That Is Brought Back To Life Repeatedly By The Likes Of Akash Banerjee

The paranoia around Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) is a classic example of flogging a dead horse. Despite years of baseless allegations, no political party—including Congress—has ever produced an iota of evidence to prove EVM manipulation. The Supreme Court, too, has repeatedly upheld the integrity of EVMs, and the introduction of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) adds an additional layer of transparency.

Still, Banerjee insists on whipping up hysteria, claiming that EVMs are “hacked.” Well, Mr. Banerjee, here’s an open challenge: step into the ECI’s offices and show us how it’s done. When you fail—because you will fail—be prepared to face the consequences of spreading lies aimed at undermining the democratic process.

Banerjee’s rhetoric is not just irresponsible; it’s dangerous. By feeding into baseless fears, he risks eroding public trust in India’s electoral system—a system that has been a beacon of democratic integrity in the world’s largest democracy. Worse, his claims embolden fringe elements and contribute to the growing cynicism that undermines voter turnout.

Enough Is Enough

The ECI should take a firm stand against this disinformation campaign. Invite Banerjee to demonstrate his allegations in a controlled environment. When he fails, the law must take its course. Spreading unsubstantiated rumors is not free speech—it’s an attack on the foundation of democracy. And if he’s so keen on dramatics, perhaps he’d benefit from a belt treatment, figuratively speaking, to remind him of the responsibilities that come with having a platform.

Akash Banerjee’s antics have gone unchecked for too long. It’s time to call out his propaganda for what it is: a desperate bid for attention masquerading as activism. Democracy deserves better than this circus act.

Chennai Business Owner Assaulted In Office Over Property Dispute Allegedly By VCK Member

Chennai Construction Owner Assaulted In Office Over Property Dispute Allegedly By VCK Member

A few days ago, a violent altercation occurred at the office of Kamal Haasan, a construction business owner. A resident of Kamakoti Nagar in Pallikaranai, Kamal Haasan is said to have constructed a building in that locality and has an office in the same building.

Selvakumar, reportedly a member of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), allegedly demanded that he be given two flats from that building. Since Haasan refused, Selvakumar, accompanied by several associates, allegedly attacked Kamal Haasan in his office.

According to Kamal Haasan’s complaint, Selvakumar and his group launched an unprovoked attack on him. Acting on the complaint, the local police have registered a case against Selvakumar and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Haasan also shared a video documenting the incident. He said, I bought this land and built a building here between 2008 and 2010. A person by name Sudarshan bought a flat from me. A person named Selvakumar who was the Secretary of State of VCK put forth an agreement and is living there. I am not sure if he is in that post now. He doesn’t have ownership in his name. Neighbours have complained that he along with his people were drinking alcohol in the terrace. I did not take any action. We were enduring it. Then he put up a shed in the terrace. I tried to stop them from doing that. But despite my raising objection, they have put up the shed. When my staff went to take pictures of the shed, they assaulted my staff and around 6-7 people who were drinking there, they came down and assaulted me, broke my teeth, and damaged my office.”

As reported by Tamil Janam, Selvakumar reportedly has filed a counter-complaint, alleging that Kamal Haasan and his wife insulted him by making remarks about his caste, leading to the confrontation.

Additionally, CCTV footage of the altercation has been released, providing visual evidence that is expected to play a crucial role in the investigation.

The police are currently examining the footage and statements from both parties to determine the sequence of events and establish accountability. Further developments are awaited as the investigation progresses.

Alleged Fact-Checker YouTurn Peddles Fake Propaganda About TN Getting 29 Paise For ₹1 Contributed

On 2 January 2025, the DMK’s mouthpiece, Youturn, claimed that Tamil Nadu receives only 29 paise for every rupee it contributes in taxes to the central government. Let’s fact-check this claim to unpack the issue.

What Is YouTurn, The “Fact Checker”, Claiming?

YouTurn alleged that Tamil Nadu receives only 29 paise for every rupee it contributes in taxes to the central government. They criticized the central government for retaining a significant portion of tax revenues through cess and surcharge, leaving states with less than their due share. They also highlighted disparities in revenue returns, pointing out that states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh receive far more in comparison.

