Growing Support For Hamas Terrorism In Communist-Ruled Kerala: Here Are 8 Instances From 2023-2025

Kerala has recently witnessed a series of incidents that have drawn attention to growing support for Hamas terrorism. Under the guise of solidarity for Palestine, a number of public events have emerged that glorify the actions of the terrorist organization, Hamas. The recent display of Hamas terrorist posters at a mosque in Palakkad beg the question if Kerala has increasingly become a focal point for the glorification and support of Hamas terrorism under the guise of various public events. Here are 8 major instances in the state that have raised concerns:

#1 Terrorist Posters Displayed At Mosque Celebration

A few days ago, a mosque in Thrithala, Palakkad, sparked controversy and received severe criticism for displaying images of terrorist leaders of Hamas during its annual Urus celebrations. The pictures of Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar, key figures of the terrorist group Hamas, were prominently featured in the elephant procession, with the images paraded atop three elephants.

The controversial display of these images, including banners with the titlesTharavadis, Thekkebhagamdrew widespread outrage. During the procession, which was attended by over 3,000 people, young children were seen holding posters of Sinwar and Haniyeh, while the crowd cheered on. The incident sparked significant debate on social media, with many questioning the organizers for allowing such displays.

#2 Funeral Prayer For Hamas Terrorist Yahya Sinwar Held

AMayyath Niskaram(funeral prayer) for Yahya Sinwar, the slain leader of Hamas, was organized in Kerala, raising eyebrows and igniting discussions about the complex socio-political landscape of the region. Sinwar was killed four days ago by Israeli forces, following his role as the architect behind the October 7th attack that claimed the lives of 1,200 innocent civilians in Israel. The prayer was organized by the Student’s Islamic Organization (SIO), a youth wing of Jamat-e-Islami, a group known for its Islamic activism. Photos of the event were widely circulated on social media, featuring Samad Kunnakav, assistant secretary of Jamat-e-Islami Kerala, leading the prayer. The gathering not only serves as a remembrance of Sinwar but also raises questions about the ideological affiliations and sentiments that exist within certain segments of Kerala’s population.

The SIO’s Facebook page for Ernakulam publicized the event, depicting Sinwar as avaliant warriorand showcasing images of the gathering, which drew participation from local youths and students.

#3 Khaled Mashal Addressed Pro-Palestine Rally In Malappuram

In October 2023, in Malappuram, former Hamas chief Khaled Mashal addressed attendees via live video. The event was conducted by Solidarity Youth Movement (Kerala Youth Wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind) who invited Khaled Mashal, a founding member of Hamas, to speak at the rally where anti-Hindu slogans were raised. During a roughly seven-minute video address, Mashal urged attendees to provide unconditional support to Hamas and reportedly made anti-Hindu remarks. Visuals from the rally showed banners with slogans such asUproot Bulldozer Hindutva & Apartheid Zionism.Following his speech, the audience responded with applause and chants calling for the uprooting ofZionismthrough intifada.

#4 Muslim Crowd Marches in Wayanad in Support of Hamas Leader

Following the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, as Wayanad was hit by severe rainfall, landslides, and floods, a Muslim crowd organized a tribute march in the midst of the heavy downpour to mourn the death of the Hamas leader. The marchers expressed their support for the Palestinian cause, protesting against Israel and calling for solidarity with the people of Gaza.

#5 Poster In Remembrance Of Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh

In Kozhikode, the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) displayed banners and standees in remembrance of Hamas terrorist leader Ismail Haniyeh a few weeks after his death. The organization used social media platforms to call on Muslim youth in Kerala to unite in support of Hamas and the Palestinian cause.

#6 Jamiatul Ulama Marches in Thiruvananthapuram in Support of Palestine and Hamas

In August 2023, in Thiruvananthapuram, the South Kerala Jamiatul Ulama staged a march to express solidarity with Palestine and Hamas fighters. The march, organized by the Thiruvananthapuram, Neyyattinkara, and Kattakkada Taluk Committees, was a protest against Israel’s actions toward Palestinians, which they claimed violated international norms.

