Woman abused by husband’s family to pay dowry sends distress call on Twitter, BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan comes to the rescue

A married woman from Coimbatore took to Twitter to seek help as she was facing harassment from her husband’s family to pay dowry.

According to her tweets, Bhavya Darshini fell in love with Joseph and married him 5 years ago. They have a 4 year old boy and the woman is currently 2 months into her second pregnancy. She mentioned that her widowed mother sent money regularly to support her.

Since the time they got married her husband’s family kept forcing her to get dowry from her parents. She said that  her husband’s family is now asking for cash and 100 sovereigns of gold which they are not in a position to afford.

Her tweets further said that her in-laws are not permitting her son to stay with her. The woman said that she is in a situation where she has to either commit suicide or sign the divorce. She also added that her in-laws are resorting to character shaming her.

Not able to bear the abuse, Bhavya had gone to file a complaint at the Puliakulam All Women Police Station. However, she claimed that there was no proper response and that she did not receive the CSR from the Police.

Responding to the woman’s SOS, BJP National Women’s Wing President Vanathi Srinivasan, replied to her tweet asking her not to worry and to contact the local BJP office bearer.

The police looked into the matter and the Puliakulam Police Station Inspector Amutha reached out to her and have assured to take proper action.

Bhavya later took to Twitter again to thank everyone including Vanathi Srinivasan and the local BJP leader Satheesh for helping her.
