According to Dhruv Rathee, Venice is in France; tries to save face citing context and flaunting elitist privilege

Social media personality and popular vlogger Dhruv Rathee who portrays himself like a polymath through his Youtube videos and podcasts, has once again embarrassed himself while expressing his opinion.

Trying to make a comment on the French secularism (where the state and the religion are strictly separated and no holds barred on free speech), Dhruv tweeted a picture of a nun on a wall made of smaller pictures of women in undergarments showing their posterior, and said that the portrait which was just a 100 metres from a Church in ‘Venice’ showed the extent to which ‘French secularism’ allows blasphemy and free speech.

However, Venice is a famous city located in Italy and not France.

While historically the city has been part of the French rule, the city is now several hundreds of kilometres from the French border.

Soon after netizens pointed out to the blatant error, Dhruv Rathee tried to save face by saying ‘oversmart people’ failed to get the ‘context’ while flaunting his elitist privilege.

Earlier, Dhruv Rathee had said that India was not partitioned on religious lines. He had also mocked later former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar when he was affected by cancer.

He had also put false claims about Adani group and later deleted the tweet fearing defamation case. He was also caught peddling fake audio that claimed that the Pulwama attack was an inside job.
