He said that Jaishankar dressed like a ‘waiter’ has been placed in quarantine in London and cannot return home. He then went on to challenge to refute his allegations if they were not true. “If not true, refute it please.”, he added.

However, a day later, Minister Jaishankar clarified to the media that positive tests were a false alarm and said all the team members were back in the country.

On Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar returned to the country from London, where he had self-isolated following reports that some diplomats from the team accompanying him had exposed to Covid-19.

Stalin does a flip-flop on lockdown

Just a day after taking oath as Chief Minister, MK Stalin has imposed a full lockdown for a period of 14 days starting from May 10 to May 24.

It is to be noted that a few days ago on 24th April, the now Chief Minister MK Stalin had warned the government of imposing another lockdown after May 2.

Complaint filed against YSRCP ZPTC election candidate for misusing SC benefits and suppressing facts in election affidavit

The BJP candidate who contested the Andhra Pradesh Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) elections from Kollipara constituency has complained against the YSRCP candidate Kathera Heni Christina for misusing reservation benefits meant for Scheduled Castes and for suppressing information about her children.

In the complaint to the District Collector, it has been alleged that Kathera Heni Christina, a Christian representing a Christian missionary organization named ‘Harvest India’ has misused reservation benefits meant for Scheduled Castes.

As per the Constitutional (Scheduled Castes) Order of the President 1950, a person ceases to be a member of the Scheduled Caste community if he/she professes a religion other than Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism.

Also, Kathera Heni Christina had mentioned names of only two of her children in the election affidavit. However, during a speech in an open conference in the United States she had said that she was blessed with 3 children. It has been reported in the complaint that she has 4 children in total.

The complaint notes that this is a violation of Section 19 (3) of the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act 1994 which clearly says that a person who is having more than two children shall be disqualified for election or for continuing as a member.

Kather Heni Christina had earlier filed Election Affidavit during 2014 General Assembly Elections and contested from Tadikonda Constituency (SC Reserved – Guntur) on behalf of YSR Congress Party. In her election affidavit she did not disclose the details of her children and their whereabouts whereas, in her current nomination as contestant for Kollipara ZPTC elections, she mentioned only 2 children by suppressing the fact she has 4 children.

In this light, BJP candidate Mandru Sarala Kumari who is also a member of Scheduled Caste and had contested the ZPTC election from Kollipara reserved constituency has petitioned the District Collector to take action against Kather Heni Christina for misusing the reservation benefits meant for Scheduled Castes and for suppressing the fact that she has four children.

N Rangasamy sworn in as CM of Puducherry, BJP to be part of cabinet

N Rangasamy

All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) chief N Rangasamy was sworn in as the chief minister of Puducherry on Friday in a brief five minute-ceremony held at Raj Nivas at Puducherry. He will lead a coalition government, with members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in his cabinet.

On Friday afternoon, the Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Ramasamy, giving him his fourth stint in the office of the CM. N Rangasamy, who was the only legislator who was sworn in today, took the oath in Tamil.

While Karnataka is the lone southern state in India with the BJP in the ruling government, the party’s induction in the Puducherry cabinet points that the Narendra Modi-led party is expanding its political footprint in the region.

The BJP also fared well in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, where it won four assembly seats, infringing upon the Dravidian parties’ fiefdom.

Union Minister of State for Home and BJP leader Kishan Reddy attended the oathtaking ceremony. Reddy told presspersons that the BJP and AINRC would have three ministers each and they would sworn in the coming days. These six ministers, and Rangasamy, would bring the strength of the cabinet to seven members.

BJP’s A Namassivayam, who was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP’s legislature wing, is tipped to be the deputy chief minister. This would be the first ever instance of the union territory having a deputy chief minister.

The AINRC won ten seats while the BJP won six, giving them the simple majority in the thirty-member house. The six independent MLAs are mostly supporters of N Rangasamy.

The DMK won six seats out of the thirteen constituencies it had contested, while the Congress managed to only win two of the fourteen seats contested.

Stalin’s cabinet has no Ministers from Cauvery Delta region which gave a sweep to DMK

The absence of a single person from the delta districts in the DMK’s cabinet list has disappointed the people of region which gave a lot of seats to the DMK in the recently concluded Assembly Elections.

Along with DMK leader MK Stalin taking over as Chief Minister, 33 other Ministers took oath of office today. The DMK, which captured 15 of the total 18 constituencies in the delta districts, has given no ministerial berths to any of its MLAs elected from this region. All of the party’s senior executives in the delta districts seem to be dissatisfied with not even a single representation in the Cabinet. At the same time, those close to Stalin’s family have been accommodated in the cabinet despite their less age and experience.

The DMK’s seeming boycott of the delta has not gone down well with the party leaders and cadres of the region.

RaGa writes to PM Modi, says ‘complete lockdown inevitable’, questions efficacy of India’s vaccine again

rahul gandhi Indian democracy

As the country is grappling with the second wave of the Wuhan Virus,  Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a list of suggestions one of which is calling for a complete lockdowon of the country.  He also raised doubts over the efficacy of made-in-India vaccines and asked him to share the study findings with the world.

Rahul Gandhi also said the government’s failures in containing the pandemic have made “another devastating national lockdown almost inevitable”. This is the second letter he has written to the PM after the second wave of Covid-19 hit India.

“Your government’s lack of a clear and coherent Covid and vaccination strategy… has placed India in a highly dangerous position,” Gandhi said.

By writing this letter, Rahul Gandhi has again questioned India’s ability to develop an indigenous vaccine. When Bharat Biotech announced it has developed Covaxin, the Congress party went all out to question its efficacy and in that process create doubt in the minds of average Indians.

In his letter to the PM Gandhi said, “The pandemic has demonstrated that our size, genetic diversity and complexity make India fertile ground for the virus to rapidly mutate, transforming itself into a more contagious and more dangerous form. The double and triple mutant strains that we are currently grappling with are only the beginning, I fear,”.
