A woman delivered a baby boy mid-air while flying on the Delhi-Bengaluru Indigo flight on Wednesday evening. Assisted by a lady doctor in the aircraft, the IndiGo crew ensured that the extremely rare in-flight delivery ended on a happy, healthy note for both baby and mother.
An hour after the flight, 6E 122, took off from Delhi, the woman passenger had experienced labour pain. Fortunately, the flight crew acted fast and arranged a mini-hospital ward inside the flight.
An announcement followed as per protocol and a lady doctor onboard volunteered to help. Tension gripped the cabin, but at about 6.10 pm, the baby’s cries spread a wave of joy and relief throughout the aircraft. Passengers thanked the crew and the fortunate presence of the doctor. The flight attendants led by Shradha Chauhan and her team, Anupriya, Tripti and Ankita, the crew were praised for being vigilant and extremely mindful of the entire situation. An IndiGo insider added, “Kudos for such presence of mind and great work.”
Several photos and videos from the IndiGo flight showing the crew and passengers applauding the woman and her baby are now doing the rounds on social media. In one such video, IndiGo ground staff and other crew members can be seen standing on the porch and applauding as others assist the woman and her newborn baby in deplaning. Photos and videos of the woman and her baby were clicked along with the crew and pilot who helped her in the process.
IndiGo announced that the baby will receive lifelong free travel in its flights.
