Nithyananda launches Reserve Bank of Kailasa, currency ‘Kailashian Dollar’

Controversial godman Nithyananda who fled the country and has apparently founded his own nation ‘Kailasa’, has now come out with a currency, a reserve bank and an economic policy for the same. On the occasion of Vinayaga Chaturthi, the self-styled Godman took to social media to announce the launch of Reserve Bank of Kailasa and the currency ‘Kailashian Dollar’.

The Kailashian Dollar is supposedly made of gold. 1 Kailashian Dollar weighs 11.6638038 grams.

The denominations of the Kailashian Dollar issued by the ‘Reserve Bank of Kailasa’ are 1/4 Kailashian Dollar, 1/2 Kailashian Dollar, 1 Kailashian Dollar, 2 Kailashian Dollar, 3 Kailashian Dollar, 5 Kailashian Dollar, and 10 Kailashian Dollar.

In the statement issued in social media, it was stated that Reserve Bank of Kailasa has signed an MoU with ‘a country’ for hosting the bank. It claimed that the Reserve Bank of Kailasa is a legitimately incorporated body and that its currencies would be issued only in countries with which Kailasa has signed ‘diplomatic treaties’.

It also stated that Nithyananda is not legally part of or a representative or an agent of the Reserve Bank of Kailasa and or its affiliates.

The Governor and Directors of the Reserve Bank of Kailasa will be run by sanyasis who take the 5 vows (non-violence, truth, celibacy, minimalistic living, and non-stealing) in front of a Viaraja homa. These are the crown prince and princesses who are first class citizens of Kailasa who had joined gurukul as minors and had and taken sanyas after becoming major.

The Kailashian Dollar is said to be inspired from currencies and policies of the ‘ancient 56 Hindu nations which were Hindu nations in the past’.

The statement went on to claim that a team of monastic members had spent 2 years researching and studying hundreds of books, articles and research papers on Hindu Economic Policy.

It also stated that Kailasa does not claim that the ancient 56 nations are Hindu nations presently and neither does it make any territorial claims.

“Kailasa formally declares that the 56 ancient nations are the most favoured for trade and bilateral relations”, the statement said.

It goes on to say that Kailasa is like a ‘seed bank’ trying to keep alive Hinduism ‘in a remote corner of the world’.

The statement declared that Nithyananda and Kailasa are not against India but have been forced to withdraw due to ‘anti-Hindu’ and ‘anti-Indian’ elements and also due to continuous attempts at assassination of his character.

Nithyananda is a fugitive and accused of a number of crimes including rape. He is charged under Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), and 114 (criminal abetment), among sections of the Indian Penal Code. The Karnataka High Court had cancelled a bail granted to him in connection with a rape case dating back to 2010.

Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice (issued to collect additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in relation to a crime) against him.

Terrorists taking shelter in Kozhikode forests: Intel reports

A report by a Kerala based news channel citing reports said that several terrorists took shelter and even convened a meeting in eastern parts of Kozhikode forest. Quoting local eyewitnesses, the report said that a group of strangers (around 18 people) made their way into the forest area and had stayed in the uninhabited area for several days. This spot is supposedly difficult to reach in late July and early August due to the monsoon. There are indications that some of these people had stayed in the woods and rocks. A few of them climbed the hill every morning through an undulating path. A makeshift tent is reported to have been set up at these places.

Young women were also supposedly part of this group of people. It is said that the girls were staying at the home of a female leader of an IS-linked religious extremist organization.

Earlier Mohammad Yahya was arrested from this area by the Bangalore police for having links with terrorists. Several years ago, banned terrorists groups have also conducted training on the hill top in the same area.

Intelligence agencies have now launched an investigation in this area. They are not ruling out the possibility of manufacturing of explosives in the region. They have said that the terrorist organizations are trying to tighten their grip in Kozhikode and surrounding regions.

Saivite Sadhu commits suicide after getting beaten and humiliated by SI Anthony Michael

A Sivanadiyar (Saivite Hindu Sadhu) named Saravanan committed suicide after being harassed continuously by a police official named Anothony Michael.

Saravanan hails from Kundangal Kaadu near Sangagiri in Salem district. An ardent devotee of Lord Shiva he made his living by offering occult services like tying amulets, etc and also by performing rituals and poojas.

Sivanadiyar Saravanan is a well-known face in and around the village. Last Friday (August 14), Sub Inspector Anthony Michael had come from Thevoor Police Station to Sivanadiyar Saravanan’s home reportedly after receiving a complaint that alleged the latter of creating nuisance.

Saravanan was thrashed and beaten up in front his children by SI Anthony Michael. Feeling traumatized and humiliated, Saravanan had not spoken a word for the rest of the day.

On Saturday morning, he had left his house to never return. His body was recovered from a forest area on August 20. A cell phone recovered from the spot had a video recording of Saravanan’s suicide note.

In the video, Sivanadiyar Saravanan accuses SI Anthony Michael for his death. “I was subject to humiliation by SI Anthony Michael. For this extreme step of mine, nobody else is responsible other than Anthony Michael. Don’t think you can do all you want with the power you have. Somehow, this video will reach to the people. My soul will not leave you. You and your family cannot escape from my curse. I say this invoking the Sivan I worship. Father (Lord Shiva).. I am coming to you now. Siva Siva! Nama Sivaya!”

