“Why 2,000 Cops For Terrorist’s Funeral But No Permission For Ram Ratha Yatra?” BJP Leader H Raja Slams TN Govt After Permission Denied For Rama Navami Procession

The Madras High Court has closed a case filed by Indu Makkal Katchi’s Salem District President, Periasamy, seeking permission to conduct the Ram Ratha Yatra in Salem’s Ayodhyapatnam on 6 April 2025, coinciding with Ram Navami.

In his petition, Periasamy detailed the planned route of the yatra, which was to commence from Salem Ayodhyapatnam with special pujas, proceed through Udayapatti Ammappettai roundabout with Deeparathanai programs at Soundararaja Perumal temple, and conclude with a special puja at Sewwaipet Pandurangan temple via Chinnakadai and Periyakadai Road. Despite submitting a request for permission to the Tamil Nadu government and police, he alleged that there had been no response.

During the hearing before Justice Ilanthirayan, Advocate Gopi, representing the police, informed the court that the Assistant Commissioner of Salem Ammapet had denied permission for the yatra on 31 March 2025. Taking note of this, the judge stated that the petitioners could challenge the refusal order through appropriate legal channels and subsequently closed the case.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Convener of the Co-ordination Committee, H. Raja took to social media to criticize the Tamil Nadu government and police over the denial of permission. He accused the state administration of bias against Hindu religious activities. He pointed out that while the police had deployed 2,000 personnel for the funeral procession of Al-Umma Pasha, a convict in the Coimbatore blast case, they had denied permission for the Ram Ratha Yatra. He further stated that the government allowed events such as Happy Street programs, which seem to lead to cultural degradation and drug proliferation, and had permitted protests by Islamic groups, including those in support of the banned PFI organization and the anti-CAA Shaheen Bagh-style demonstrations. H. Raja accused the Dravidian Model government of acting against Hindus while accommodating other groups, asserting that the Tamil Nadu government’s treatment of Hindus as “refugees in their own land” was condemnable. He wrote, “Following the death of Al-Umma Pasha, the Coimbatore blast convict who killed 58 innocent Hindus in a bomb attack in Coimbatore, the Tamil Nadu Police deployed 2000 policemen for security and allowed the funeral procession of Al-Umma Pasha..!!

The Tamil Nadu Police is allowing Happy Street events in major cities of Tamil Nadu that will lead to cultural degradation and the spread of drugs..!! The Tamil Nadu Police has given permission to hold a human chain protest in support of the banned terrorist organization PFI movement throughout the state..!! The Tamil Nadu Police has given permission to Islamic movements to set up tents in the name of Shaheen Bagh in all cities of Tamil Nadu and continue to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act for several days..!! The police and the Tamil Nadu government are denying permission to Ram devotees to hold a Ram Rath Yatra on Ram Navami in Salem and Ayodhyapatnam..!! @mkstalin

Their Dravidian model government, which claims to be a secular government, acts against only Hindus. The anti-Hindu attitude of the Tamil Nadu government, which treats Hindus, the sons of the soil, like refugees, and the anti-Hindu actions of the Tamil Nadu police are strongly condemnable..!!”
