Famous Tiktok star arrested for sexually harassing 14 year old

Andhra Pradesh police have arrested a Tiktok star under the POCSO Act for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Visakhapatnam. Chipada Bhargav, also known as Fun Bucket Bhargav, is a Tiktok celebrity who became famous through the ‘supposedly’ funny videos that usually end with him exclaiming ‘Oh my God!’. His videos went viral on social media, regardless of language, because they were meant to be funny.

His perverse behaviour came to light on April 1 when the victim’s family lodged a complaint at the Pendurthy police station in Visakhapatnam. The victim is reportedly 4 months pregnant.

Apart from the POCSO Act, Bhargav has been charged under sections 376 (punishment for sexual assault) and 354 (assault or criminal offense against women) of the Indian Penal Code, police said. Subsequently, the accused Bhargav was arrested in Hyderabad and brought to Visakhapatnam. The case is being investigated at the Disha police station in Visakhapatnam.

Speaking at the press conference, the Vishakapatnam Disha police station’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Prem Kajal said, “The accused had promised to help her get a chance to appear on media channels after seeing her in Tiktok videos. He had then gone ahead to propose his love to her, which she had declined. Following this, he had intimidated her, claiming to have private videos of the woman, and had sexually assaulted her. She is currently pregnant.”

Police have warned people against sharing the photo of the victim on social networking sites. They also said that action would be taken against those who did so.

Meanwhile, photos of Nitya, a popular Tiktok celebrity, have been circulating on social networking sites, claiming that she was the said victim. She had allegedly acted with Bhargav in his videos. Nitya, however, denied the allegations and posted a video on her Instagram page explaining that she was not involved in the case.

Karnataka suspends drug control officer involved in Remdesivir racket

Remdesivir Karnataka

In what is being seen as a strong message to corrupt government officials, the Karnataka state government has suspended BR Venkatesh, a drug control officer for his alleged involvement in a Remdesivir supply racket.

The state government had earlier imposed strict Covid-19 guidelines to combat the deadly rise in the number of the coronavirus cases in Karnataka.

Additionally, the government had also issued instructions to the state’s medical officers and drug control officers to ensure that there was ample stock of Remdesivir and other life-saving drugs in the pharmacies of Covid-19 hospitals across the state.

Keeping with these instructions, 96 vials of Remdesivir injection were supplied to the BGS GIMS Hospital in Bengaluru. However, BR Venkatesh, a drug control officer employed by the state government, allegedly supplied a dose of the Remdesivir to a private agent, instead of arranging for it to be supplied to a Covid-19 patient who needed it at the aforementioned hospital.

Taking cognisance of his misconduct and gross negligence which resulted in an artificial scarcity of the drug, the government swiftly suspended Venkatesh pending further inquiry.

The Karnataka government has now set up a war room to ensure the supply of medical oxygen and Remdesivir at hospitals in Bengaluru.

Archaelogical excavation in Gangaikondacholapuram reveals pottery, nails, coins

Archaeological Excavations at Gangaikondacholapuram have uncovered pottery, nails and copper coins. The Government of Tamil Nadu announced last year that excavations in Tamil Nadu for the year 2020-21 will be started by the Archaeological Survey of India at 7 locations across Tamil Nadu, including Keezhadi, Adichanallur and Gangaikonda Cholapuram.

Accordingly, the ASI surveyed Gangaikonda Cholapuram and its surrounding villages near Jayankondam in Ariyalur district last January by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) within a radius of 18 km to explore 6 locations including Ponneri, Kalkulam, Ayudhakalam, Manmalai and Maligamedu around Gangaikonda Cholapuram. Photo and video were taken with the tools and the study was carried out.

In preparation for the excavation of the mansion at one of the selected sites, the clearing of the Mandi grass bushes took place last February. Subsequently, work is being carried out at selected locations by radar equipment.