The demonstration, which began near Palayam Raktasakshi Mandapam, saw hundreds of participants, including Pandits, rallying in support of the Palestinian cause. Senior leaders from the Jamiatul Ulama led the procession.

#7 Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Allegedly Holds Pro-Palestine Convention in Kerala Amid Hamas Support

In 2023, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind was going to organize aPalestine Solidarity Conventionin Kerala’s Malappuram district, featuring Palestinian Ambassador Adnan Abu Alhaija and Gaza University VC Dr. Kamlain Shaa’ath, although the latter was said to be unlikely to attend due to the ongoing conflict. The event’s poster condemned Zionist terrorism and coincided with calls from Hamas leader Khalid Mashal for jihad. Despite India’s support for Israel, local political groups like Jamaat-e-Islami and the Indian Union Muslim League have expressed solidarity with Palestine, while other political parties, including the Congress and CPI(M), have not condemned Hamas.

#8 Kerala CPI(M) Rally Expressed Solidarity with Palestine, Criticized BJP’s Stance

On 11 November 2023, the CPI(M) organized a large rally in Kozhikode, Kerala, to express solidarity with Palestine on the death anniversary of Yasser Arafat. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned Israel’s actions against Palestinians and criticized the BJP-led government for aligning with Israel, deviating from India’s traditional stance. He accused the BJP of supporting imperialistic forces and supported the global opposition to Israel’s violence. The event was attended by leaders from various political, social, and cultural organizations, with CPI(M) members emphasizing the importance of supporting Palestine in the face of international injustice.

Coimbatore Horror: 17-Year-Old Girl Gang-Raped By College Students; BJP TN Chief Calls Out CM MK Stalin Over Rising Sexual Assault Cases In Tamil Nadu

A horrifying gang rape incident has rocked the city of Coimbatore, leaving residents in shock and disbelief. A 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by seven students from a private college in the city. All the accused have been arrested by the police in connection with the crime.

According to reports, the victim, a Coimbatore resident, had established an online relationship with the accused through social media. Over time, their virtual connection developed into a friendship. However, the situation took a sinister turn when the accused invited the girl to a room in Kuniyamuthur, where she was gang-raped by the seven college students.

The girl’s grandmother became alarmed when she did not return home at the expected time and filed a missing person’s report at the Ukkadam police station. The police initiated an investigation, which uncovered the chilling details of the crime.

As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that the girl had been subjected to sexual harassment by the college students. The police have filed charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and all seven students involved have been arrested.

The case has sparked outrage throughout Coimbatore, with local residents demanding immediate justice for the victim. The incident has also raised serious concerns about the safety of women and children in the city, underlining the need for greater vigilance and measures to ensure their protection.

In a similar incident near Pollachi in Coimbatore district, two schoolgirls and a schoolboy were subjected to repeated sexual assaults by four minors and an 18-year-old youth. The police arrested three of the minors and the youth on 14 February 2025, seizing mobile phones believed to have recorded the incidents.

According to reports, the victims hailing from a nearby village, were assaulted around five times over recent months. The suspects, known to watch inappropriate content on their phones, allegedly forced the victims into these acts. The victims’ families, from less privileged backgrounds, were initially hesitant to report the incidents. Villagers intervened by contacting ChildLine (1098), leading to a police case under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Three minors were taken into custody and sent to an observation home, while the youth was placed in judicial custody. One minor is still at large, and efforts are ongoing to locate him.

In response to the rising cases of sexual harassment and rape in Tamil Nadu, BJP Chief Annamalai has criticized Chief Minister MK Stalin for failing to take strong action against these heinous crimes. He expressed his shock over the gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl by seven students in Coimbatore, stating, “The news of a 17-year-old girl being gang-raped by 7 students in Coimbatore is shocking. Such gang rape on girls reflects the growing animalistic mentality among the youth, fueled by increasing drug abuse. The Nirbhaya case shook the entire nation, but in Tamil Nadu, women including girls, students, female police officers, and government officials are unsafe every single day. The DMK government has done nothing to curb drug abuse or to ensure the safety of women. If the culprit is from the DMK, and the women are blamed and victimized to protect him, while playing the role of ‘father and brother’ for vain publicity, will Chief Minister @mkstalin tell us who truly benefits from this?”