Tax Contributions and Refunds:

    • Tamil Nadu paid ₹1,07,063 crore in direct taxes and ₹27,361 crore in CGST during the financial year 2022-23, amounting to ₹1,34,424 crore in total contributions.
    • The state allegedly received ₹38,731 crore in return, which accounts for just 29% of the amount paid.
    • They compared this with states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, claiming they receive ₹7.06 and ₹2.73, respectively, for every rupee contributed.

Cess and Surcharge Concerns:

    • They accused the central government of increasing cess and surcharge collections, which are not shared with states.
    • They claimed only 32% of total tax revenue is distributed to states, a figure that falls below the constitutionally mandated 41%.

YouTurn stated that the central government operates with 68% of the tax revenue while giving only 32% to states, suggesting a skewed federal structure.

What’s The Truth?

YouTurn’s claims are misleading, as they only seem to be focusing narrowly on direct tax refunds while ignoring indirect tax revenues and central welfare schemes. It is important to note that Tamil Nadu benefits significantly from GST revenue sharing and centre-funded development projects.

Misrepresentation of Tax Sharing:

    • The calculation focuses solely on direct taxes while ignoring the share of indirect taxes like CGST, SGST, and IGST.
    • Tamil Nadu receives 41% of CGST collections, 100% of SGST collections, and 50% of IGST generated within the state.

Welfare Schemes and Federal Spending:

    • Cess and surcharge collections are used to fund welfare schemes and infrastructure projects nationwide, benefiting Tamil Nadu among other states.
    • Projects like new medical colleges, national highways, health insurance schemes, and farmer welfare programs have been funded significantly in Tamil Nadu.

Revenue Sources in Tamil Nadu:

    • Taxes paid by corporations in Tamil Nadu, such as Hyundai and Nokia, are national-level revenues. These contribute to central government funds, which are then redistributed to all states, including Tamil Nadu.

Federal Fairness:

    • Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, tax revenues have been fairly distributed, with Tamil Nadu receiving its due share alongside several welfare and development projects.

It is noteworthy that tax sharing between the centre and states involves direct and indirect taxes, but the focus on specific categories (e.g., direct taxes) can mislead public perception.

The claim that Tamil Nadu receives only 29 paise for every rupee contributed in taxes oversimplifies a complex federal revenue-sharing system. While the state’s direct tax refunds may be low, the overall benefits, including indirect tax revenues and welfare schemes, paint a broader picture.

‘Follow Laid Down Rules’: BJP TN Chief Annamalai Slams DMK For National Anthem Row, Says Stalin Diverting From Anna University Sexual Assault Case

'Follow Laid Down Rules': BJP TN Chief Annamalai Slams DMK For National Anthem Row, Says Stalin Diverting From Anna University Sexual Assault Case

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi walked out of the state assembly on Monday, 6 January 2025, after the National Anthem was not played following the recitation of the Tamil Thai Vazhthu (state song) at the commencement of the session.

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi left the Assembly without delivering his customary address, citing the absence of the National Anthem after the Tamil Thai Vazhthu as the reason. Despite his insistence, the National Anthem was not played, prompting his departure just three minutes into the session.

In a statement on the official X handle, the Governor’s office wrote, The Constitution of Bharat and the National Anthem were once again insulted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly today. Respecting the National Anthem is among the first Fundamental Duty as enshrined in our Constitution. It is sung in all the state legislatures at the beginning and the end of Governor’s address. Today on arrival of Governor to the House only Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu was sung. Governor respectfully reminded the House of its Constitutional Duty. He fervently appealed to the Hon’ble Chief Minister who is the Leader of the House and the Hon’ble Speaker for singing the National Anthem. However, they cussedly refused. It is a matter of grave concern. Not to be a party to such brazen disrespect to the Constitution and the National Anthem, Governor in deep anguish left the House.”

