This was true when some attackers were demolishing Somnath, it is equally true even today, when the world is apprehensive of such ideologies.”, the Prime Minister insisted.

The Prime Minister said that  reconstruction of Somnath temple to grand renovation is due to centuries of strong will and ideological continuity. ‘Great men like Rajendra Prasad ji, Sardar Patel and KM Munshi faced difficulties for this campaign even after independence. He said ‘From Somnath and Nageshwar in the west to Vaidyanathin the east, from Baba Kedarnath in the north to Shri Rameshwar, at the extreme southern end of India, these 12 Jyotirlingas serve to connect the whole of India.Similarly, the arrangement of our four dhams, the concept of our Shaktipeeths, the establishment of different pilgrimages in different corners of our country, this outline of our faith is actually an expression of the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.’

“Allah has given us this victory, Muslims should celebrate Taliban’s rise”: TN Moulana

A Muslim Moulana from Tamil Nadu has put out a video in his YouTube channel in which he hails Taliban’s rise in Afghanistan calling it the grace of Allah and that it is a moment of celebration for the Islamic community.

In the video, the Moulana Shasudeen Qasimi says “After hearing about Corona 2nd wave, 3rd wave and 4th wave, Taliban’s 2nd wave is all over the news. Allah has given us this huge victory to us through the victory of Taliban. The Muslim world should celebrate this victory.”

He said that the Taliban has been wrongly portrayed as a terrorist group by the “prostitution media” and that there was no need for Muslims to be apprehensive of sympathizing with Talibans for the sake of being identified as a terrorist supporter.

He also goes on to say how an ‘ordinary’ and ‘peaceful’ group has taken over Afghanistan and declaring that they won’t harm any civilians.

Contrary to the Moulana’s claims people in Afghanistan are fearing for their lives and trying to escape from living under the barbaric Sharia rule of Taliban.

Qasimi also goes on hurl abuses on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Ministers calling them as fascists and fools.

“The one ruling India, our fascist “Ji” (PM Modi) doesn’t know crap. A cabinet of fools. They are bunch of foolish administrators. They don’t know external affairs. They don’t know who they should accommodate with. Look around. China has taken Sri Lanka in its hands. China has taken Pakistan in its hands. Bangladesh is also being taken over by China slowly. All this is because of our nasty policies by our “ji”. They have lost everything to China. That China has now smartly acknowledged and has supported Taliban. The Tamil news paper Dinamalam (referring to Dinamalar derogatorily)  has published saying that that one woman was shot for not wearing burqa. You guys die with your stomachs on fire”. the Moulana says.

Many on social media including YouTubers like Maridhas have condemned the Islamic clerics hate speech and for sympathizing with the terrorist group.

Taliban stops import and export from India, could lead to shortage in sugar, pharmaceuticals and spices

In a new development that was anticipated, the Taliban has reportedly issued orders that all imports and exports with India will be stopped after it took control of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. After the ouster of the Taliban in 2001, India developed long-standing relations with the new Afghanistan government and in order to improve the economy, particular impetus was given to trade which now has suffered an impact after the Taliban took control.

Dr Ajay Sahai, Director General (DG) of Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) told ANI that the Taliban “has stopped the movement of cargo through the transit routes of Pakistan, thereby stopping imports from the country.”

India exported “sugar, pharmaceuticals, apparel, tea, coffee, spices and transmission towers”, and imported dry fruits. Gum and onions amongst other things that greatly improved the Afghan economy.

“We keep a close watch on developments in Afghanistan. Imports from there come through the transit route of Pakistan. As of now, the Taliban has stopped the movement of cargo to Pakistan, so virtually imports have stopped,” he has been quoted as saying.

Dr Sahai further added that India is one of the largest partners of Afghanistan and the exports to Afghanistan “are worth around USD 835 million for 2021. We imported goods worth around USD 510 Million.”