Kerala: NIA Files Chargesheet Against PFI Member For Harbouring Key Accused In Prof TJ Joseph Hand Chopping Case

tj joseph

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a chargesheet against Shafeer C, a member of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), for allegedly harbouring the key accused in the 2010 Kerala professor hand chopping case. Shafeer has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A).

According to NIA investigations, Shafeer provided shelter, false identity documents, and employment to Savad, the prime assailant in the attack on Professor T.J. Joseph. Savad was chargesheeted in 2011 for his role in the case.

The case dates back to 2010 when Professor Joseph, then head of the Malayalam department at Newman College, Thodupuzha, was attacked by PFI members in Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam district. The assault was reportedly in retaliation for an exam question paper he set, which was perceived as blasphemous. The assailants severed Joseph’s right palm and hurled a bomb to create panic before fleeing.

So far, 19 individuals, all identified as PFI members, have been convicted in the case. The organisation was banned by the government on 28 September 2022, under anti-terror laws for alleged links to global terror groups, including ISIS.

In February 2023, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated in an interview that the PFI promoted radicalism and religious extremism and was attempting to create a breeding ground for terrorism. He asserted that the ban was essential for national security, citing evidence of activities harmful to the country’s unity and integrity.

The NIA continues its probe into the case, with authorities focusing on dismantling any remaining networks linked to the attack.

Farmers Allege Illegal Operation Of Ammonia Plant Despite Licence Cancellation In Ambasamudram

Farmers and local representatives in Idaikal panchayat have accused Malanadu Ammonia Private Limited of continuing operations despite the district administration cancelling its licence. The plant owner, however, has refuted these allegations, claiming that the facility is only being used as a point of sale for receiving and dispatching ammonia gas.

Idaikal panchayat vice president S. Dharmaraj, who recently filed a complaint with the Chief Minister’s Special Cell, alleged that the ammonia plant has been operating covertly at night, posing serious risks to nearby residents and students of a private school just 100 metres away.

Concerns over the plant’s safety have persisted for years. In March 2024, Pappakudi union chairperson S. Poongothai Sasikumar had petitioned the Cheranmahadevi Sub-Collector after multiple reports of gas leaks affecting farm workers and residents. Another leakage in September 2024 allegedly caused health issues among farm workers and school staff, prompting an investigation by the district administration. Following an inspection, the authorities cancelled the plant’s licence due to several violations, including the failure to conduct annual pressure tests on vessels.

Further assessments by the Assistant Director of Industrial Safety and Health found that workers lacked protective gear, medical check-ups were not conducted, and pressure testing had been neglected. A Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) report in October 2024 also cited rust and structural damage in the boiler, leading the Ambasamudram tahsildar to recommend permanent licence cancellation. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court upheld the decision, directing the company to address safety lapses.

Despite this, farmers in Anainthanadarpatti claim the plant remains operational. During an inspection in January 2025, Pappakudi Block Development Officer S. Subbulakshmi reportedly suspected activity at the site. In response to renewed allegations, District Collector Dr. R. Sukumar has directed the district environmental engineer to submit a report on the plant’s status.

However, the plant’s founder, P.N. Sreedeth, has denied that the facility is functioning illegally, asserting that it is only used as a transit point for ammonia cylinders received from Hosur and Kochi. He further stated that the licence is on hold rather than permanently revoked and that all necessary rectifications have been made. According to him, officials have yet to conduct a reinspection or reinstate the licence. He has also announced plans to file a contempt petition over the continued restrictions on operations.

Meanwhile, some local representatives allege that complaints against the plant are politically motivated. Authorities are expected to review the matter once the district environmental engineer submits the latest inspection report.

Motor Vehicle Inspector Caught Red-Handed Demanding ₹20K Bribe For SUV Registration In Valliyoor, Booked

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a case against a motor vehicle inspector for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹20,000 to register a new SUV. The inspector, identified as Perumal, was caught in a controversy after an audio recording of him allegedly seeking the bribe went viral on social media.

