TVK Head Joseph Vijay’s Estranged Wife Accuses Him Of Having Secret Affair With Actress And Subjecting Her To Mental Torture; Full Details Here

In a development that has sent shockwaves through Tamil cinema and political circles, Sangeetha Sornalingam (also referred to as Sankgeetha Vijay), the wife of actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Joseph Vijay Chandrasekar, has filed a petition seeking divorce after nearly 27 years of marriage.

The petition was filed on December 3, 2025, in the District Court at Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, under Sections 27(1)(a), (b), and (d) read with Sections 36 and 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. It seeks dissolution of the marriage on grounds of adultery, mental cruelty, neglect, constructive desertion, and claims the marriage has broken down irretrievably, surviving “only on paper.”

Marriage And Family Background

The couple’s marriage was first legally registered on July 10, 1998, in the United Kingdom. A ceremonial wedding followed on August 25, 1999, at Rajah Muthiah Mandram in Egmore, Chennai, conducted according to Hindu customs and rites.

Sangeetha, 48, a UK citizen with a B.Sc. in Biomedical Science from London, devoted herself to family life after marriage. Vijay, 51, son of filmmaker S.A. Chandrasekar and playback singer Shobha Chandrasekar, rose to become one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars and entered politics in 2024 by founding TVK.The couple has two children: son Jason Sanjay (born July 25, 2000, aged 25) and daughter Dhivya Sasha (born September 9, 2005, aged 20).

According to the petition, the early years were harmonious. Vijay provided a comfortable lifestyle, and the family enjoyed vacations abroad, attended film events together, and maintained a cordial relationship despite occasional challenges.

Allegations Of Breakdown

The petition alleges the marital issues escalated in April 2021, when Sangeetha discovered Vijay’s involvement in an extramarital (adulterous) relationship with an actress. This caused her “deep emotional pain,” betrayal, and severe mental suffering.

She claims Vijay initially promised to end the relationship but continued it “without remorse,” leading to prolonged mental cruelty. Between September 2021 and February 2022, legal notices were exchanged in attempts at amicable resolution, but no agreement was reached—partly to protect the children’s studies and emotional well-being.

Sangeetha accuses Vijay of emotional and physical withdrawal since 2021, including neglecting conjugal relations, excluding her from social and professional circles, and imposing financial restrictions. She describes living in “constructive desertion” within the matrimonial home at Neelankarai, Chennai.

The petition highlights public humiliation from the actress’s social media posts featuring outings with Vijay (which he allegedly did not deny or object to), causing embarrassment to her and the children. Sangeetha reserves the right to implead the actress as a second respondent if needed and has offered to produce evidence, including social media posts, legal correspondences, and other documents.

Further attempts at settlement—including legal notices from August 2024 to February 2025 and personal discussions (the last on November 9, 2025)—failed, with Vijay’s responses allegedly reflecting “financial dominance” and lack of remorse.

Relief Sought

Beyond divorce, Sangeetha requests:Right of residence in the matrimonial home (or equivalent alternative accommodation) until final disposal.

Permanent alimony commensurate with Vijay’s income and status as a top actor and political figure.
Costs of the proceedings.

An in-camera trial to protect privacy and dignity.
An interim injunction restraining media and social platforms from discussing or publishing details of the proceedings under Section 33(1) of the Act.

She paid a court fee of Rs. 50 and filed supporting documents, including the UK marriage registration certificate, wedding invitation, marriage photos, and her Aadhaar card.

Current Status And Reactions

The petition surfaced publicly on February 27, 2026, sparking widespread media coverage. The court has reportedly summoned Vijay to appear on April 20, 2026 (some reports mention April 10 for initial listing). No public response from Vijay has been reported yet. The matter remains sub judice, and details could evolve during hearings.