Of these, 10×10 pits have been dug, and work is in progress on that site. Also, pottery tiles, roof tiles, nail types and copperware found at the site. Archaeological officers are engaged with staff in intensive research as to whether there are more fossiled remains of that period hidden beneath the soil.

Australia cancels BRI agreement with China, spoils Beijing’s ambitions in that region

In a major setback to China and President Xi Jinping, Australia has cancelled the controversial Belt and Road Initiative agreement.

Foreign Minister deemed the  agreement to be “inconsistent with Australia’s foreign policy”

With this, the relationship between Australia and China has hit an ebb with experts warning that Canberra must be read to face a Beijing counter strike. Already Chinese officials are furious and have warned of serious repercussions.

Lowy Institute lead economist Roland Rajah said, “It has a range of options including trade and diplomatic ones. China has already targeted quite an extensive range of Australian industrial and agricultural products so much so that is running out of possible hits.”

Responding to the Australian foreign minister statement, a Chinese spokesperson said, “This is another unreasonable and provocative move taken by the Australian side against China,”.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has been Xi Jinping’s most ambitious project with China investing in trillions countries across continents.

China is already upset with Australia when it called for an independent enquiry into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and solidifying the QUAD.

Madras HC grants permission for collectorate complex at temple land in Kallakurichi

madras hc arthanareeswarar temple

The Madras High Court has granted permission to build the Kallakurichi Collectorate complex after getting the approval from the relevant departments.

A collectorate complex was to be built on 14.09 hectares (34.82 acres) of drylands belonging to Sri Arthanareeswarar Temple located at Veerachozhapuram in Kallakurichi district.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Collectorate complex was held on October 23 without purchasing the land from the HR&CE department.

Earlier, a bench comprising Justices M Sathyanarayanan and R Hemalatha, stayed the construction of the collectorate after several devotees and Hindu organizations registered their objections with the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department and subsequently filed a case.

In February 2021, the bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy gave the green signal to acquire 35 acres belonging to the Sri Nareeswarar Temple. The bench also directed the state government to form a two-member committee comprising the Kallakurichi district collector and district judge to ascertain the value of the land which is to be alienated from the temple.

The petition came up for hearing again before the bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy. As there was a big discrepancy between the report given by the committee and the value reported on behalf of the petitioner, the State Bank of India had ordered the appraisers to nominate the names of the three persons. In it, the judges ordered that someone was to be appointed as an appraiser and file a report. It was also ordered that the petitioner and the Government representative may be present while the appraiser conducts the inspection.

Following this, Advocate General Vijay Narayan demanded that the ban on construction work be lifted as there was only a problem related to the determination of rent. The tender procedure and the environmental permit were also questioned by the petitioner. The bench granted permission to the government to start construction upon obtaining the approval of the relevant departments. The case has now been adjourned to the second week of June.

Pakistan National Assembly contemplates expulsion of French Ambassador, could lose 65 million Euro soft loan

As Pakistan’s National Assembly contemplates expelling the French Ammbasador, the French government is providing a soft loan of ₹12.3 billion (65 million euros) for the bus rapid transit (BRT) Red Line project in Karachi.

The French Ambassador to Pakistan Marc Barety who could soon be expelled and country director of the French Agency for Development (AFD) signed the credit financing agreement with Secretary for Economic Affairs Division Noor Ahmed in Islamabad to co-finance with the Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and Green Climate Fund.

Trouble started in Pakistan when the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP), an ultra Sufi Islamist group came out in the street after French President Emmanuel Macron said in France people have the right to blaspheme and defended the right of the press to publish cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad.

The funding for the construction of the 26.6km BRT corridor in Karachi is also being called innovative in many ways, with the choice for the bio-methane hybrid bus technology, powered by a dedicated waste methanisation plant.

However, it all hinges on how the Pakistan Parliament votes because if the French Ammbasador is not expelled the TLP could plunge Pakistan into a civil war.