According to officials, the complaint was lodged by R Suresh Packiam, who had purchased an SUV last year. He had reportedly paid ₹4,35,490 as registration fees, taxes, and a late fee at the Valliyoor registration office. However, Perumal allegedly refused to process the registration unless he was paid an additional ₹20,000. The demand was made both in person and over a phone call with the complainant’s friend, Lawrance, a councillor of the Valliyoor town panchayat.

Suresh stated that he had already transferred ₹10,000 through a digital payment to Perumal’s broker, following the inspector’s instructions. However, when an additional ₹5,000 was demanded, he decided to approach the DVAC. Acting on the department’s advice, he attempted to hand over chemically laced currency notes to Perumal as part of a trap. However, the inspector was allegedly alerted by a broker before he could accept the money.

Following a preliminary inquiry, E Mcclarine Eskhol, Additional Superintendent of Police, DVAC, registered a case against Perumal under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act. Further investigations have been initiated into the allegations. Meanwhile, the leaked phone conversation has fueled outrage on social media, drawing attention to corruption in the vehicle registration process.

BJP TN Chief Annamalai Slams DMK Govt Over Delay In Publishing Police SI Final List Despite Court Orders

Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has criticized the ruling DMK government for its failure to release the final list of candidates who passed the Police Sub-Inspector (SI) exams, despite the selection process having been completed over four months ago. He questioned why the government hesitates to publish the full details of the successful candidates, especially when the Madras High Court has repeatedly insisted on its release. Annamalai has also demanded an immediate publication of the final list and the issuance of work orders for the selected candidates.

In a statement, Annamalai highlighted that many youths who were initially selected and later removed from the list have raised concerns over irregularities and confusion in the issuing of work orders for the Tamil Nadu Police Sub-Inspector for the year 2023.

The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board announced the vacancies for the Police Sub-Inspectors’ posts on 5 May 2023. A total of 1,86,610 applicants competed for 469 male and 152 female vacancies, along with 6,101 applicants for the reserved seats for police personnel and their dependents. The written examination was held on 27 August 2023, with results published by 26 September 2023. The fitness tests for successful candidates took place from 7 to 10 November 2023, and interviews were conducted between 19 December 2023, and 10 January 2024.

The first list of successful candidates was published on 29 January 2024, with fitness tests, fingerprinting, and other procedures carried out from 10 to 15 February 2024. Educational and conduct certificate verifications followed from 25 February  to 5 March 2024.

A legal case filed on 24 April 2024, in the Madras High Court questioned whether the reservation guidelines had been properly followed in the Sub-Inspector exam process. The court ruled on 21 June 2024, that proper reservation should be maintained, prompting an additional 370 candidates to undergo fitness tests and 202 to participate in interviews. Based on this, a second final list was published on 3 October 2024, but it excluded 41 candidates from the previous list without proper explanation.

While the first final list published on 29 January 2024, provided full transparency, including written test scores, interview scores, and social category information, the second list published on 3 October 2024, only included registration numbers, lacking clarity on the basis of the revised selection. This led to confusion and concerns from the 41 candidates who were removed without any explanation.

The matter was again brought to the Madras High Court, which ruled on 28 October 2024, that the final list should include full details such as candidates’ names, birth dates, marks, and social category. The court also ordered that the revised list be suspended until the full details are published.

Despite this clear directive from the court, the DMK government has still not released the final list with the complete details after nearly four months. Annamalai accused the government of causing unnecessary delays and questioned whether the future of these hardworking youths was being treated as a political game. He stressed the urgency of releasing the final list without any further delays and issuing work orders to the qualified candidates based on the court’s decision. Annamalai concluded by urging the DMK government to avoid such delays in future recruitment processes, ensuring that the dreams of the youth who aspire to join the police force are not shattered.