Not The First Time

The issue of not playing the National Anthem in the Tamil Nadu Assembly has been a recurring point of contention between the Governor and the state government. On multiple occasions, Governor R.N. Ravi has expressed his disappointment over the failure to include the National Anthem at the beginning and end of Assembly sessions.

2024

During the first session of 2024, the Governor noted with regret that his repeated requests to play the anthem were ignored. He refused to read the address prepared by the state government, citing strong disagreements on factual and moral grounds. Instead, he concluded his brief address with wishes for productive discussions and respect for Tamil Nadu and India.

2023

This pattern was also evident during the 2023 winter session, where Raj Bhavan requested changes to the Governor’s speech, including respect for the National Anthem. However, the state government did not respond. The session saw protests from DMK allies, who disrupted the Governor’s speech with slogans and demonstrations, further straining relations.

2022

In 2022, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi revealed that the DMK government refused to play the National Anthem in the Assembly, despite his insistence. Before his first address to the Assembly that year, Governor Ravi was informed that the National Anthem was not part of the session’s proceedings. He explicitly requested that it be played at the beginning and end of the session, alongside the Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The request was communicated to Speaker Appavu and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, and the Governor even sent a formal letter reiterating his appeal. However, the National Anthem was not played, disregarding the Governor’s insistence.

Annamalai Slams DMK

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai accused the ruling DMK government of deliberately disrespecting established protocols and diverting attention from governance failures.

In his statement, Annamalai highlighted the history of the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, noting that the edited version by Manonmaniam Sundaranar Pillai was officially declared the state song in 1970 by former Chief Minister Karunanidhi. However, the practice of reciting it before the Governor’s address in the assembly only began in 1991 under the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. During her tenure, the Tamil Thai Vazhthu was followed by the National Anthem at the commencement and conclusion of the Governor’s address.

Annamalai pointed out that, as per the Government of India’s orders and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act of 1971, the National Anthem must be played at formal state functions involving the Governor. He accused the DMK government of ignoring these established procedures, which he argued was an insult to the Governor and a violation of protocol.

We kindly request TN CM Thiru @mkstalin to focus his energy on delivering justice for the victim who was sexually assaulted at Anna University and not divert the people’s attention. The Honourable Governor of TN, Thiru RN Ravi avl, is only asking the TN Government to follow the laid down rules & procedures, and we do not think it is a tall ask.Annamalai stated.

The BJP leader’s remarks come amidst mounting criticism of the DMK government for its handling of recent controversies, including allegations of misgovernance and lawlessness.

Jammu Railway Division, A Historical Milestone In Integration Of J&K Into National Railway Network, says PM Modi

Jammu Railway Division, A Historical Milestone In Integration Of J&K Into National Railway Network, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the new Jammu Railway Division on Monday, describing it as a historic milestone. “The inauguration of the Jammu railway division is a historic milestone in the integration of J&K into the national railway network as well as in the development of infrastructure and connectivity of J&K,” he said.

The PM added that the inauguration of the Jammu division has finally made the Indian railways a global leader. Calling the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) a marvel of engineering, PM Modi said the country’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge and the iconic arch bridge over the Chenab River, which is the World’s highest railway bridge, are feats of engineering excellency and efficiency achieved only by the Indian Railways.

He said the USBRL exemplified India’s commitment to ‘Sabha Saath, Sabka Vikas’. “The Jammu Railway Division will not only benefit Jammu and Kashmir, but it will also be advantageous for neighbouring Punjab, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh,” PM Modi said.

He said that to achieve a truly developed Bharat, the development of railways is essential. “It is because of this realisation that during the last decade, the Indian Railways has undergone transformational changes concerning modernisation, facilities and connectivity,” he added.

The PM said the inauguration of the Jammu Railway Division was the living proof of the fact that the country is moving forward. “In the last decade, 30,000 Km of railway track, reaching close to 100 per cent electrification of railways was achieved as against just 35 per cent in 2014. There are new and hitherto unknown opportunities for trade, employment, education and business because of the modernisation of the Indian Railways. Lakhs of youths have been employed by the railways in the last 10 years and initiatives like the Gati Shakti University will further enhance the employability chances,” PM Modi said.