Sivanadiyar Saravanan’s son Shankar was reported saying that his father was beaten and humiliated in front of everyone for no wrong. He said that SI Anthony Michael had warned his father to not do what he was doing as there had been more than 10 complaints on him. Sankar was not able to stop the SI from beating as he was scared that the police might take action on him too.

Ever since the incident came to light #JusticeForSaravanan has been trending on social media. Relatives of Sivanadiyar Saravanan have called for strict action against SI Anthony Michael.

One day in Chennai

The waves lashed on the Bessy shore in unison, as soft rays of sunshine broke out from the horizon. I drenched my feet in the salty water of the sea and dug my toes deeper into the slipping sand. I looked out to in front of me an enormous billion litre symphony orchestra performing in tandem. As the stomach grumbled and my mind was having second guesses between Ratna’s cafe and Karpagambal’s mess, I settled for the latter. Doused in copious amounts of Sambar, fluffy idlies and crisp vadais satiated my hunger. Quickly hopping across the street making my way into the Parthasarathy Kovil my inner child beat against the wall of my ribcage for another serving of the prasadham that was served in a humble dhonnai. City of love might be Paris, but for every Chennaite, Parrys is the paradise of dreams. Godown street with its shine, glitz and glamour, Devaraja mudali street with its gleaming glasswares and eye-catching display of dyes and colours, Kasi chetty street for my retail therapy, Nainiappan Naicken street for my fitness fix, Avudiappa Naicken street to increase my healthy calorie count, Anderson street for every type of invitation, Cute, simple, chic and even cheeky and my favorite Bunder street for the stationery hoarder within me. After multiple rounds in the maze, the stomach grumbles as all types of flavours come wafting in air from the adjacent Sowcarpet. Kachodi, Samosa, Jalebi, aloo chaat, pani puri, murukku sandwich and atho shops. My diet plans are now fed up with me as I stand in line for my turn at the Kakada Ramprasad shop. As I exit Parrys and get the perfect filter coffee brew mix from the hole in a wall Narasu’s shop my eyes fall on the Aggarwal sweets shop. After downing another 700-800 calories in the form of full fat basundhis and rasamalai my stomach and heart become heavy to leave this haven. I walked past the huge buildings the famous “jouli” kadais of Chennai in T.Nagar. After being carried away by the crowds I stopped to catch my breath in front of the shops where the AC breeze caressed my sweat soaked face. Taking a detour, I settled for a Jigarthanda from Murugan Idly kadai. A melange of orange, white and thread like strands it instantly made me forget the commotion that I had just been through. As I was rather impatiently wedged between people in the share auto I saw a bus full of school kids going on their very first to Mahabalipuram. To work my fogged mind I perused through various magazines in the shops opposite to the Egmore station I picked up a few. Crossing all the statues at the Anna square and paying a mental note of gratitude to all the great leaders I dug into a bowl full of sinful goodness from the Titanic fast food shop – Ah! That Gobi rice! There it was. The lighthouse aping the Statue of Liberty and watching us all over. On my return home I packed hot paruppu polis from the Venkateshwara Boli stall. I rushed through the scanners as I hurried to catch the last metro home. As the glass doors closed behind me and the tube whirred into motion my mind calmed down. Women returning from work, children falling asleep on their parents laps, lovers bidding goodbye to each other and perennial happiness seekers like me thanking the stars for another day with you.

Oh Chennai! When will we be able to indulge in you like this again?

To grow old and wiser with you, infuse oursleves with all that you have to offer. You are a melting pot of cultures. From the vendors in the Koyambedu market to the millionaires trading in diamonds, is there any one you haven’t welcomed with open arms?  Your sultry sea breeze and searing temperatures might unsettle a few but for many like me. It is home. It is where we belong.

Corruption in Kerala govt’s ‘free Onam kit’, jaggery found adulterated

State-wide raids conducted by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau at Supplyco packing centres, Maveli stores and ration shops revealed large scale corruption and adulteration in the Onam kit meant for free distribution.

Complaints were received by the Vigilance Director Anil Kant about the anomalies in quantity and substandard quality of items being provided as part of the Kerala government’s Onam kit. It was also reported that the price printed on the packets were more than the market price. In several places, some of the items in the kit were found to be missing. Raids conducted revealed that quantity of jaggery as part of the kit was 50 to 100 gms short. Several packets did not even have manufacturing/packing/expiry dates.

Janam TV, a Kerala based news channel had exposed the packing of jaggery. The food safety department had then sent the jaggery for inspection.

It was reported that the jaggery distributed as part of the Kerala government’s ‘free Onam kit’ was adulterated. It was found that the different brands of jaggery brought from other states were made into one single brand. The packing took place two weeks ago in the auditorium of a private individual at Chemancherry Panchayat’s Thiruvangoor. This packet did not mention the date of manufacturing or expiry, a report by Janam TV said.

The food safety department officials also noted that the jaggery brought for distribution through Supplyco for Onam was inedible and unfit for human consumption.

