Independent vlogger Maridhas tears into News 18 and other TN news channels lobby, Communists and EVRists gang up against him

Popular vlogger and social media activist Maridhas released a video on July 5 exposing the background and working of Tamil news channels like News 18 Tamil Nadu, News 7 and Puthiyathalaimurai. In his video, he primarily exposes the links between News 18 anchor M. Gunasekaran and Dravida Kazhagam, DMK and Communists.

Gunasekaran is the son-in-law of Kali Poongundran (Kaliamurthy Naidu) who is also the Deputy President of Dravida Kazhagam (DK). He is also being touted as the movement’s next president after K. Veeramani. Poongundran is known for his essays abusing the Hindu religion and Gods in the DK’s mouthpiece Viduthalai.

He was one of the man who instigated protests against Superstar Rajinikanth for his speech in Thuglak anniversary in January 2020 about E.V. Ramasamy’s Salem rally that portrayed Hindu Gods in bad taste under the garb of anti-superstition rally.

Maridhas in his video says that anchors in mainstream Tamil news channels like News 18, News 7, and Puthiyathalaimurai (run by SRM Group of Institutions owner and currently DMK MP T.R. Parivendhar) try to create a narrative that is favourable to the DK, DMK and Communists and that is against the present regime at the Centre and Tamil Nadu with separatist flavours. He also reveals about another employee of News 18, Jeeva Sagapthan whose wife shares connections with DK’s Oviya known for her comments against India and Hindus.

Maridhas makes a claim that 70% of News 18 Tamil Nadu employees have an affiliation with Communist or DK movements. He says that almost all of the Tamil News channels recruit their employees who subscribe to Communist and EVR’s ideology. He says that News 18 Tamil Nadu hides behind a neutral image but works in favour of DK, DMK and Communists. He adds that even the head of these news agencies have no control over the employees as their strings are pulled by ‘someone else’.

He also sheds light on an organization called Centre of Media Persons for Change (CMPC) (www.cmpc.in) which seems to be an extension of communists, DK groups. The Hindu’s N.Ram is also closely associated with this group.

Another person that he exposes is Peer Mohamed, founder of a digital portal called Ippodhu. Peer Mohamed was former Senior Editor at Thanthi TV and special correspondent at Puthiyathalaimurai TV.

In 2015, they had arranged a meeting condemning that freedom of expression is under attack. Puthiyathalaimurai had run a debate on whether “Thaali” (mangalsutra) is important or not! The channel earned the ire of a lot of people as Thaali is considered sacred by the Tamil populace. Maridhas in his video asks if whether these journalists has the guts to debate on whether ‘burqa’ is needed or whether ‘church’ is needed.

He also calls out the Youtube channel “Karuppar Kootam” that brazenly abuses Hindus and Hindu Gods.

Some of the persons associated with CMPC and content writers in news channels like News 18, Puthiyathalaimurai trace their history to One Mind Generation Research whose directors are Mohan Karthik, and Anbil Poyyamozhi Mahesh. It is said that the DMK party currently is run by Udhayanidhi Stalin (son of MK Stalin), Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi (son of former MLA and close confidante of MK Stalin Anbil Poyyamozhi), Mohan Karthik (son of current Anna Nagar MLA M.K. Mohan of DMK) and Sabareesan (son-in-law of MK Stalin).

He clarifies in his video that he does not share hatred towards media or journalists but is only against those who peddle a certain narrative. He warns in his video about the danger of hegemony of certain few who share one particular ideology and is favourable to one particular party which is currently prevalent in majority of the Tamil news channels.  He says that there need to be journalists who can accommodate different opinions and also who can speak the truth boldly.

Maridhas has sent a report of the activities undertaken by journalists of News 18 Tamil Nadu to the board of directors of the Network 18 group. Through his video, he has also urged everyone to send a mail to the Network 18 group in order to bring about a change in the media houses that is currently infested with ‘poisonous snakes’.

It is in light of this that Maridhas once again finds himself against the likes of Communists, EVRists (followers of E.V. Ramasamy Naicker aka Periyar). The hashtag #StandWithNews18TN was trended by EVR, DMK and Communist sympathizers saying that press freedom in Tamil Nadu is under attack. Congress MP from Karur too tweeted regarding the matter.

