Dutch politician Geert Wilders calls Tehreek-e-Labbaik leader Saad Rizvi “a Pakistani criminal”

geert wilders pakistani

Geert Wilders, a Dutch businessman and politician who is also the leader of the Party for Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid – PVV) since he founded it in 2006 has called for the arrest of Tehreek-e-Labbaik leader Saad Hussain Rizvi.

Tehreek-e-Labbaik, a Pakistani Islamic political party, was founded by Rizvi’s late father, the firebrand Islamic scholar and author Khadim Hussain Rizvi, who supported the blasphemy laws in Pakistan and the imposition of Shariat law.

In a tweet, Wilders said “Jail this Pakistani criminal #SaadHussainRizvi for life @ImranKhanPTI. And ban his islamofascist party #TLP who’s former leader issued a fatwa against me for organizing a #Muhammad-cartoon contest. Protect freedom. #TLPNationWideProtest #Wilders“.

Immediately, there was outrage in Pakistan against Wilders and supporters of Tehreek-e-Labbaik who have practically paralysed the Punjab province in this week’s anti-French protests in Pakistan, which many are calling a civil war.

In another recent tweet, Geert Wilders said that Islam is a violent and discriminatory ideology that endangers free societies and Pakistan’s violent nature is living proof of it. French President Emmanuel Macron had already made it very clear that under the French law, blasphemy is not a crime.

A few days back Wilders sent out a tweet and allegedly made disparaging remarks about Islam at the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Wilders is against the growing threat of Islam in the Netherlands and has compared Islam to Nazism and the Koran to Adolph Hitler’s book Mein Kampf.

Harsh Vardhan hits back at Manmohan Singh’s letter to PM

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan took to Twitter to respond to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s letter to PM Narendra Modi on the COVID-19 crisis. He said that speeches by Congress representatives were to blame for the country’s “vaccine hesitancy,” accusing Congress-ruled states of being “major contributors” to the second wave.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had written a letter to PM Narendra Modi on Sunday suggesting five measures to contain the pandemic.

Responding to the letter, Dr. Vardhan said,” Your advice to not get tempted to go by absolute numbers, but to go by percentage of population covered, is not incorrect. However, I am sure that you will agree with me that this is a practice that must be followed uniformly and junior members of your party too must follow your advice.”

He continued saying,” it is saddening,  Dr. Singh, that while you very well understand the importance of vaccination as an important method of fighting the COVID-19 battle, people in responsible positions in your party as well as in the state governments formed by your party do not seem to share your view.

Let alone thanking our scientists for the COVID-19 vaccines, many Congress members and Congress-ruled state governments have taken extraordinary interest in spreading falsehoods regarding the efficacy of these vaccines, thereby fuelling vaccine hesitancy, and playing with the lives of our countrymen,”

Harsh Vardhan concluded his letter saying, “We request your continued cooperation in the battle against the pandemic and welcome more such illuminating suggestions. However, as a senior leader, we expect that you shall offer the same advice and wisdom to your own party leaders as well.”

Netizens have fun over DMK’s fears of ‘EVM hacking’

As Tamil Nadu waits for May 2 for the election results to be declared, the DMK has been fretting over the outcome with many of its top leaders including its chief expressing concerns about Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) getting ‘hacked’.

On April 16, DMK Deputy General Secretary A. Raja, along with Rajya Sabha MP R.S. Bharathi and senior leader  Ponmudy submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo a complaint written by MK Stalin which alleged that “covered vehicles” in the name of mobile toilets and unauthorized persons were being allowed inside strong rooms used to store EVMs.

The DMK chief also said that many numbers of wi-fi connections are being found in active mode near these vehicles alleging that attempts are being made to ‘hack’ EVMs.

He also said that there have been instances of individuals entering the rooms, in Ramanathapuram, Neyveli and Tiruvallur.

“In Tiruvallur strong room campus, many unauthorised persons claiming to be computer instructors are allowed to come inside the premises, for undisclosed reasons. CCTV cameras were not working for around 30 metres,” he alleged.

These incidents have created high suspicion over the security /protocol provided in the strong room premises and thereby the safety of the polled EVMs is in question, DMK chief MK Stalin said in his letter.

After the DMK chief writing this letter, cadres from the DMK and its alliance parties  been going after vehicles with big metal containers. In one incident, the cadres cornered a container that was to be used for construction purposes. They let the vehicle go only after the police arriving at the spot and the owner showing that nothing was there inside.

Time and again, the Election Commission has said that there is no way EVM’s can be tampered with as it is a stand alone machine (just like a simple calculator) not connected to any network. However, political parties like Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, have often resorted to blaming EVMs whenever their party has faced defeat. Now adding to the list of parties is DMK. It must be noted that the DMK swept the 2019 Lok Sabha elections grabbing 38 of the 39 seats with the same EVMs.

In light of the DMK’s fears of ‘EVM hacking’ netizens have been oozing out their creativity through funny memes, one liners and stories.

Puthiya Tamilagam’s Dr. Krishnasamy demands white paper on temple properties

Dr. K. Krishnasamy, president of Puthiya Tamilagam, demanded that Tamil Nadu temples be freed from all forms of government control, illegally occupied temple lands be reclaimed and a white paper on revenue be issued.

Puthiya Tamilagam party leader Dr. Krishnaswamy met reporters at his residence in the Kuniyamuthur area of Coimbatore.

He said, “The property of all major temples in Tamil Nadu has been looted. The government should take action to prevent looting. The income generated by temple property belongs to the people, and the state government must ensure that it reaches them. In addition, the government should take action to restore illegally seized temple property and issue a white paper outlining the steps taken so far.”

He also questioned how government officials administering the Hindu temples could become so wealthy.

Furthermore, he added, “HR&CE manages 36,850 temples, 5.75 million hectares of land, and 2.5 million square feet of commercial space. Due to the unlawful occupation, the annual revenue is just 50 crore rupees. If the revenue is collected properly, the state’s annual budget can be prepared without the imposition of any taxes. The Coimbatore Perur temple, for example, has 2,500 acres of land. Nobody knows where the money from these properties ends up. The movable and immovable property of all such temples should be recovered. Otherwise, I will go to court and the struggle will be carried out by mobilizing the people.”

Rameshwaram fishermen hunt for offerings in Agni Theertham

Rameshwaram fishermen, who were left without income, searched for the offerings made by the devotees in the Agni Theertham.

A large number of devotees take a holy bath every day in the Agni Theertham located inside Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameshwaram. Devotees performing Thithi and other rituals at Ramanathaswamy temple would bathe in Agni Theertham to worship their ancestors. They also offer gold or silver plates, coins, rupee coins, or gold-plated goddess statues in the Theertham. The temple administration makes no attempt to recover any of these offerings in the Agni Theertham.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has imposed a 61-day ban on fishing in 13 coastal districts starting April 15 to allow for fish breeding. The state government compensates fishermen for their losses by providing ₹5,000 per fisherman. Fishermen who were unable to support their families with the money given by the government dive into the Agni Theertham in search of the  devotees’ offerings which may later be sold for money to meet their everyday needs.

Fishermen said that they would rather engage in the task of looking for the devotees’ offerings to meet the everyday expense than to sit idly at home without work.
