How Sun News Has Been Personally Targeting Vijay

On 5 March 2026, Vijay and Trisha attended a film producer Kalpathi family wedding reception in Chennai – arriving together, posing together, and leaving together. This was their first public appearance together since Vijay’s wife Sangeetha filed a divorce petition that was reportedly leaked a few days ago, alleging he maintained an “open association” with a female actor. Though Trisha was never named in the petition, Sun News immediately connected the dots.

The social media handles of the DMK mouthpiece seemed hell-bent on portraying the actor-turned-politician negatively given his relevance in today’s political scenario.

As soon as the news of the duo arriving at the wedding reception hit the headlines, Sun News posted at least 7 posts targeting Vijay.

Here are the posts.

The first one read, “Actors Vijay – Trisha attend wedding ceremony together”

The subsequent one said, “Actors Vijay and Trisha attend wedding ceremony dressed in the same color”

The next one said, “Actor Vijay attends a public event with actress Trisha in the same car, wearing the same color outfit!”

The next one said, “Vijay’s fans themselves oppose his actions!”

The next one said, “Coming together as a couple, Vijay-Trisha congratulate couple and bless them to live happily together.”

These posts ended late night on 5 March 2026.

On 6 March 2026, in the morning, Sun News again started virtue signalling Vijay. They shared a video clipping from one of his old speeches as a TVK chief where he talked about one’s character and its importance.

In the video he had said, “There are a few very beautiful lines about character. When wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, something is lost. When character is lost, everything is lost.”

Sun News had captioned this video, “Beautiful lines about ‘Character’..! Vijay’s advice goes viral”

It is noteworthy that a few days ago after his Thanjavur speech which referenced Vijay’s election promise made during the event, Sun News shared a post captioned, “Separate Weighers for Men and Women in Ration Shops” -Vijay’s Election Promise”

In his speech, Vijay said that if his party came to power, ration shops would appoint separate women weighers for women and separate men weighers for men, describing it as a measure aimed at ensuring dignity and comfort for women accessing the public distribution system.

However, instead of using a neutral visual such as a ration shop or public distribution outlet, the channel accompanied the post with a film still showing a traditionally dressed Brahmin woman standing at a shop counter opposite Vijay.

The use of a Brahmin woman’s image in this context appears to be a deliberate editorial choice meant to mock the promise. The image carries clear caste markers associated with Brahmin identity, including traditional attire and styling commonly used in Tamil cinema to portray Brahmin characters.

Sun News, the DMK’s mouthpiece, didn’t waste a minute. Seven posts in rapid succession. “Same colour clothes.” “Same car.” “Came as a couple.” The repetition appeared designed less to report an event than to manufacture a narrative. What someone does in their personal life is not the concern of third parties 0 a standard that seemed conveniently forgotten here. After all, where was this moral scrutiny when M. Karunanidhi was alive and openly had multiple wives?

The morning after, they twisted the knife further, posting Vijay’s own speech on “character” with a smug #FreeAdvice hashtag.

This is not journalism. This is a DMK-owned channel running a political hit job on its party’s biggest electoral threat, dressed up as breaking news.