Maridhas has tweeted that it is DMK that stands as a threat to press freedom and not him. He said that if the press has freedom to question everybody so does he have the right to question the press that works for one party and one ideology. He reiterated that many of the journalists in Tamil Nadu are stooges of the DMK. He said that he welcomed the condemnation against him and said that he looks forward for more such every week. The next video is set to be released today (June 7).

NSA Ajit Doval holds ‘frank talk’ with Chinese Foreign Minsiter Wang Yi, PLA troops back off

India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a ‘frank and in-depth exchange of views’ regarding the recent developments in the western sector of India-China border areas, a statement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs said.

The press release said that NSA Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation on July 5.

Both sides have agreed to expeditiously complete the disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). “The two sides should also ensure a phased and stepwise de-escalation in the India-China border areas,” it said.

“NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese FM Wang Yi will continue their conversations to ensure full and enduring restoration of peace and tranquillity in the India-China border areas in accordance with the bilateral agreements and protocols” the statement said.

The statement observed that both sides should observe and respect the LAC and not take unilateral action that will alter the status quo and work together to avoid any incident that could disturb peace and tranquillity along the border.

NSA Ajit Doval from the Indian side and Foreign Minister Wang Yi are the Special Representatives of India and China on the Boundary Question.

It added that the two special representatives would continue their conversations to ensure full and enduring restoration of peace and tranquillity in the border areas in accordance with the bilateral agreements and protocols.

As a first sign of de-escalation, the Chinese PLA withdrew its troops from the Galwan Valley as decided during the high level talks between the two militaries.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also confirmed the de-escalation and said on Monday that progress has been made on frontline troops taking effective measures to disengage and ease tensions.

Oscar winning Italian Composer Ennio Moricone dies at 91

Ennio Morricone, the famed Italian composer whose tunes made Clint Eastwood a star, passed away on July 6. He was 91. It was reported that he died in hospital having fractured his femur in a fall some days ago.

He was known as the “Maestro” for his stellar composition, and went on to win two Oscars, one for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight in 2016, while the other was an honorary one in 2007. He has been credited with changing the entire sound scene of the cinema of that era.

He has worked on more than 500 film and TV scores. His famed works include Once Upon a Time in America, The Untouchables, Cinema Paradiso, A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. His scores with Leone became legendary, and earned Clint Eastwood his taciturn gunslinger, known as “The Man With No Name”.  Despite his Hollywood fame, he remained rooted to his Italian background and continued to do the sound scores for the Italian film industry.

Celebrities from all over the world expressed their regret over his demise on several social media platforms. His death was marked by Italian health minister Roberto Speranza, who tweeted: “Adieu maestro, and thank you for the emotions you gave us.” Composers AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer also took to Twitter to express their condolences.

Hindus is Pakistan halt temple construction after Pakistani Muslims destroy boundary wall invoking Allah

The Islamabad Hindu Panchayat mentioned that it has decided to stop the construction of a new Krishna temple after a few Muslims razed down the boundary wall of the temple.

In the video that is going viral on social media, a Pakistani Muslim can be seen destroying the partially constructed boundary wall. The man identified as Malik Shani Awan invokes the name of Allah while demolishing the temple. To add to the effect, he even added background music for the video that roughly says “I have not let my children suffer… I am Pakistan.” In another video, he expressed his thanks to fellow Pakistanis for their overwhelming support. Before he began with the destruction of the temple, he had expressed his gratitude towards Allah for stopping the construction of the temple.

The facebook profile of Malik Shani Awan mentions him as working for a news channel, 99 News. It says that he is from Islamabad but lives in Rawalpindi. His entire profile is filled with posts asking for people to stop the construction of the temple. He had shared posts that urged Muslims to prove their Muslimness by stopping the construction of the temple. In a post he had vowed that he will never let a temple be constructed. In another post he had referred to Lord Hanuman as ‘bandar’ (monkey).

The construction of the temple had faced lot of opposition from Muslims. The Pakistani Government had said that they would consult Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and proceeded to halt the construction of the temple citing legal reasons.

According to Pritam Das Rathi, a Hindu civil cervant, around 3000 Hindus live in Islamabad and surrounding regions without a temple or a crematorium. The demand for this Krishna temple has been a long standing one, says Lal Chand Malhi, a Hindu lawmaker and a Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaaf politician. This temple complex was to comprise of a cremation ground, visitors area, parking area and a community hall.