He revealed that more than 50 Vande Bharat trains are presently operational, reducing distances between places and saving passengers precious time. Referring to the metro train facility, which has grown to 21 cities today, he said the time is not very far when bullet trains will operate in the country.

“The launch of rail infrastructure projects in Jammu-Kashmir, Telangana and Odisha will promote tourism and add to socio-economic development in these regions,” PM Modi wrote on his X handle. Those present in Jammu when the Prime Minister was doing the virtual inauguration included Minister of State (PMO) and Lok Sabha member from Udhampur constituency Dr Jitendra Singh, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Singh, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Lok Sabha member from Jammu constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma and senior officers of civil, police and railway administration.

Viral Video Of DMK Min Ponmudi Getting Slipper Fixed By DMK Member Receives Backlash

Viral Video Of DMK Min Ponmudi Getting Slipper Fixed By DMK Member Receives Backlash

In a recent incident at a blood donation camp held in Tindivanam, Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, Minister for Forests and DMK Deputy General Secretary Dr Ponmudi found himself at the centre of controversy. During the event, organized to mark the birthday of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Ponmudi’s sandal fell off while climbing the steps of a private hall. The subsequent actions of a DMK executive, captured on video, have sparked widespread criticism.

Villupuram North District DMK organized the blood donation camp at a private venue. Several DMK leaders, including former minister Gingee Masthan, were present alongside Minister Ponmudi, who inaugurated the event. While climbing the stairs with his hand on Mastan’s shoulder, Ponmudi’s left sandal came loose, causing him to stop.

In the video, a DMK cadre is seen bending down to fix the sandal on Ponmudi’s foot. This act, caught on camera, has now gone viral, with critics questioning why the minister did not adjust the sandal himself. The footage has reignited debates over perceptions of hierarchy and behavior within the DMK party.

The video has drawn sharp criticism, with many questioning Ponmudi’s reluctance to fix his sandal himself and suggesting that the act symbolizes excessive subservience within the party ranks. Social media users have widely shared the video, calling it emblematic of a deeper culture of sycophancy.

Ponmudi’s History of Controversies

This incident is the latest in a string of controversies surrounding Minister Ponmudi, who represents the Thirukovilur constituency and serves as the Minister in charge of Villupuram district.

  • Remarks on Women’s Travel: While speaking at a function recently, DMK Minister K. Ponmudi belittlingly reminded women members in the audience about the ‘free bus scheme for women’ introduced by Stalin government. He had said, “For you only 4000 rupees per card. Did he (Stalin) give or not? You got it right? Open your mouth and say. You got 4000 right? How are you going in bus today? If you want to go from here to Koyambedu or anywhere, you are going in ‘OC’ (free). You are going in ‘OC’ bus.”, he said.
  • Insensitive Comments: During a public meeting, when a woman raised concerns about drinking water, he reportedly dismissed her with the phrase “Eva Eva” (a dismissive term in Tamil), drawing public ire.
  • “Keep Quiet” To Narikaruvar: He tried to silence a distressed resident of cyclone-hit Villupuram in Dwcember 2024 during a video call with Chief Minister Stalin. While reassuring Stalin that conditions were under control, a man interrupted to voice concerns about the lack of homes, shelter, and ration cards. Ponmudi reacted angrily, turning the phone away and telling the man to “keep quiet.” The individual persisted, highlighting the ongoing struggles of his community, but was dismissed.
  • “Shut Up And Sit Down”: In 2023, Ponmudi publicly yelled at a woman who tried to give him a petition during a gathering in Tirukovilur, telling her to “shut up and sit down” in an angry and mocking tone. He then attempted to deflect the situation by asking irrelevant questions about her husband, and when she revealed he had passed away, Ponmudi sarcastically remarked, “He has passed away? So sad,” with a laugh.

Dr. Ponmudi, a senior leader within the DMK, was recently reassigned from the Higher Education Ministry to the Forest Ministry during a cabinet reshuffle. The shift came amidst ongoing controversies tied to his public conduct.