TN BJP Chief, Annamalai, via his official X account, stated, “The final list of those who have passed the examination for Police Sub-Inspectors should be published and their work orders should be issued immediately. In the last year, 2023, there were various confusions and irregularities in the issuance of appointment orders for Tamil Nadu Police Sub-Inspectors, who were selected in the final list and later removed from it. Youth alleges that, on 5 May 2023, the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board announced the vacancies for the posts of Sub-Inspectors of Police. Accordingly, a total of 1,86,610 youths had applied for the 469 vacant posts for men, 1,45,709 for the 152 vacant posts for women, 40,901 for the 152 vacant posts. 6,101 people had applied for the posts reserved for police officers and police heirs. Further, 20% of the candidates were selected for the post. Following this, the written examination for these posts was held on 26 and 27 August 2023, and the written examination results were published on 26 September 2023. The fitness test for those who passed this written test was held from 07 September 2023 to 10 September 2023, and the interview for those who passed it was held from 19 December 2023 to 10 January 2024. The list of successful candidates in the interview was published on the website of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board on 29 January 2024, and their fitness test, fingerprinting, etc. were held from 10 February 2024 to 15 February 2024. Further, the verification of their educational certificates and conduct certificates was held from 25  February 2024 to 05 March 2024. Meanwhile, a case was filed in the Hon’ble Madras High Court on 24 April 2024 alleging that the reservation was not followed properly in the examination for the posts of Sub-Inspector. The Hon’ble Madras High Court ruled on 21 June 2024 to follow the reservation in this case. Based on the High Court’s decision, an additional 370 candidates were examined on 08 July 2024 for fitness test and 202 of them were interviewed from 05 September 2024 to 08 September 2024 and a second final list of candidates was published on 03 October 2024. In this list, the names of 41 candidates from the first published final list were deleted. In the first final list published on 29 January 2024, the written test score, interview score, special score for departmental candidates, date of birth, social category to which they belong, etc. were clearly mentioned. Thus, the results of this examination were transparent. However, in the revised final list published on 03 October 2024, only the registration number of the examinees was mentioned. There was no transparency on the basis on which this list was published. As a result, 41 youths who were selected in the first list and removed from the revised list were affected without getting a proper explanation.”

“Following this, in a case filed in the Hon’ble Madras High Court seeking the publication of the full details of those selected in the final list, on 28 October 2024, the Hon’ble Madras High Court ruled that 15 details including the names, date of birth, marks, and social category of those who qualified for the post of Police Assistant Inspectors should be published in the final list and that the revised final list already published would be suspended until then. However, after about four months, the final list containing the full details of those who qualified has not been published till date. Why is the DMK government reluctant to release the final list of candidates with full details for the youth who have been preparing for police service for about two years, passed all the qualifying exams and are waiting to get their work orders, despite the insistence of the Hon’ble Madras High Court? There are reports of many irregularities in government services examinations. Police services are no exception, as is evident from the DMK government’s delay in releasing the final list of those who have passed the Assistant Inspectors examination. Has the future of the youth, who have worked hard and are waiting for police jobs, become a game for the DMK government? The DMK government’s unnecessary delay cannot allow the youth’s dream of becoming a police officer to be shattered. Without further delay, the final list of those who have passed the Police Assistant Inspectors examination should be published immediately based on the decision of the Hon’ble Madras High Court and work orders should be issued to them. I urge the DMK government to continue this practice in the future as well.”

‘There Is Something Very Dirty In His Mind, Entire Society Will Feel Shamed”, SC Reprimands YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia In Obscene Remarks Case, Grants Interim Relief

The Supreme Court on Tuesday, 18 February 2025, granted interim protection from arrest to YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia (popularly known as Beer Biceps) in connection with multiple FIRs registered against him in Mumbai, Guwahati, and Jaipur. The charges relate to alleged obscenity over his comments during an episode of the show “India’s Got Latent.”

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh issued the interim order, directing that no further FIRs be registered against Allahabadia based on the controversial episode. The bench also issued notices to the Union of India, the State of Maharashtra, and the State of Assam, while hearing the writ petition filed by Allahabadia.