He added that in addition to trade, India has “a sizeable investment in Afghanistan. We have invested around $3 billion in Afghanistan and there are 400-odd projects in Afghanistan some of which are currently going on.”

President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind calls Taliban’s victory an end to “colonial and imperialist forces”

jamaat-e islami hind taliban forces

After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, many Islamic organisations in India have been calling this a great achievement. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), an influential umbrella of the Muslim Ummah, have also now gone on to glorify the Taliban.

The President of JIH, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, said that the Taliban taking over the reins of power will “restore peace and order in the region and help to reinstate the rights of the Afghan people.”

The JIH President said, “Twenty years ago, the overthrow of the Afghan government through military action, the brutal atrocities on innocent civilians by colonial and imperialist forces, the series of bombings and raids on its cities and the constant attempts to impose the will of foreign powers on the Afghan people is a reprehensible chapter of recent history. It is gratifying to note that the perseverance and struggle of the Afghan people resulted in the withdrawal of the imperialist forces from their country.”

Husaini called the transfer of power in Kabul “peaceful” and added that it took place without much bloodshed. However, he totally forgot about reports of Taliban fighters forcibly taking girls as young as twelve, as sex slaves.

Husaini also said, “The Taliban have the opportunity to present to the world a practical example of the benevolent and merciful system of Islam. We would like to draw their attention to the fact that Islam is the advocate of peace and well-being. It gives freedom of belief. The protection of the lives and property of all human beings, including minorities, is of paramount importance to Islam. Islam is also very sensitive about women’s rights. We hope that the new rulers of Afghanistan will strictly adhere to these teachings of Islam and set an example before the world of an Islamic Welfare State where everyone is free from fear and terror and lives a peaceful and prosperous life with equal opportunity to flourish and prosper.”

Taliban leadership to discuss power sharing arrangement and distribution of spoils of war including alleged sex slaves

After India vacated its consulates in Kandahar and Herat, the Taliban Islamist facilities and looked for any sensitive documents and took away parked vehicles from both the consulates. As per reports, the Taliban are conducting door-to-door searches to identify Afghans who worked for the NDS intelligence agency, reports Hindustan Times.

As per the latest reports, some 6,000 cadres of the banned Haqqani Network has taken control of the capital city Kabul led by Anas Haqqani, brother of Sirajuddin Haqqani who wrote an op-ed in New York Times and deputy leader of the Taliban.

In Kabul, Anas Haqqani met former president Hamid Karzai, Chairman HCNR Abdullah Abdullah and Hezb-e-Islami veteran Gulbuddin Hetkmatyar who has again found some favour with the new regime.

The Taliban are negotiating with both Karzai and Abdullah to stage a formal handing over power to the Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Barader in the Presidential Palace to keep up with optics.

Sirajuddin Haqqani responsible for the death of many American and NATO soldiers is said to be in Quetta as his cadre take control of Kabul. The other powerful faction is led by Mullah Yaqoob as the head of the Taliban military. It must be noted that Mullah Omar was declared Emir ul Momeen on April 4, 1996 commission which makes his son Yaqoob very powerful.

As of now, Kandhar will again become the traditional seat of power as Mullah Barader met Mullah Yaqoob after he arrived from Doha on August 18 and to ensure all senior leaders are not in the same place, the religious head of the Taliban, Mullah Haibatullah Akundzada, is still based in Karachi in Pakistan.

After the Taliban achieved easy victory with the support of the Pakistan Army and non-state actors like the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) negotiations have started within the Taliban leadership on not only the formation of government at Kabul but more importantly the division of wealth i.e. Maal e Ghanimatmeaning spoils of war which will also allegedly include sex slaves.

JeM took an active part in this campaign and this Deobandi inspired terrorist group responsible for the Pulwama suicide attack, is demanding jagirs or land grants in south Afghanistan.

Also, talks are underway to share the cache of American weapons taken from the Afghan army and the military vehicles that have been seized by the new invaders.

