Brazilian President Bolsonaro asked to “behave and wear a mask” by the federal court

Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s President, has been noticed without a mask during his public appearances in Brasilia. He had been incorrectly wearing the mask or had completely skipped wearing it during multiple occasions like at protests, shops and even a floating barbecue. This has been met with contempt and outrage, as he had been repetitively breaking multiple rules that had been put in force after the country’s coronavirus outbreak surged.

Responding to the public outrage, the federal court in Brazil ordered Bolsonaro to rectify his “at best disrespectful” by wearing a mask while stepping out. It has also imposed a daily fine of 2,000 reais (£310), if he continued to flout the rules. Mask-wearing had been made mandatory in the country after the global COVID-19 pandemic onset in April.

The judge who issued this ruling reiterated to the President that he was not above the rules, and that he had to follow them whilst travelling around the capital city of Brasilia. He further cited Brazil’s oath of office in which presidents vow to “uphold, defend and fulfil the constitution, obey the laws [and] promote the wellbeing of the Brazilian people”. Bolsonaro made no comment on this ruling or respond to the criticism on this issue.

Meanwhile, Brazil stands with a staggering coronavirus toll of 1.5 million and 52,771 deaths.

Major earthquake rattles Mexico, 5 killed

A major earthquake of magnitude 7.4 shook the southern part of Mexico on Tuesday. About five were reported dead in this earthquake that rattled the South Pacific coast of the country. The fatalities were near the quake’s epicentre in Oaxaca, a mountainous state known for its coffee, mescal, and Spanish colonial architecture. The authorities reported that two of the deaths reported were at the state-run oil company, Pemex, shortly after which the refinery was shut down temporarily. Pemex also reported a fire that had occurred as a result of this earthquake.

Rescue workers have not yet been able to access isolated villages reportedly hit, raising fears that more could have been injured.

Buildings that were several hundred miles from the epicentre were also found to have been shaking, and people had rushed out of buildings as soon as the alarm had gone off. Churches, bridges, and highways also suffered damage during the quake.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that there had been more than 140 aftershocks, albeit small.

Helicopters flew around to survey the damage as the nurses and doctors tried to calm down the patients in coronavirus isolation wards, who had gone into a state of panic due to the earthquake. Meanwhile, there were several groups of people found in clusters on the streets without proper PPE, despite constant warnings by the officials due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mexico has a coronavirus toll of 1,91,000 while the number of deaths is at 23,377.

Tea seller’s daughter becomes Air Force pilot

24-year-old Anchal Gangwal, a tea seller’s daughter from Madhya Pradesh was commissioned into the Indian Air Force (IAF) due to her perseverance.

Her father Suresh Gangwal, who has been selling tea for the past 25 years in Neemuch, did not have the money to pay for her education, However, that did not stop her from following her dreams.

Her father said that his daughter got motivated and dreamt of joining the IAF when she saw defence personnel helping people during the Kedarnath floods back in 2013.

To pursue her dream, Gangwal collected information from bookstalls to understand how to prepare for the examination.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan congratulated her for making the state proud. “Daughter Anchal, who made Madhya Pradesh proud, will now fly in the heights of the infinite sky to protect the pride and honour of the country,” the MP CM tweeted while sharing a picture of Gangwal in her uniform.

Breaking: Majority of Indians don’t trust Rahul Gandhi on national security matters, Modi gets thumbs up

In a poll conducted by IANS and C-Voter on the India China Faceoff, it has emerged that only 14.4% of those surveyed trust Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on national security matters. 61.3% do not trust Rahul Gandhi “at all” and 24.3% “trust Rahul Gandhi only to some extent”.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoys the trust of Indians “to a great extent” (72.6%). 16.2% “trust PM Modi only to some extent” and 11.2% “don’t trust PM Mod at all”.

Similarly, majority (73.6%) trusted present government more than the opposition on national security. Only 16.7% trust the opposition more than the Indian government on issues of national security.

However, a majority of the Indians (60.2%) think that the Indian government still has not given befitting reply to China. 68.3% of those surveyed also think that China is a bigger problem for Indian than Pakistan.

Another minor Hindu girl in Pakistan abducted, converted to Islam and married off to kidnapper

In yet another incident of terrorization of Hindu minorities in the Islamic state of Pakistan, a minor Hindu girl was kidnapped, converted to Islam and was then married off to the same kidnapper. The incident happened in Jacobabad in Sindh province of Pakistan.

Wazir Hussain kidnapped a young Reshaman on June 18. The minor Hindu girl later turned up and produced a certificate carrying the new name Beesharan claiming that she was 19 and that she converted on her own will. She was later forcibly married off to the same Wazir Hussain who kidnapped her.

The report of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan states that at least 1000 non-Muslim girls are converted to Islam every year. Majority of them belong to the Hindu community from Sindh where about 8 million Hindus live.

Other instances of religious persecution of non-Muslims in Pakistan

Prior to this, 2 Hindu girls – Suthi and Shama were forcibly abducted by a local politician of Sindh province from Chundiko town. The family too faced constant threats from Islamists.

Another young girl Chandri Kolhi from Noukot, Mirpurkhas was kidnapped, converted and married to Allah Dino. The family of the girl lodged a complaint alleging that their girl was forcefully abducted and converted to Islam.

