EU member states recommend travel restrictions on US tourists, fear Delta variant could spread

As the number of Covid-19 cases is on the rise in the United States, the European Union on Monday (August 30) has recommended that its 27 nations reinstate restrictions on tourists from the U.S, however, member countries will keep the option of allowing fully vaccinated U.S. travelers in.

This decision by the European Council to remove the U.S. from a safe list of countries for nonessential travel states the obvious of the situation in the States.

The EU’s decision is based on sound logic that the rampant spread of the virus in the U.S. could spread to Europe driven by the more contagious delta variant.

The guidance issued on Monday is, however, nonbinding because 15 million Americans each year travel to Europe before the coronavirus crisis, and travel restrictions have cost European businesses billions in revenues, especially in tourism-reliant countries.

“Nonessential travel to the EU from countries or entities not listed (on the safe list) … is subject to temporary travel restriction,” the council said in a statement. “This is without prejudice to the possibility for member states to lift the temporary restriction on nonessential travel to the EU for fully vaccinated travelers.”

U.S. travelers would have to be immunized with vaccines approved by the bloc, which includes Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson&Johnso and U.S. travelers could also face quarantines.

It must also be noted that the United States is yet to reopen its own borders to EU tourists, despite calls from the bloc but it is also averaging more than 155,000 new coronavirus cases and 1,200 deaths per day with several U.S. states running out of oxygen supply.

Also, hospitals are seeking extra refrigerated trucks because morgues are at full capacity in states like Florida what is more alarming is that hospitals are running out of staff in several states and to further compound the crisis there is massive “vaccine hesitancy” in the US.

DMK Govt lets TASMACs and cinema theatres to be open on all days, temples to remain closed for devotees on weekends

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday (August 30) announced that the lockdown would be extended in the state till September 15.

According to the latest guidelines, beaches would remain closed on Sundays and no public access to places of worship would be allowed on Fridays and weekends.

The government has also banned processions and installation of Vinayagar idols at public places for Vinayaga Chathurthi. Individuals will be allowed to immerse Ganesh idols in the sea but no procession would be allowed in the state in a bid to restrict large public gatherings.

The month also sees Christians celebrating the annual 11-day festival at the Annai Velankanni marking the Mother Mary’s birth anniversary on September 8. For this, the government has requested devotees not to congregate at the Besant Nagar church on Sunday (August 29) the first day of the festival with the hoisting of the church flag, nor for the traditional car festival to be held on the 11th day when the idol of Mary is carried through the streets in procession.

However, the government has placed no restrictions on the functioning of TASMAC liquor outlets which sees people swarming like flies on a daily basis with scant regard to COVID-appropriate behaviour. On top of this, the government has also allowed theatres to open with 50% capacity from August 23.

Taliban to allow women to study in universities but no co-ed

The Taliban has made it very clear that women will be allowed to study at the universities but there will be no mixed classes according to the Taliban’s acting minister for higher education Abdul Bani Haqqani yesterday (29 August), reports Hindustan Times.

Haqqani said, “The people of Afghanistan will continue their higher education in the light of Sharia law in safety without being in a mixed male and female environment.”

Haqqani further said that the Taliban wants to “create a reasonable and Islamic curriculum that is in line with our Islamic, national and historical values and, on the other hand, be able to compete with other countries”.

During a press conference, when the question was asked with regards to having female parliamentarians, the Taliban said, “that this would be a matter for the leadership to decide and he could not anticipate what their decision would be,”.

The other important issue at hand is that if the Taliban would allow women to work and to get educated at all levels because when the Taliban was in power from 1996 to 2001, it had banned women from education.

Head of Taliban political office calls India “important country”, wants Chabahar port operational

The head of the Taliban political office, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai has called India an “important country”, and called for maintaining good diplomatic and economic ties with New Delhi, reports WION.

Stanikzai said, “India is a very important country in the subcontinent. We want to continue our economic and diplomatic relations with them. Our business is linked with India through Pakistan, and we want to keep that connectivity opened.”

But the two statements that will cause the most discomfort for Pakistan is when Stanikzai said that the air freight corridor agreement which was established in 2017 to promote bilateral ties between Kabul and New Delhi bypassing Pakistan would remain open.

The second point Stanikzai made was the extension of support for the strategically located Chabahar port in neighbouring Iran which has been built by India and he said, “there will be no barriers towards for trading through the port”. India had built this port so goods can travel from Chabahar by rail to Zahedan in Iran to Zaranj in Afghanistan.

Stanikzai also added, “We give due importance to our political, economic, and trade ties with India and we want these ties to continue. We are looking forward to working with India in this regard. We want these relations to continue.”

First commercial batch of COVAXIN manufactured in Gujarat’s Ankleshwar

Two good news await for India – first is that the production of Covaxin has started from its Chiron Behring Vaccines facility in Gujarat’s Ankleshwar, and second, ICMR data has shown tht a single dose of Covaxin on people recovered from Covid-19 is as effective as two doses administered to uninfected individuals. However, these are preliminary findings and that it needs to be corroborated with larger units of data.

Covaxin which is the nation’s first indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech will now begin to roll out and the first commercial batch was launched by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya, reports Times of India.

The new facility was built in Gujarat in 2020, and supplies will now begin from the Chiron Behring Vaccines facility in September. However, the production had already begun there in early June, before the team from Bharat Biotech had executed engineering batches to study the equipment functionality at the facility.

As per a report published by the Economic Times, “This study offers evidence in support of public health-oriented and immunologically sustained vaccine strategies,” the study published by ICMR reads.