“Recommendations for boosters will definitely come in future, Mixing of vaccines will not cause safety issue”: National Institute of Virology Director

ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune has been working on a war-footing for the whole of last one year. Ms. Priya Abraham, Director of ICMR-NIV, which has been at the forefront of scientific research on SARS-CoV-2 in the country said in an interview with India Science, the OTT channel of the Department of Science & Technology. that “2021 was a difficult but rewarding year for us”.

Giving a quick overview of vaccine development process carried out at the institute which has been at the forefront of scientific research on SARS-CoV-2 in the country, she explained: “We quickly isolated and gave a strain to Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) by the end of April (2020), after which they developed a whole virion-inactivated vaccine in the month of May and gave us back for review.  We checked it for its complete inactivation, did its complete characterisation and started pre-clinical trials on hamsters and non-human primates, that is, monkeys. Those are very difficult experiments to do. These were conducted in our highest Bio-Safety Level-4 level containment facilities.  In the next phase, we assisted them in the Phase I, II and III clinical trials in areas such as diagnostic aspect and laboratory support”.

Here are some excerpts from the interview on the scientific developments related to COVID-19, an analysis on the future of the pandemic and some common queries related to the virus.

In which stage is the trial of Covaxin on children running and by when can we expect to have vaccine for children?

Presently, Phase II and III trials of COVAXIN are going on for children in the age group of 2-18 years. Hopefully, the results are going to be available very soon. The results will be presented to the regulators. So, by September or just after it, we may have COVID-19 vaccines for children. This apart, Zydus Cadila’s vaccine trial is also going on. This can also be applied for children and will be made available.

Apart from these, what other vaccines can be made available for our citizens?

Zydus Cadila’s vaccine will be the first DNA vaccine which will be available for use. Besides, there is Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd.’s m-RNA vaccine, Biological-E vaccine, Serum Institute of India’s Novovax and, another interesting one – an intra-nasal vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited. This vaccine does not require a jab and can be delivered through nostrils.

Will any of the presently available vaccines be effective on Delta-Plus variant?

First of all, the Delta-plus variant is less likely to spread than the Delta variant itself. Mainly Delta variant is present in over 130 countries. It has spread all over the world and it is this variant which is highly transmissible. In NIV we have done studies on this variant. We have studied the antibodies produced in the bodies of vaccinated people and checked it against this variant. It has been found that efficacy of antibodies against this variant has been reduced two to three folds.  Yet, the vaccines are still protective against the variants. They may show a little less efficacy, but vaccines are very important to prevent serious forms of disease due to which patients may get hospitalized and even die. So, whatever the variant, vaccine is till now protective against all, including the Delta variant. So, there should not be any hesitancy at all.

Are we going to require a booster dose in the coming times? Is any study being conducted on this matter?

Studies on booster dose have been going on overseas and at least seven different vaccines have been tried out for booster dose. Now, WHO has put a stop to it till more countries catch up with vaccination. This is because there is an alarming vaccine gap between high-income and low-income countries. But, in future, recommendations for boosters will definitely come.

Are studies also on for mix and match of vaccines? Will it be beneficial for us?

There was a situation where inadvertently two different vaccines were given in two doses. We have tested those samples at NIV and found that the patients who received different vaccines in two doses were safe. No adverse effect was noted and immunogenicity was a little better. So, it is definitely not something which will cause a safety issue. We are studying this phenomenon and will be able to give more details in a few days’ time.

Has any new COVID-19 testing method emerged that gives better results and can be trusted more?

Hospitals and laboratories were overwhelmed by the huge number of cases during the second wave. Many of their staff members were infected. So, efficiency of testing had reduced during that time. There was a shortage of reagents also. All these affected the efficacy of testing. RT-PCR testing method is by itself only about 70% sensitive. But it is still recommended by WHO. But, in the future we may see easier and quicker ‘point-of-care’ tests where we need not send samples to labs.