The interim protection comes with several conditions:

  1. Allahabadia must join the investigation when summoned by the Investigating Officers.
  2. He is required to fully cooperate with the investigation and cannot be accompanied by any counsel inside the police stations.
  3. He is to deposit his passport with the Investigating Officer at Thane police station.
  4. Allahabadia must not leave the country without the permission of the Supreme Court.
  5. He and his associates are prohibited from airing any other shows until further orders.

The Court also gave Allahabadia the liberty to approach the local police in Maharashtra and Assam for protection if he faces any threat to his life and liberty, which could prevent him from joining the investigation.

Although the Court granted interim relief, Justice Kant was highly critical of the language used by Allahabadia, labeling it as “dirty” and “perverted.”

“Are you defending the kind of language?” Justice Kant questioned Allahabadia’s lawyer, Advocate Dr. Abhinav Chandrachud. Chandrachud admitted that he was personally “disgusted” by the language used by his client but argued that the issue at hand was whether the language rose to the level of a criminal offence.

“If this is not obscenity, then what is obscenity? Is the judgment [in the Apoorva Arora case] a license to say whatever you want?” Justice Kant retorted, seeming unconvinced by the lawyer’s argument.

Further criticizing Allahabadia’s remarks, Justice Kant remarked, “There is something very dirty in his mind, which has been vomited by him in the program…He is insulting parents also. Why should the Courts favor him?”

During the hearing, Justice Kant described the offensive remarks as deeply troubling: “The words which you have used, parents will feel shamed. Sisters and daughters will feel ashamed. Entire society will feel shamed. It shows a perverted mind.”

Chandrachud also mentioned the multiple FIRs filed across the country, including one in Jaipur. However, Justice Kant clarified that as of the hearing, only two FIRs had been registered, one in Mumbai and another in Guwahati. The judge referred to the different nature of the FIRs, stating that one related to offensive language used against individuals from Arunachal Pradesh. “The dirty language, humiliating FIR used against the persons of Arunachal Pradesh is the subject of the other FIR,” said Justice Kant.

Chandrachud also referred to the Nupur Sharma case, where the Court granted relief despite the controversial remarks made by Sharma. He argued that his client was receiving death threats. Justice Kant responded to these concerns, stating that while threats are unfortunate, “If you can try to attain cheap publicity by saying these kind of things, there might be others also who might want to get cheap publicity by making threats.”

The bench also raised concerns about the involvement of Allahabadia’s lawyer in visiting the police station. “Why did the lawyer go? Under which law? Just because you can pay and lawyers will start rendering these services? This is insulting the [lawyers’] dress also,” Justice Kant remarked.

Chandrachud added that Allahabadia’s mother, a doctor, had also received threats from individuals posing as patients. Justice Kant responded sharply, saying, “What embarrassment he has caused to [his] parents!”

In his defense, Chandrachud emphasized that the show “India’s Got Latent” was accessible only to restricted, paid adult subscribers. The controversy arose when a 10-second video clip, recorded by one of the subscribers, went viral on social media. The Court noted that, in other countries, such shows typically included content warnings and disclaimers, which were lacking in this episode.

The episode, featuring YouTubers including Allahabadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija, sparked widespread outrage after clips surfaced online. Following the backlash, Raina issued a public apology and removed the episodes from his YouTube channel. Allahabadia also apologized for his comments, admitting that they were inappropriate.

The controversy escalated when, on February 10, the Guwahati Police registered an FIR against five YouTubers for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions. The Maharashtra Cyber Department and Jaipur Police followed suit with their own investigations.

On February 14, Advocate Chandrachud sought the intervention of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, citing concerns about possible coercive action by the Assam police. However, CJI Khanna did not respond further.

Notably, in 2024, Allahabadia received the “Disruptor of the Year” award at the National Creators Award presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Foul Play Suspected In Death Of Theni Govt College Student, Family Demands Murder Investigation

teen girl stabbed to death ranipet palakkad

A student from the Government Engineering College in Bodinayakanur, Theni district, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his hostel room. The deceased, S. Vignesh, a third-year Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) student, was discovered in the hostel’s restroom on 13 February 2025. His father, a daily wage laborer from Palayamkottai taluk, was informed about his son’s death and was troubled by conflicting statements from the college administration and hostel warden regarding the cause.