However, the construction has been stopped by the Hindu panchayat following the destruction by Islamic elements. They would reach out to the Capital Development Authority to resume construction.

Earlier Islamic leaders had attacked the Imran Khan government for granting funds to the construction of a Hindu temple in Islamabad as they considered it to be against Pakistan’s ideology. They said that building a temple on taxes of Muslims will not be tolerated.

Odisha groom’s father arrested and fined over viral wedding procession video during lockdown

The father and brother of a groom in Odisha were arrested and fined with ₹50,000  after the video of their viral wedding procession that had flouted all the social distancing rules came to light. This procession had happened in the state’s Ganjam district, a COVID-19 hotspot.

In this video, most guests were seen without masks and they were in close contact with each other throughout the procession. Sources said this well-known hotelier in the town had obtained permission from the authorities for his son’s marriage at a hotel at Gopalpur-on-Sea on July 2. The hotel has reportedly been sealed for seven days, they said. According to the rules in the Unlock 1 and 2, a maximum of 50 people alone are allowed to attend weddings.

“On charges of violation of COVID-19 rules for marriage in Berhampur, Rs 50,000 fine was collected and FIR filed against both the parties,” Ganjam Collector V A Kulange said. He added that our joy should not end up ruining the lives of others.

The district has reported 2,066 COVID-19 cases so far, and it also tops the list of fatalities with 20 people succumbing to the disease. Odisha’s coronavirus death toll stands at 34. According to an official notification, two IAS officers – Parul Patawari and Vishal Singh – have been appointed as special ADMs (in-charge) for COVID-19 management in Chhatrapur and Bhanjanagar sub-divisions in the district.

New Brain Eating Amoeba found in Florida causes scare

A rare brain-eating amoeba has been reported to be found in Florida’s water bodies, causing authorities to issue an alert about the same. This was found after a man from Hillsborough County was reported to have caught the infection. This amoeba, called Naegleria fowleri, is single-celled but has the ability to cause an infection of the brain, and is usually fatal. It is usually found in freshwater bodies like lakes, rivers, ponds, and canals.

The officials have issued an alert to people in the region, instructing them to refrain from having nasal contact with the water in these places. The symptoms that are usually exhibited by those who have been infected include fever, nausea, and vomiting, as well as a stiff neck and headaches. Most die within a week. The authorities have advised the locals to seek immediate medical help if they display these symptoms.

Infections are typically seen in southern US states. They are rare in Florida, where only 37 cases have been reported since 1962.  Between 2009 and 2018, only 34 infections were reported in the country. Of those cases, 30 people were infected by recreational water, three after performing nasal irrigation with contaminated tap water, and one person was infected by contaminated tap water used on a backyard slip-n-slide, as reported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Meanwhile, Florida has recorded over 200,000 coronavirus cases with deaths crossing 3730. The overall coronavirus cases recorded in the USA are around 2.9 million, with the death toll at 1, 32, 000.

South Korean officials vow to investigate death of triathlete

South Korean officials publicly apologized and vowed to investigate the death of Choi Suk-hyeon, a triathlete. She reported that she was abused by her team coach, physical therapist and colleagues. 

She was found dead after she sent a text message to her mother asking her to expose the alleged crimes of those who abused her. She had registered petitions with several government and sports organizations. However, she did not receive a quick response from the authorities.

Choi Yoon-hee,Vice Sports Minister said that a 20-member investigation team was launched last week to find why authorities didn’t respond to the athlete’s petitions.

They will also look into the functioning of sports supervisory and support bodies over this case.

The lawmakers identified the team coach Kim Kyu-bong and two other athletes who deny the allegations against them.

Her death was confirmed as suicide and the state prosecutors are separately investigating allegations of abuse she made before her death.

Earlier Monday, two of her ex-teammates told reporters they and Choi had been physically and verbally abused by their team’s coach, a physical therapist and senior teammates. They were also forced to eat $167 worth of bread until dawn as a punishment for gaining weight.

We will thoroughly investigate. We’ll sternly punish those responsible for Choi Suk-hyeon’s death,” the Vice Sports Minister added.

Video of Dalit man carrying slippers of DMK MLA goes viral

A video of a Dalit office bearer of the DMK, carrying the slippers of DMK MLA from Ambur A.C. Vilwanathan, has emerged.

