Assam Elections 2021: 72.46 per cent voter turnout in first phase

Polling for forty-seven seats in the first phase of the Assam assembly elections ended on Saturday with a voter turnout of 72.46 as of 6.52 PM, reports ANI.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Rupohihat Constituency witnessed the highest voter turnout at 83 per cent, while Sootea constituency recorded the lowest voting percentage at 64 per cent.

District-wise, Bokakhat district reported the highest voter turnout at 80 per cent, while Nazira recorded the lowest turnout at 64 per cent.

Polling had begun at 7 AM in the morning. Over 81.09 lakh voters are eligible to cast their vote in the first phase. 264 candidates are standing for elections for 47 seats in this phase.

Polling for the next two phases will be held on April 1 and April 6. The votes will be counted on May 2.