The college initially reported that Vignesh had suffered a seizure, while another version suggested he had been bitten by ants. However, the family raised doubts after noticing blood in the restroom and multiple injury marks on Vignesh’s body, suggesting the possibility of an attack with sharp objects. The Theni police also reportedly expressed suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The relatives and members of the Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), who gathered to protest, demanded a fair investigation into the matter. They pointed out that the hostel was located about 2 km from the college, with a TASMAC shop situated just 100 meters away. They also highlighted previous student complaints about the presence of unknown individuals around the hostel and the use of narcotics, which were allegedly ignored by the college administration.

The protesters called for the death to be registered as a murder and for the hostel warden and college principal to be named in the FIR under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. They also requested a thorough inquiry involving students who were with Vignesh, a video recording of the postmortem, and family presence during the process.

Further, they demanded the closure of the college hostel due to safety concerns and requested a government job for Vignesh’s family member, along with a compensation of Rs 25 lakh from the state government. The protestors also appealed to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to order a CBI investigation into the case.

How Part-Time Politician Vijay’s TVK Is Using Surveys To Create A False Narrative Of 18% Voteshare In TN Ahead Of 2026 Assembly Polls

Actor and part-time politician Vijay has been actively working to position his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as a credible alternative to established political players like AIADMK, BJP, and NTK. As part of this strategy, he has been orchestrating a massive build-up through hyped media events such as the Vikatan function, Aadhav Arjuna’s high-profile induction into TVK, and his meeting with Prashant Kishore. Additionally, exaggerated poll surveys and artificial social media traction are being used to project TVK as a formidable force ahead of the 2026 elections. His goal appears to be creating the perception of TVK as a game-changer in Tamil Nadu politics.

Now, the latest stunt involves using misleading poll surveys, such as one conducted by Dr. Fr. S. Rajanayagam, a former Loyola College professor, during the 2025 Erode by-election to project the claim that his party has the potential to secure 18.7% of the vote share in the upcoming 2026 elections, despite his party not even contesting in the elections. Social media is now spreading the narrative that these surveys show Vijay’s party is poised to garner 18-20% of the vote share, which is a blatant falsehood in the midst of this political storm.

What Is The Reality? Does Vijay Actually Have Such Widespread Support At Grassroot Level?

Contrary to claims that Vijay has a significant 18% vote share, potentially even challenging the AIADMK, Dr. Fr. S. Rajanayagam, a former Loyola College professor and the head of the survey, has stated that the rhetoric around TVK is merely wishful thinking, not reflective of actual voter turnout or percentage. The survey was conducted during the 2025 Erode by-election, which only featured the DMK and NTK as contenders, and Vijay’s party was not even participating.

Dr. Rajanayagam further explained that the 18.7% figure supporting Vijay and the TVK is uncertain. Of the participants, 7.2% were members of the TVK, but since the party was not contesting, these members were expected to vote for “none of the above.” Vijay had previously declared DMK as his primary opponent, and NTK leader Seeman had been critical of him. However, when examining how these members voted, the results were surprising. The 7.2% of TVK members were divided with 15.2% supporting the DMK, 35.8% supporting the NTK, and 49% showing no interest at all. This indicates that Vijay’s supporters lack loyalty to the party, and many are not aligned with his political agenda. It also suggests that Vijay’s lack of engagement in actual political activities and ground-level work is causing his supporters to drift toward other parties. Despite this, social media continues to push the narrative that Vijay has a 20% vote share, which is in direct contradiction to the survey’s findings.

Are Poll Surveys Manipulating Participants?

After the release of the poll survey, there have been accusations that it manipulates participants to favor actor Vijay. Political commentators suggest that a psychological technique known as “priming” could be at play in these questionable polls. Priming involves exposing participants to a particular stimulus, which then influences their response to a subsequent question, leading them toward a desired answer. For example, showing a background color or using subtle cues related to the color red could “prime” a participant to say “red” when asked. This influence can occur consciously or unconsciously, where the environment or the way a question is framed affects the answer given. In such a case, the background color may subconsciously lead the person to answer with “red,” even if that isn’t their original choice.

