Defense Minister Rajnath Singh calls bifurcation of J&K and Ladakh as historic decision

India's Offensive, Defensive Responses Need To Be Strengthened: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh

Speaking at an event in Ladakh, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday (28 June) said that the Modi government’s decision to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh as two separate Union territories (UTs) as ‘historic’ and this decision bolstered national security and led to a major reduction in terrorist activities, reports Economic Times.

Singh also said that the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two UTs allowed new avenues for the socio-economic development of the people in both regions.

Singh also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent meeting with political leaders from the UT of J&K also known as the “Gupkar Gang” and made it very clear that the government does not want the “same situation” to continue in the region for long.

Singh also criticised those who questioned PM Modi’s intent for Jammu and Kasmir and Ladakh, and said, “He wants that political process to start in Jammu and Kashmir as well as in Ladakh. And he is going to speak (to people from) here. He has spoken to people of J&K. We do not want the same situation to prevail for a long time.”

During his three-day visit to Ladakh, Singh also dedicated 63 bridges built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which will now allow the free movement of people and give our armed forces better logistics.

Feature Image courtesy: Bar and Bench

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police has booked Twitter India’s chief Manish Maheshwari after Twitter showed the wrong map of India on its website.

Along with Maheshwari, one Chitra Singh has been booked under Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 74 of the IT (Amendment) Act, 2008.

The complaint was lodged after Twitter showed an incorrect map of India which appeared on the career section of the website earlier last weekend. On the map, one could clearly see that Twitter showed Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, as a separate country.

After this was pointed out, Twitter got rid of the incorrect map of India from its website late Monday (28 June) night. This is not the first time Twitter has altered the map of India and only last week it suspended the account of Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad.

Twitter is already in trouble with the law in UP as the Police have already issued a summons against Maheshwari in connection with a misleading video of an elderly Muslim man being assaulted in the Loni area of Ghaziabad district.

The microblogging site was also issued a second notice by Ghaziabad Police to seek “account details” of the suspects accused by the Police of posting and promoting the video.

Madras High Court: TN govt cannot form committee on NEET without Supreme Court’s permission

"Wield 'Iron Hand' Against Corruption", Madras HC Knocks On DMK Govt Head Amidst Stalin Govt Claiming Tamil Region As Pioneers Of 'Iron Age' madras high court dmk stalin

The Madras high court observed on Tuesday that the Tamil Nadu government cannot form a committee to analyze the effect of NEET on MBBS aspirants from socially backward classes without the Supreme Court’s permission.

The Madras High Court issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu government based on a petition filed by BJP state general secretary Karu Nagarajan. The plea claims that the 9-member committee formed by the TN Government, calling it unconstitutional, illegal, unfair, and without legal justification.

While hearing the plea, the court posed a series of questions to the Tamil Nadu government over its decision to set up a committee to look into the impact of NEET, asking if it had obtained the permission of the Supreme Court as forming a committee on NEET will be a violation of Supreme Court’s ruling.

Advocate General R Shunmugasundaram, who appeared on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, has submitted that it was a policy decision taken by the government. He added that the policy decision was backed by the manifesto and the people’s demand.

“Maybe. But if it is contrary to the Supreme Court order, then it cannot be permitted,” the bench said before adjourning the matter to July 5.

Meanwhile, opposition parties and the general public have criticized the DMK government for interfering with student’s lives by instilling false hope.

Tamil Nadu BJP Spokesperson SG Suryah criticized the DMK government for giving false hope to Tamil Nadu students.

New York Post uses misleading image and headline for news about murder of Islamic cleric by his wife

The New York Post has published a news item that can not only be called callous and irresponsible but also a clear case of Hinduphobia after it used the of a Hindu Sadhu holding a Diya with the headline “Indian priest’s wife chops off his penis after he wanted to marry again” for a story involving a Muslim man and his wife.

The headline and the previous image was misleading because it was an Islamic cleric whose penis was chopped off by his wife after he wanted to marry for the third time. During interrogation, she confessed to the police and said that they have 5 daughters, one of whom was unmarried and while the Islamic cleric was planning his third marriage, he showed no concern to his unmarried daughter. this led to a heated argument after which Hazra attacked him with a knife and chopped his member.

New York Post’s story was a clear case of dog-whistle journalism because of its intent to insinuate that the priest was a Hindu while it was a 57-year-old Islamic cleric in Muzaffarnagar named Maulvi Vakil Ahmad’s whose wife Hazra attacked him after he decided to take a third wife.

This led to immediate outrage and NYP was called out by netizens. It quickly fixed the featured image and replaced it with a stock image of a police van. However, it has still not changed the headline which is still misleading as the majority of readers of the New York Post are not Indians but Americans adding to the ignorance, bigotry, and prejudice against Hindus.

Twitter shows distorted map of India on its website

After suspending the official Twitter handle of Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Twitter has gain courted controversy by displaying a distorted map of India, showing Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh as a separate country.

On the micro-blogging site career section, Twitter showed Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh detached from the country.

This is not the first time Twitter has done something like this. In October 2020 when India and China were at a standoff, Twitter had shown Leh as part of China which it later called a glitch in its geo-location.

Immediately the Centre had last year written to the Twitter CEO that India will not tolerate the misrepresentation of the map of India.

In a warning, the government said any attempt by Twitter to disrespect India’s “sovereignty and integrity is totally unacceptable”.

In the last few weeks, Twitter has been engaged in a tussle with the Indian government over the new social media rules and its failure to comply with the country’s new IT rules led to the microblogging platform losing its legal shield as an intermediary in India, and becoming liable for users posting any unlawful content.