Please tell us about ICMR developed RT-LAMP Test

RT-LAMP assay produced by ICMR is a cost-effective assay. It does not require expensive equipment or extensive training and can also be done at Primary Health Centres in districts. These kinds of quick and fast tests which can be done in technologically not so advanced places will become more popular in the future.

Self-testing kits have also come in markets now. Will it further pace up testing?

Self-testing kits are antigen testing kits and so, their sensitivity is inferior to RT-PCR method. The sensitivity is likely to be more in symptomatic patients.  But, for asymptomatic patients, the sensitivity will be less.

Can people infected by Bird-Flu or Zika Virus become susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection?

Bird Flu and Zika Virus are unrelated to Coronavirus. But one commonality between HINI Bird Flu or Swine Flu Virus and SARS-CoV-2 is that their spread is prevented by good use of masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene and cough etiquette. All these viruses spread through the respiratory route. Thus, by following COVID Appropriate Behaviour we can limit the spread of all these viruses. However, Zika Virus spreads through mosquito bites.

Do chances of COVID-19 infection increase during monsoon?

Yes, viral infections like Dengue, Chikangunya and Zika Virus infections that spread through mosquito bites are going to increase during monsoon. Accumulated water should not be kept in the surroundings as mosquitoes breed in it. It will be worse to have corona infection on top of these infections which spread through mosquito bites.

Many images of crowded places are circulating in media. How much harm can this irresponsible behaviour cause?

Definitely, this will be a problem and we will be ‘inviting’ the next wave. Dr. Tedros A. Ghebreyusus, DG of WHO says, “The pandemic will end when we choose to end it. It is in our hands.” It means that we have to be careful. Especially in the upcoming festival season, we should not indulge in crowding because that is how the virus will spread.

Is it possible that no other wave will come?

New variants will keep on coming. We have two weapons which are the biggest protection. These are: wearing mask properly and actively encouraging everyone to get vaccinated. Then even if a wave comes, it will not be a big one.

Congress govt in Rajasthan wants control of Mehandipur Balaji Temple, VHP and BJP call it a big conspiracy

After the Maha Vikas Aghadi which is the name of the coalition government in Maharashtra took control of three prominent Hindu temples, the Rajasthan government is now working towards acquiring control of the Mehandipur Balaji Temple, one of the most sacred and venerated Hanuman temples in the country, situated in Dausa district, reports Swarjaya.

The assistant commissioner of the Devasthan Vibhag (government department for regulation of temples, charitable institutions, and religious trusts) recently issued a public notification in this regard.

However, this decision has not been accepted by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Dasnam Goswami Community who are the traditional care-takers of Mehandipur Balaji and panchas (headmen) of 100 surrounding villages. They have now registered their protest against this decision and have warned the Ashok Gehlot-led state government of a massive agitation.

This all started after the demise of Mahant Kishor Puri on 8 August as the Dasnam society elected Ganesh Naresh Puri Maharaj as the mahant. However, when the process of deciding the new successor on the seat of the mahant of Mehandipur Balaji (Shri Hanumanji) Temple was still going on the Gehlot government issued a takeover notice on account of “mismanagement” in the temple.

After the takeover notice was issued, the stakeholders were asked to submit their suggestions, latest by 17 August, for the constitution of a ‘management committee’. But this hostile takeover this sacred Hanuman temple will not be an easy task for the Congress because senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  Arun Chaturvedi who was the former president in the state unit along with former minister Kalicharan Saraf and Golma Devi have reached out to Nareshpuri Maharaj and assured complete support and have made it clear that the BJP will fiercely oppose this move of the state government, reports Dainik Jagran.

Umashankar Sharma who is a central minister called this arbitrary move a big “conspiracy” of the state government. Representatives of the Goswami community have been the mahants of Mehandipur Balaji Temple for hundreds of years have called the take over of the temple by the Congress government as unnecessarily and illegally interfering in temple affairs.