In the poll conducted by Dr. Fr. S. Rajanayagam, it is alleged that participants were first asked which actor they liked—Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay, or Vishal—before being asked who they preferred as the CM candidate for the 2026 assembly elections. This line of questioning may have primed respondents to choose Vijay automatically. When questioned about this, Dr. Rajanayagam initially acknowledged the potential influence of the question but later denied any priming in the survey process.

Faking Social Media Popularity

It is alleged that TVK has bought profiles with large number of followers and engagement to create a facade of popularity. A Facebook page with a whopping 4 million followers and 139k likes with the page’s cover and profile photos prominently featuring Vijay alongside the TVK party flag, may give the impression that the party’s youth wing is growing rapidly and gaining immense popularity.

The page, created in 2017, was initially set up by fans of actress Megha Akash. Despite the 4 million followers accumulated across India, the page had no direct connection to TVK, which was founded in February 2024.

Rahul Gandhi, Ravish Kumar, Zubair, And NED: The Controversial Links To U.S.-Backed “Democracy” Efforts

In a significant move, the Trump administration has halted funding to the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a U.S.-based organization established in 1983 under former President Ronald Reagan. The NED, which claims to promote democracy worldwide, has long been accused of engaging in regime change operations and interfering in the internal affairs of foreign nations. It is alleged that the organization has been used as a tool for advancing U.S. geopolitical interests under the guise of democracy promotion.

NED’s Controversial History

Founded during the Cold War to counter communist influence, the NED has been linked to political upheavals in several countries, including Ukraine and Bangladesh. Governments in Russia and China have banned the organization, citing its role in destabilizing regimes. In India, the NED has been under scrutiny for its alleged involvement in funding media training programs, NGOs, and journalists critical of the government.

The organization’s board of directors includes prominent figures like Victoria Nuland, a former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State known for her involvement in regime change operations. Nuland’s association with the NED has raised suspicions about the organization’s true motives, particularly in regions like South Asia and Eastern Europe.

Allegations Of Media Manipulation In India

The NED has been accused of indirectly funding left-leaning media outlets and journalists in India. One of its beneficiaries is Reporters Without Borders, an organization that releases annual press freedom rankings. Critics argue that these rankings often portray India in a negative light, with questionable comparisons such as ranking Afghanistan above India in terms of press freedom.

The NED has also been linked to prominent left-leaning Indian journalists and media organizations. Ravish Kumar, a former NDTV anchor known for his anti-national views as well as critical views of the BJP-led central government, was awarded the Independence Prize by an NED-funded organization. Similarly, The Print, a digital news platform founded by Shekhar Gupta, received an award from the International Press Institute, which is supported by the NED and George Soros’ Open Society Foundation.

Fact-checker Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of Alt News, was also recognized by the NED-funded Index on Censorship. Zubair, who has been vocal about press freedom in India, has often been at odds with the government, leading to allegations that the NED is promoting anti-establishment narratives in the country.

Political Connections And Deep State Allegations

The NED’s influence is said to extend beyond media to political figures. In 2023, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi delivered a lecture at Stanford University at the invitation of Larry Diamond, a senior consultant at the NED and a vocal critic of the Modi government. Diamond, who has described India as “no longer a democracy,” has long been associated with the NED and its affiliated organizations.

Gandhi’s decision to speak at Stanford on Diamond’s invitation has fueled speculation about his ties to the so-called “deep state.” Critics have accused Gandhi of aligning with foreign entities to undermine the Indian government, though no concrete evidence has been presented to support these claims.

The Trump administration’s decision to cut funding to the NED has sent shockwaves through the organization and its beneficiaries. With its financial lifeline severed, the NED’s ability to continue its operations is in doubt. Observers predict a similar fate for other U.S.-backed initiatives, particularly those perceived as tools for foreign interference.