The DMK MLA had gone to visit the rain-damaged barrier at Ponnappally village of Arangaldurgam Panchayat in Thirupatthur district on June 30. A few DMK members, including Venkatasamudram Panchayat Secretary Shankar, accompanied him. The area being slippery, the DMK MLA had removed his slippers to walk freely. The DMK MLA can be seen walking ahead while Sankar follows carrying the MLA’s slippers in his hands. Sankar belongs to the Scheduled Caste community.

This has landed DMK in yet another “DMK vs. Dalit” controversy. Earlier, Rajya Sabha DMK MP R.S. Bharathi courted controversy for saying that the appointment of Dalits as High Court judges in Tamil Nadu was “alms” given by the Dravidian parties. On May 13, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran speaking to reporters after meeting the Chief Secretary to submit  petitions received under DMK’s propaganda banner “Ondrinaivom Vaa” said “They treated us like third-class people. What are we? Depressed class people?

The latest video has gone viral with people questioning the credibility of the party’s talks about social justice. However, Sankar has refuted the criticism mounted on the MLA saying that the he was not asked by the MLA to carry the slippers. Sankar added that it was him who carried the slippers voluntarily. Speaking on the matter, MLA Vilwanathan said that he does not see caste of people and was hurt by the allegations levelled against him. He said that those who are not able to tolerate his growth are creating controversy with vested interests.

Earlier, when Tamil Nadu Forest Minister Dindigul C. Sreenivasan asked two tribal children to remove his slippers, it had caused huge outrage and became a subject matter of debate shows in Tamil Nadu. A complaint was filed with the police from the boys’ side. The Minister later regretted his actions and met the boys and their mother along with 50 other members of the tribe.

However, several netizens and media personalities have questioned the double standards shown by DMK and certain mainstream Tamil media agencies. Media personality and News Head of Channel Vision Madan Ravichandran tweeted questioning the silence maintained “strict face anchors” belonging to certain channels. Others on Twitteratis too have questioned the double standards shown.

Statue of Fredrick Douglass vandalized

A statue of Frederick Douglass was ripped from its base in Rochester on 5 July, 2020, the same day he delivered his most significant speech – “What to the slave is the fourth of July?” in Corinthian Hall, Rochester.

He was an escaped slave who became a prominent activist, author, and leader of the abolitionist movement. He worked to bring an end to slavery. He advocated for the rights of newly freed black Americans to vote and women’s rights.

Police officials said the statue was taken on 5 July, 2020 from Maplewood Park.

In a statement by Rochester police, the statue was found near the Genesee river where it “had been placed over the fence to the gorge and was leaning against the fence” on the river side. The river is about 50 feet from the pedestal.

The base and lower part of the statue was damaged. A finger of the statue’s left hand was broken.

Carvin Eison, leader of the Douglass statue project said that another statue will be placed because the damage done is too significant.

“Is this some type of retaliation because of the national fever over confederate monuments right now? Very disappointing, it’s beyond disappointing,” she adds.

“I think a lot of dummies need to LEARN about history before they try to erase it. Maybe then they would have left Fredrick Douglass’s statue alone,” said Dr. Darrell Scott.

FIR against 2 bank employees for refusing Kisan Credit Card and violating Central government orders

FIR has been lodged against 2 bank officials in Uttar Pradesh for violating orders of Government of India and for refusing to provide Kisan Credit Card to farmers.

District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar took stern action against the officials after coming to know of the officials laxities in addressing farmers’ concerns.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Department R.B. Chowdary had said that the Centre has given instructions to give Kisan Credit Card to every farmer who is eligible for Kisan Credit Card. However, this directive is not being followed in most banks.

It was found that bank officials neither paid heed to farmers coming with requests for Kisan Credit Card nor were they properly treated at banks. Farmers were being made to run from pillar to post for getting KCC.

There were complaints that banks like State Bank of India and Allahabad Bank not giving KCC to farmers.
It also came to light that two employees employed at these banks did not properly comply with government orders.

CDO Abishek Pandey had approached the bank and ordered that the KCC be issued. But the attempt went futile and bank officials turned a deaf year. ‘

Subsequently, District Governor TM Raveendra Kumar ordered the FIR to be registered on both bank employees.

Following this FIR was lodged against district coordinator for SBI Pawan Kumar and district coordinator Atul Kumar of Allahabad Bank.
