Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has criticized the ruling DMK government for its failure to release the final list of candidates who passed the Police Sub-Inspector (SI) exams, despite the selection process having been completed over four months ago. He questioned why the government hesitates to publish the full details of the successful candidates, especially when the Madras High Court has repeatedly insisted on its release. Annamalai has also demanded an immediate publication of the final list and the issuance of work orders for the selected candidates.
In a statement, Annamalai highlighted that many youths who were initially selected and later removed from the list have raised concerns over irregularities and confusion in the issuing of work orders for the Tamil Nadu Police Sub-Inspector for the year 2023.
The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board announced the vacancies for the Police Sub-Inspectors’ posts on 5 May 2023. A total of 1,86,610 applicants competed for 469 male and 152 female vacancies, along with 6,101 applicants for the reserved seats for police personnel and their dependents. The written examination was held on 27 August 2023, with results published by 26 September 2023. The fitness tests for successful candidates took place from 7 to 10 November 2023, and interviews were conducted between 19 December 2023, and 10 January 2024.
The first list of successful candidates was published on 29 January 2024, with fitness tests, fingerprinting, and other procedures carried out from 10 to 15 February 2024. Educational and conduct certificate verifications followed from 25 February to 5 March 2024.
A legal case filed on 24 April 2024, in the Madras High Court questioned whether the reservation guidelines had been properly followed in the Sub-Inspector exam process. The court ruled on 21 June 2024, that proper reservation should be maintained, prompting an additional 370 candidates to undergo fitness tests and 202 to participate in interviews. Based on this, a second final list was published on 3 October 2024, but it excluded 41 candidates from the previous list without proper explanation.
While the first final list published on 29 January 2024, provided full transparency, including written test scores, interview scores, and social category information, the second list published on 3 October 2024, only included registration numbers, lacking clarity on the basis of the revised selection. This led to confusion and concerns from the 41 candidates who were removed without any explanation.
The matter was again brought to the Madras High Court, which ruled on 28 October 2024, that the final list should include full details such as candidates’ names, birth dates, marks, and social category. The court also ordered that the revised list be suspended until the full details are published.
Despite this clear directive from the court, the DMK government has still not released the final list with the complete details after nearly four months. Annamalai accused the government of causing unnecessary delays and questioned whether the future of these hardworking youths was being treated as a political game. He stressed the urgency of releasing the final list without any further delays and issuing work orders to the qualified candidates based on the court’s decision. Annamalai concluded by urging the DMK government to avoid such delays in future recruitment processes, ensuring that the dreams of the youth who aspire to join the police force are not shattered.
TN BJP Chief, Annamalai, via his official X account, stated, “The final list of those who have passed the examination for Police Sub-Inspectors should be published and their work orders should be issued immediately. In the last year, 2023, there were various confusions and irregularities in the issuance of appointment orders for Tamil Nadu Police Sub-Inspectors, who were selected in the final list and later removed from it. Youth alleges that, on 5 May 2023, the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board announced the vacancies for the posts of Sub-Inspectors of Police. Accordingly, a total of 1,86,610 youths had applied for the 469 vacant posts for men, 1,45,709 for the 152 vacant posts for women, 40,901 for the 152 vacant posts. 6,101 people had applied for the posts reserved for police officers and police heirs. Further, 20% of the candidates were selected for the post. Following this, the written examination for these posts was held on 26 and 27 August 2023, and the written examination results were published on 26 September 2023. The fitness test for those who passed this written test was held from 07 September 2023 to 10 September 2023, and the interview for those who passed it was held from 19 December 2023 to 10 January 2024. The list of successful candidates in the interview was published on the website of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board on 29 January 2024, and their fitness test, fingerprinting, etc. were held from 10 February 2024 to 15 February 2024. Further, the verification of their educational certificates and conduct certificates was held from 25 February 2024 to 05 March 2024. Meanwhile, a case was filed in the Hon’ble Madras High Court on 24 April 2024 alleging that the reservation was not followed properly in the examination for the posts of Sub-Inspector. The Hon’ble Madras High Court ruled on 21 June 2024 to follow the reservation in this case. Based on the High Court’s decision, an additional 370 candidates were examined on 08 July 2024 for fitness test and 202 of them were interviewed from 05 September 2024 to 08 September 2024 and a second final list of candidates was published on 03 October 2024. In this list, the names of 41 candidates from the first published final list were deleted. In the first final list published on 29 January 2024, the written test score, interview score, special score for departmental candidates, date of birth, social category to which they belong, etc. were clearly mentioned. Thus, the results of this examination were transparent. However, in the revised final list published on 03 October 2024, only the registration number of the examinees was mentioned. There was no transparency on the basis on which this list was published. As a result, 41 youths who were selected in the first list and removed from the revised list were affected without getting a proper explanation.”
“Following this, in a case filed in the Hon’ble Madras High Court seeking the publication of the full details of those selected in the final list, on 28 October 2024, the Hon’ble Madras High Court ruled that 15 details including the names, date of birth, marks, and social category of those who qualified for the post of Police Assistant Inspectors should be published in the final list and that the revised final list already published would be suspended until then. However, after about four months, the final list containing the full details of those who qualified has not been published till date. Why is the DMK government reluctant to release the final list of candidates with full details for the youth who have been preparing for police service for about two years, passed all the qualifying exams and are waiting to get their work orders, despite the insistence of the Hon’ble Madras High Court? There are reports of many irregularities in government services examinations. Police services are no exception, as is evident from the DMK government’s delay in releasing the final list of those who have passed the Assistant Inspectors examination. Has the future of the youth, who have worked hard and are waiting for police jobs, become a game for the DMK government? The DMK government’s unnecessary delay cannot allow the youth’s dream of becoming a police officer to be shattered. Without further delay, the final list of those who have passed the Police Assistant Inspectors examination should be published immediately based on the decision of the Hon’ble Madras High Court and work orders should be issued to them. I urge the DMK government to continue this practice in the future as well.”