In March 2019, Raveena (13) and Reena (15) were abducted from Ghotki in Sindh on the eve of Holi and were forcefully converted to older Muslim men.

A Sikh girl was abducted and forcefully converted to Islam in Nankana Sahib in August 2019. In March 2019, 13 year old Pooja Sotahar Kumari, daughter of Fatan Rathore belonging to Bakhso Laghari in Hyderabad district was kidnapped, forcefully converted and married off to one Syed Irshad Shah.

It is to be noted that Pakistan is a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which gives the right to freedom of religion that includes not just the right to change one’s religion but also that one shall not be coerced to change their religion.

The terrorist state of Pakistan quite often advices India on human rights by raking up Kashmir while it has been notoriously indulging in persecution of non-Muslims in Pakistan.

RSS to lead nation-wide boycott Chinese products campaign

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has decided to spearhead a nationwide campaign calling for the boycott of Chinese products. So far, only its affiliated organizations like Swadeshi Jagran Manch have been vocal about it.

The decision was taken after the 3-day long meeting attended by Suresh ”Bhaiyyaji” Joshi, Dattatreya Hosabale, Dr Krishna Gopal, Suresh Soni, Ramesh Pappa, Ram Lal, Arun Kumar, Sunil Ambekar, Narendra Kumar among others that concluded on Monday. RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat did not attend the meeting.

During the meeting the recent India-China border faceoff, the government’s response and the public stance on the matter was discussed at length.

The RSS paid homage to 20 Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the violent clashes that happened on the intervening night of June 15 and 16.

From now, sellers on GeM should mandatorily mention ‘country of origin’

A Press Information Bureau released on June 23 mentioned that the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has made it mandatory for sellers to enter the country of origin while registering new projects on the GeM portal. Sellers who had already registered their product before the introduction of the feature have to update the ‘country of origin’ item for the product. It has been warned that the products shall be removed if not updated.

This is considered as a step towards promoting Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India.

A provision to mention the percentage of local content in the products has also been introduced. With this, both the country of origin and the percentage of local contents will be made visible on all products brought.

Also, a ‘Make-in-India’ filter has been introduced. Buyers can now choose to buy only those products that have more than 50% local content.

GeM, a special purpose vehicle under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is an online portal for procurement of common use goods and services required by central and state government departments, public sector organizations, and other government organizations.

Railways providing care to corona patients

India Railways has started to provide care to referred patients for admission in COVID Coaches in various states. Moon’s strange asymmetry-New Explanation

As we understand, Earth’s Moon has its ‘near side’ which is facing to the Earth and ‘far side’ which is away from earth. The composition of the Moon’s ‘near side’ is oddly different from its ‘far side’, and scientists now think that they have finally understood why it is so.

The Earth-Moon system’s history remains mysterious. Scientists believe when a Mars-sized body collided with the proto-Earth, the two were formed. Earth retained the heat whereas Moon ‘froze’. However, it offers many observable features keeping the scientists busy. Most planets of the solar system have satellites. Mars has 2, Jupiter has 79, and Neptune has 14, all with different characteristics. The formation of satellites has always been a part of the study.

Moon is relatively cold with a limited amount of water and little tectonic processing. Observable features of the Moon gives a clue of the difference in ‘near’ and ‘far’ side. Till a point in time, the patches seen on the perpetually facing near side was thought to be seas. Early astronomers had names these ‘maria’ (latin for seas). Using telescopes it was found that they were craters. It was assumed the ‘far side’ would also be the same. From the first images of the USSR space probe launched in the late 1950s and early 1960s, it was found that there is only 1% of craters or volcanic features on the ‘far side’ as compared to 31% on the ‘near.’ In late 1960s and early 1970s, NASA Apollo Mission scientists brought 382 kgs of moon rocks for studies. Scientists figured out the relative darkness of these patches were due to their geological composition and they were, in fact, attributable to volcanism.

A new type of rock named KREEP (K is chemical name for potassium, REE – Rare Earth Elements that includes Cerium, Dysprosium, Erbium, Europium, and other minerals rare on earth, P – Phosphorus). But it perplexed scientists as to why where they unevenly distributed between the far and near sides of the moon.

Scientists at the Earth-Life Science Institute at Tokyo Institute of Technology, University of Florida, Carnegie Institution for Science, Towson University, University of Mexico, and NASA Johnson Space Centre have got some clues about this asymmetry using observations, lab experiments and computer modelling and have traced it to an important property of KREEP. They had conducted high temperature melting experiments on rocks with various KREEP components and studied the implications of volume and timing of volcanic activity at the lunar surface.

Potassium (K), Thorium (Th), and Uranium (U) are radioactively unstable and exist in different atomic combinations with differing number of neutrons. These varying combinations of the same element are called isotopes. The unstable isotopes break and give rise to new elements producing heat in the process. This heat due to the radioactive decay can melt rocks in which they are contained in.

Presence of KREEP in rocks lowers their melting temperatures in addition to enhanced heating, compounding the expected volcanic activity from simply radiogenic decay models. This study also places constraints on the timing of Moon’s evolution and the order in which various processes occurred on the moon. The study suggests that Moon’s KREEP-enriched maria have influenced evolution of the Moon.

The Moon’s near side have high concentrations of U and Th unlike any other place on the moon. Understanding the origin of these local U and Th enrichments will help explain early stages of moon’s formation and also conditions of early earth.