Anna University Sexual Assault Case: “CCTVs Not Working” Said DMK Min, “Phone Was On Airplane Mode” Said Police Commissioner, “CCTV Footage Shows Gnanasekaran Got Call” SIT Confirms

Anna University Sexual Assault Case: "CCTVs Not Working" Said DMK Min, "Phone Was On Airplane Mode" Said Police Commissioner, "CCTV Footage Shows Gnanasekaran Got Call" SIT Confirms

In a new development in the Anna University on-campus sexual harassment case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has reportedly confirmed, through analysis of CCTV footage, that the accused, an alleged DMK functionary Gnanasekaran, had spoken to another individual. This revelation starkly contrasts the statements made by DMK Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiyan and Chennai Corporation Commissioner Arun. In this regard, the SIT has recommended invoking the Goondas Act against the accused, Gnanasekaran, and the act has now been imposed on him.

The Anna University campus sexual harassment case, which has sparked widespread outrage in Tamil Nadu, involves Gnanasekaran, who has already been arrested. In her complaint, the victim revealed that during the assault, the accused spoke to a person on the phone and referred to them as “Sir,” although she didn’t know their identity. With Gnanasekaran being the only individual arrested so far, the person’s identity on the other end of the line remains a critical question. This has led to public demands for answers, with opposition parties asking, “Who is that Sir?” A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been tasked with unravelling the mystery.

During their investigation, the SIT spoke to the victim, who reiterated that Gnanasekaran had made threats during the call, saying, “I will come after threatening her.” Authorities suspect the individual on the phone might be from Tiruppur and have a criminal background, leading them to plan an interrogation of this person in the coming days.

On 4 January 2025, the SIT conducted a raid at Gnanasekaran’s residence, recovering crucial documents and a laptop, which investigators suspect was used to upload pornographic material. During their investigation, the team identified four individuals, including women and students, who appear in some of the videos. Although many pornographic videos were found, only a few have been linked to identifiable victims. Authorities have assured that any victims who come forward will have their identities protected. This new development has added complexity to the case, prompting the SIT to broaden its inquiry into potential further illegal activities.

Notably, this confirmation by the SIT contradicts the statements made by the DMK minister and the Chennai Corporation police. Speaking to the press, DMK Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiyan clarified, “The location where the incident occurred is a thicket not covered by CCTV cameras. What you mentioned—that there are no cameras at the spot where the incident happened is true. However, they are installed along the entry and exit paths, hostel, canteens, and main areas. While about 10% of the cameras might not have been functional, those will also be rectified.”

Chennai City Commissioner Arun stated, “As far as the investigation is concerned, he is the sole accused. There are claims that he addressed someone as ‘Sir’ at the time of the incident, but this is false—it did not happen. Specifically, during the occurrence, he had put his phone on ‘Airplane Mode,’ so this information is incorrect.”

In this context, when news reports surfaced about the SIT confirming the presence of CCTV footage showing the accused speaking to someone, the Tamil Nadu DGP dismissed it as false information. AIADMK Advocate Wing Secretary, I.S. Inbadurai, criticized the DGP’s remarks on social media, stating, “The DGP should not say that the #AnnaUniversityCase information released by the media yesterday is wrong! Even if it is wrong, only the SIT can deny it. Not the DGP! How did the DGP know the details of the investigation when the High Court had ordered that the investigation powers be given to only 3 women officers?”

TNM Compares Kashmir Files, Kerala Story, Sabarmati Report To Hitler’s Propaganda Films, Ignores Nazi Propaganda Filmmaker’s Left-Liberal Links

TNM Compares Kashmir Files, Kerala Story, Sabarmati Report To Hitler's Propaganda Films, Ignores Nazi Propaganda Filmmaker's Left-Liberal Links

In a recent video, The News Minute’s Pooja Prasanna made an interesting comparison between films like The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, The Sabarmati Report, Veer Savarkar, Razakars, etc, to Adolf Hitler’s notorious propaganda film Triumph of the Will and other Nazi propaganda films However, in their eagerness to draw parallels between these two, they failed to mention a critical point that undermines their entire argument.