IAF prepares for formal induction of Rafale fighters, PM Modi & French Defence Minister could attend ceremony

As the Indian Air Force (IAF) prepares for a high-profile Rafale induction ceremony which could include Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French defence minister Florence Parly at the air force station in Ambala, it is quite possible, France may offer more fighters at a lower cost.

Preparations for a formal ceremony is likely to take place in the coming weeks although a final date has not been decided on.

Right now the five Rafale jets that flew all the way from France to India on July 29 are being integrated into the air force and is pitted to be a force multiplier. The fighter has already proven its worth by successful weapons firing at a test range after arrival.

After the Galwan valley ambush by Chinese Soldiers that led to the killing of 20 Indian armies personal and an unspecified number of Chinese casualty, French defence minister Parly, had pledged support for India and had requested for a bilateral visit.

It is quite likely she will be part of the formal ceremony at Ambala, in the second half of August sources said.

The French delegation is also likely to ask India for a larger order for the Rafale fighter jets under the Make in India initiative.

According to sources who told Economic Times, a proposal for creating a new production line for Rafale fighter jets in India could be on the table. If this happens, India could soon produce world-class fighters and a similar proposal has also come from the makers of F-21 fighters manufactured by Lockheed Martin.

As India has allowed foreign companies to have 74 per cent stake in defence entities under the new foreign direct investment (FDI), the French side could invest in setting up a new production line, if a sufficient order book is available.

India purchased 36 Rafale jets as an off the shelf and an economically viable production line could be set up if India orders at least 100 more aircraft, besides options to cater to the export market.

The new Rafale jets could cost considerably lesser than the Euro 7.8 billion paid for the first batch of 36 aircraft. The reason for such high cost is due to training, creating infrastructure and making India-specific enhancements.

Now that we have the technical know-how with regards to training, the cost of a new jet will now be less.

California strapped for resources as forest fires strike again

At least 6 people have been killed in the Californian forest fires that have been raging since Thursday, as the state remains strapped for resources. Several hundred homes are under the threat of being set ablaze by these fires, as the forest fire refuses to die down, despite desperate attempts by the State to extinguish it. The fires had reportedly been triggered by a strike of lightning, which set forth a domino effect that caused a significant area that was densely populated with trees to catch fire.

Winds have been lashing out in the area, making it difficult for the firemen operating in the area to safely evacuate people from there. Despite mass evacuation orders in surrounding areas authorities have resisted calls to evacuate the two prisons: California Medical Facility (CMF) and Solano state prison. Notably, there was an influx of COVID cases reported in the latter only recently.

Although temperatures were predicted to ease slightly on Friday, they were also expected to be hot enough so that firefighters will not be able to count on cool evening weather aiding them. Erratic winds also could drive the fires unpredictably in multiple directions, state fire officials said. Nearly 50,000 people were ordered evacuated in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties.

According to Reuters, plumes of smoke and ash fouled air quality for hundreds of miles around the fire zones, adding to the misery and health risks of residents.

After Bajwa snubbed by the Saudis, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Qureshi scampers to China for support

After the failed mission of Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to placate and the subsequent snubbing by the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, motor mouth Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has rushed for a visit to China for support.

As per a Times of India report, Qureshi has now gone to China to meet his counterpart Wang Yi to seek the support which Pakistan did not get from Saudi Arabia.

“I am leaving on a very important visit to China. My delegation will represent the stance of the political and military leadership of the country. I hope that my meeting with foreign minister Wang Yi will prove to be beneficial for both countries”, Qureshi was quoted as saying.

However, it seems Qureshi was met with only a low-level Chinese foreign office dignitary at the airport along with members of Pakistan mission in Beijing.

According to reports published in the Hindustantimes, Qureshi is travelling with a three-point plan in hand that included scaling up military cooperation between the two countries.

The People’s Liberation Army and Pakistan army had, in August last year, signed a pact in Rawalpindi army headquarters for defence cooperation and capacity building of Pakistan Army. Some are calling this agreement as a joint military commission.

Also, Islamabad wants Beijing to raise the Kashmir issue again at the forthcoming UN General Assembly session next month.

It seems in the coming days Pakistan’s relationship with Saudi Arabia is going to unravel as it sides with Turkey to help it prop as the leader in the Islamic world.

Being the only nuclear power Islamic nation, Pakistan is hoping with Turkey as its leader and Iran, Malaysia and Qatar who it seems are already on board, they could provide an alternative to the current Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Once this platform is established, Pakistan feels it can then challenge India on Kashmir with support from new allies.

It all started when Qureshi had threatened that if the OIC headed by Saudi Arabia did not convene a foreign ministers’ meeting on Kashmir, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan will find a new way with allies among the Islamic nations.

This direct threat made by Pakistan did not go well with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is also going through its own political and social change from within. For Saudi Arabia, any challenge to its leadership of the OIC is a direct attack as the de facto leader of the Sunni Muslim community across the world.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has dreams of reviving the Ottoman Caliphate and wants to be the leader of the Sunni Muslim world. However, the road to the leadership of the Muslim Ummah will not be easy.