It added, “If our preliminary findings are confirmed in large population studies, a single dose of BBV152 vaccine may be recommended to previously confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals so that the naïve individuals could attain the larger benefit of a limited vaccine supply.”

Covaxin was jointly developed by Dr Krishna Ella-led Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the Pune-based National Institute of Virology.

Mother of fallen US soldier calls Biden “dementia-ridden piece of crap”

As the United States Air Force brought the remains of 13 fallen service members who were killed in the Kabul airport attack to be buried with honor in their final resting place, Kathy McCollum, mother Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum, 20 called President Joe Biden a “dementia-ridden piece of crap”, reports dailymail.

President Joe Biden is all set to meet with the families of the 13 fallen service members on Sunday but before that meeting, an inconsolable Kathy McCollum said in a radio interview said, “My son was one of the Marines that died yesterday.'[He was] getting ready to come home from freaking Jordan to be with his wife to watch the birth of his son,’ McCollum said. ‘And that feckless, dementia-ridden piece of crap just sent my son to die.’

Kathy said that she was awakened at four o’clock with Marines on her door telling her son was dead as she gave an emotional account.

President Biden flew to Delaware on Sunday morning for a ceremony to honor the service members killed by an ISIS-K suicide bomber. He could be seen holding his right hand to his chest, as the flag-draped bodies of service members were flown in from Kabul in C-17 Globemaster plane.

The 13 killed on Thursday were Navy corpsman Max Soviak, Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Knauss, and Marines Hunter Lopez, Rylee McCollum, David Lee Espinoza, Kareem Nikoui, Jared Schmitz, Daegan Page, Taylor Hoover, Humberto Sanchez, Johanny Rosario, Dylan Merola and Nicole Gee.

The mother of the fallen marine Rylee McCollum was very generous with her words for President Biden and the democratic party when she said, “My son is gone, and I just want all you Democrats who cheated in the election, or who voted for him legitimately, you just killed my son with dementia ridden piece of crap who doesn’t even know he’s in the White House who still thinks he’s a senator,”.

The death toll was the highest for any single incident since 2011 and Biden has been accused by some of the troops’ families of putting them in harm’s way.

In a statement on Saturday, Biden said, ‘The 13 service members that we lost were heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our highest American ideals and while saving the lives of others. Their bravery and selflessness has enabled more than 117,000 people at risk to reach safety thus far. May God protect our troops and all those standing watch in these dangerous days,”.

TNM has a meltdown over Rudra Thandavam trailer, calls it propaganda film promoting caste pride

The trailer of Mohan G Kshatriyan’s latest film ‘Rudra Thandavam’ was released on August 24 following the release of the film’s poster.

Actor Richard Rishi, a constant in Mohan’s ventures, plays the lead character of Rudra Prabhakaran, a police officer dealing with drug trafficking. Gautham Vasudev Menon, who has of late been donning the actor’s hat, seems to be the lead antagonist playing the role of an ‘aandolan jeevi’ Communist leader.

The story seems to revolve around a dutiful police officer who gets slapped with a false case under Protection of Civil Rights Act (PCR Act) and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act (shortened as SC/ST Atrocities Act) for taking action against an accused involved in drug crime. It also touches around the larger subject of rampant illegal religious conversion among Scheduled Castes as Radha Ravi, who seems to be playing the role of a public prosecutor, mentions in the trailer that the PCR Act does not apply to those who get converted to Christianity.

This premise of the film seems to have upset the proselytizing cabal along with certain section of the media and film industry.

Just days after the trailer released, The News Minute published an article in which it called the film a ‘new age propaganda film promoting caste pride’. It mentions how Tamil cinema had for long made films Thevar Magan and Chinna Gounder promoting caste pride and that it was now with the films of Pa Ranjith and Mari Selvaraj in the recent years that mainstream Tamil cinema saw a welcome change.

It said that these films by Dalit directors told stories of assertion, systemic injustice, and strength. While this may be true of Mari Selvaraj’s two films – Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan, Pa. Ranjith is known for infusing problematic propaganda in his films. In his film Attakathi, one character asks the protagonist (a dalit) to ‘finish the matter’ (make the woman have sex) before marriage, of the girl he is in love with (a non-Dalit). Kaala starring Rajinikanth was nothing but anti-Hindu vomit which is glorified by far-left intellectuals and academia. In the recent Sarpatta Parambarai, Pa. Ranjith had peddled a narrative favourable to the DMK while demeaning the actual contributions made by Dr. M. G. Ramachandra to boxing.

The author of The News Minute article claims that the dominant castes find it hard to stomach these films while it in fact seems to be the other way around. When Mohan G Kshatriyan’s ‘Draupathi’ was released last year, it received rave response from the public as it spoke about the unspoken issue of ‘naadaga kaadhal‘ (deliberate trapping of women of other castes by Dalit youth by luring them into relationships), an equivalent to the ‘love-jihad’ in northern part of the country. However, The News Minute back then had published an article demeaning the movie as a ‘vile casteist film‘ while it just shows the other side of the issue. Anybody familiar with the case of 17-year-old Naveena from Vizhupuram would understand that the issue cannot be viewed in binary terms where the victim is always from one community as portrayed by the Tamil Nadu mainstream media.

Now it is again the same bunch of self-anointed guardians of Scheduled Caste people and torchbearers of free speech who are suffering a meltdown and trying to run down on Rudra Thandavam even before its release.

Mohan G Kshatriyan this time seems to have hit the raw nerve of people who act as catalysts for illegal religious conversions.