Triumph of the Will, widely recognized as one of the most influential propaganda films in history, was directed by Leni Riefenstahl, a woman who later became a symbol of artistic brilliance. What Pooja Prasanna and the team at The News Minute conveniently left out is the fact that Riefenstahl, a woman celebrated by many liberals, worked for Nazi propaganda and later even collaborated with The Sunday Times of London, a prestigious liberal newspaper.

In 1972, The New York Times had published an article stating that Riefenstahl will be on assignment for The Sunday Times of London, with which she had earlier freelanced.

The glaring hypocrisy is that, in their condemnation of the political narrative pushed by The Kashmir Files, and other films, TNM ignores the inconvenient truth about Riefenstahl’s post-war collaborations with mainstream left-liberal outlets. This raises a crucial question: why were liberal heroes, such as Riefenstahl, even in the service of Hitler’s regime, using cinema to push the Nazi agenda? It seems odd that a director who glorified one of the most genocidal regimes in modern history would be lauded as a hero by liberals in later years.

By failing to acknowledge this historical contradiction, The News Minute inadvertently exposes its nefarious ways of distorting history to suit a its leftist Dravidianist political narrative. When it comes to condemning political films and their potential for influencing public opinion, they seem happy to forget the left-liberal establishment’s own uncomfortable history with figures who worked for the Nazi regime.

This oversight by News Minute is more than a slip-up; it’s an act of historical whitewashing. While it’s easy to point fingers at contemporary films like The Kashmir Files, it’s crucial to reflect on the uncomfortable alliances that were formed by so-called liberal heroes who worked to advance Nazi propaganda.

Former Idol Wing IG Ponn Manickavel Calls For HR&CE Dissolution, Backs BJP TN Chief Annamalai’s Temple Control Reform

Former Idol Wing IG Ponn Manickavel Calls For HR&CE Dissolution, Backs BJP TN Chief Annamalai's Temple Control Reform

AG Ponn Manickavel, the former IG of the idol wing unit, has called for the dissolution of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department (HR&CE), accusing it of neglecting temples across Tamil Nadu. He praised Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai’s suggestion that the HR&CE relinquish control of the temples, calling it a “great idea” and adding that Annamalai deserves a significant majority for this initiative in upcoming elections.

During his visit to the Bragathambal Temple in Pudukkottai, Ponn Manickavel told reporters that the ruling government is responsible for the deteriorating state of many temples, noting that the Tamil Nadu government has failed to properly maintain and renovate them. He also questioned why Chief Minister Stalin, who is reportedly unwilling to enter temples, is overseeing their management.

Manickavel criticized the HR&CE Department for its inability to properly care for the temples, suggesting that a separate majority should support the idea of removing the department from temple management. He pointed out that many ancient temples in Tamil Nadu are being neglected, with valuable sculptures left unprotected and regular worship not being conducted.

He further highlighted that while the HR&CE Department collects over ₹656 crore annually from temple taxes, it has not ensured the proper upkeep of these temples. In contrast, the Central Government allocates ₹1,308 crore annually to maintain 3,579 historical sites across the country, but even these temples often suffer from poor maintenance. Some temples lack basic amenities like electricity and doors, he added.

Manickavel proposed that the HR&CE Department should be disbanded and that the HR&CE Act should be amended. He suggested the creation of organizations like Mahasabha to take over the management of temples. Noting that there are around 38,000 temples in Tamil Nadu under the Endowments Department, he criticized the Chief Minister for not visiting a single temple. He urged political parties seeking to hold the Chief Minister’s position to push for changes in temple management.

He also expressed his intention to unite Hindu organizations to protect the temples, consult with them, and plan the next steps. Finally, he suggested that the State Archaeological Department should focus on reconstructing temples while preserving their original structures, with the Endowments Department’s role limited to performing the Kumbabhishekam rituals.
