There has been yet another attempt to loot a temple hundi in Namakkal. A group of alleged looters were arrested by devotees and handed over to the local Police in Elachipalayam, Namakkal, as they were caught red handed, trying to rob money and jewellery.
2 young men have broken the Ilupuliyal Temple hundi in Elachipalayam, Namakkal, and have tried to steal money and jewellery from it. The locals heard the sound of breaking a lock early in the morning at 4 am and went to the temple only to find the two breaking the Hundi, in an attempt to loot. Even as they tried to escape on seeing the locals, they nabbed the alleged thieves and handed them over to the police.
On police enquiry the two were identified as Manikandan and Karthik from Tiruchengode, who work as masons. The Police officers retrieved the ₹1000 that they had stolen from the temple Hundi and returned it back to the temple administration.
Similarly, mysterious persons had broken a temple Hundi at a Mariamman temple in Marudur, South Patti village, near Ariyalur and stole money and jewellery from the Hundi. Based on the complaint lodged by the Temple priest, the Police are trying to find those behind the robbery of temple money and jewellery. Devotees have requested that CCTV cameras be installed in all temple to safeguard the idols, money and jewellery.
