Young Sri Lankan Tamil Student Killed In Drunken Road Rage Reportedly By DMK-Flagged Car

In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage, an 18-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil girl named Yancy was killed after a group of drunk youths allegedly chased and deliberately rammed her two-wheeler with a luxury car bearing a DMK party flag.

Yancy, who had just completed her Class 12 board exams and was out with friends at a nightclub in Vadapalani on Saturday night. A violent brawl erupted on the dance floor between Yancy’s friends and a group led by Balaguru, leading to both groups being ejected from the venue.

Yancy’s friends reportedly flung stones at Balaguru’s friend Suman Sakthivel’s car window and fled on a scooter. The luxury car reportedly bearing DMK flag chased them down and crashed into the two-wheeler on which Yancy was riding, near Koyambedu.

Yancy suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead late Saturday night. Her 17-year-old friend, who was riding pillion, remains in critical condition in a hospital.

Police acted swiftly on the basis of CCTV footage and arrested seven suspects by Sunday morning. According to sources, the accused were under the influence of alcohol. Unverified claims circulating widely on social media allege that the car involved displayed a DMK party flag, linking the perpetrators to a political youth wing. One of the arrested individuals has been identified as Balaguru from Salem, while police are still searching for the main driver, Suman Sakthivel.

The incident has triggered massive public anger, with many questioning how minors were allegedly served alcohol at the nightclub. Demands have grown for the immediate cancellation of the bar’s license and a thorough investigation into underage drinking and nightlife safety in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu Police have registered a case of murder and are investigating the exact sequence of events, including the role of alcohol and any political connections. Senior officers have assured that no one will be spared, irrespective of influence.

The victim’s mother lamented at the loss of her daughter and has demanded capital punishment for the accused.
