Sumanth Raman — the alleged doctor, television panelist, former quiz master, and a prominent X commentator on all things under the sun has called journalist Palki Sharma a “fake news peddler.” The irony, however, lies in his own track record of spreading misinformation and half-truths while acting as a passionate defender of the Congress Party.
Raman recently attacked Palki Sharma alongside media outlets for allegedly spreading false stories related to the invitation of Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir to a US Army Day parade in Washington, DC. The White House, meanwhile, made it clear that no such invitation was ever extended — a claim previously peddled by several media platforms, and amplified by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
Ramesh, in a lengthy post on X, alleged that Munir’s invitation represented a diplomatic setback for India — a view that fell flat after the White House debunked the reports. The incident triggered a backlash, with many questioning the credibility of the Congress Party and its media allies.
Sumanth Raman, meanwhile, jumped into the fray by criticizing journalist Palki Sharma and calling her a peddler of fake news — ignoring his own extensive history of spreading misinformation.
Quoting another fake news peddler and alleged fact checker, Mohammad Zubair, Raman wrote, “This lady is a serial fake news peddler and propagandist. That she has such a large audience is more a reflection on us as a society.”

Targeting Palki Sharma
Whether he was jealous of her “large following” is something only he can answer. This is not the first time Raman derided journalist Palki Sharma.
In April 2024, a video of Palki Sharma was making the rounds for quite some time. In the video, she speaks about the Mahabharatha where she pinpoints the Pandavas for doing the wrong things and still remained the good guys in the end. While Palki Sharma may have a skewed opinion/understanding of the Mahabharatha, the focus of this video is on Sumanth Raman. He quoted the video and wrote, “This lady’s videos are taken as gospel truth on Whatsapp Groups”

A speech given by Palki about a year back, probably in 2023, had also gone viral on social media and that was probably why Raman was quoting her Mahabharatha video. In the other video, Palki spoke about how India had developed and progressed under the Narendra Modi government, and she gave a few anecdotes as examples to support her arguments.
Instead of countering her with facts, Sumanth Raman whose now-favourite app “WhatsApp” seems to be featured in every post he makes, derided Palki for that Mahabharatha video clip by calling her “this lady” and accuses her videos of making the rounds on WhatsApp.
Ironically, he speaks about gospel truth because the videos and information he shares on social media platform X are from the very same propaganda peddlers such as Dhruv Rathee.
He shared a 2-minute video of Rathee where he talks about how WhatsApp was being used by political parties (indicating the BJP) to “brainwash” the masses. Sumanth wrote, “Summary of the last decade in 2 minutes. Watch.”

Peddling Fake News
As mentioned above, Raman has quite the history of peddling and amplifying fake news. Let’s take a look.
In March 2023, Sumanth Raman posted fake news about the NPCI charging a fee for UPI transactions. He even conducted a poll on the topic on his Twitter handle without even confirming the veracity of the news. He later deleted the post.
OK. Deleting this poll. Apparently it is only for transactions through wallets and credit cards and not for bank debits. https://t.co/sVUmD7J3rr

In February 2024, Sumanth Raman jumped onto the bandwagon to peddle fake news. In a post on Uttarakhand being the first state in the country to implement UCC, he wrote, “Goa has had a UCC for decades but never mind facts.” forgetting the most crucial fact that Goa got the UCC under Portuguese rule.

In July 2023, Sumanth Raman made the following post without understanding the context of Governor Ravi’s speech, which was misconstrued as always by the local media, political commentators, and members of the DMK party and government, saying that the Governor is accusing the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister of going on foreign trips just for leisure. Sumanth’s post seemed to follow the narrative set by the DMK members.
Governor commenting derisively on a CM's foreign visit is just not done. This Govt will do well to ignore the man but they keep playing blow hot-blow cold with him.

In 2020, an X handle named Rofl Republic posted a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that a conference hall was converted into a ward with Army men “to facilitate PM’s photoshoot”. It even said that the Army men “posed like injured patients”. This post was also quote-posted by Sumanth Raman, along with several DMK mouthpieces.
The controversy began with journalist Aravindakshan B R peddling false and unsubstantiated stories alleging collusion between the Ministry of External Affairs, Annamalai, and Times of India to aid the BJP’s electoral strategy in Tamil Nadu. Aravindakshan falsely claimed a conspiracy, forged documents, and wrongdoing by the MEA — even stating that a non-existing official, Ajay Jain, was involved. His unfounded narrative fell apart under scrutiny, yet Sumanth Raman, amplified these misinformation-laced messages alongside DMK MP P Wilson. This episode exposed a concerted attempt to mislead the public for political gain.
It’s no secret that Sumanth Raman is a Congress simp; he would hardly dare question the party and its leaders, who originally amplified the misinformation.
