“Will not appear before any committee”, say protesting ‘farmers’ in Delhi

The protesting ‘farmers’ at the borders of the national capital have categorically stated that the committee set up by the Supreme Court to study the agricultural laws introduced by the central government comprises of persons who could be in favor of agricultural laws and hence will not appear before the committee.

‘Farmers’ have been protesting on the borders of Delhi for more than 40 days against the farm laws introduced by the central government. The Supreme Court, which heard petitions filed against the laws ordered an interim stay in  enforcing the laws. In addition, the Supreme Court set up a four-member panel to address concerns, issues and resolve issues related to the laws.

The panel comprises Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Bhupender Singh Mann, Shetkeri Sangatana (Maharashtra) leader Anil Konwad, Pramod Kumar Joshi, Director of the International Food Policy Research Institute, and Ashok Gulati, an agronomist. The protesting farmers’ union gave a joint press conference where they said that they farmers never asked for the Supreme Court never to form a committee and added that the Central government is behind the move.

They also claimed that the persons in the panel are those who are in favour of the laws. “Our struggle will continue. The Central government is trying to divert our struggle. The tractor rally will take place on the 26th. Let the Supreme Court voluntarily repeal these laws. We will not appear before any group.” they said.
