In a strongly-worded statement given by West Bengal, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar yesterday (18 October), to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, that he was giving “last warning” to the establishment, the Hindustan Times reported.
Governor Dhankhar said, “I want to tell the Chief Minister to follow the Constitution. I am here to protect it. They are playing with fire. They (bureaucrats and police) cannot be political workers and shall not be allowed to be political workers. Those who are sleeping like Kumbhakarna have no idea that there is something called destiny.”
There has been a spate of killing of BJP workers in the state and this warning has come after Governor Dhankhar had met with the brother of Madan Ghorai, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker who died on 13 October while in judicial custody of the State Police.
BJP has alleged that Ghorai died because of torture he had to endure when he was in the police custody.
Without mincing any words, Governor Dhankhar said, “Do not think that you can stop the governor by trolling him. This is the last warning. If rule of law is not established be ready to face the music.”
Immeadetely CM Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s spokesperson Saugata Roy said that Governor Dhankhar is ‘rude’ and was “crossing his limits.” He added, “If someone has died in custody, then the court and the administration is there to look into it and take steps.”
Home Minister Amit Shah has already said that the imposition of Presidential rule is justified in West Bengal with the deteriorating law and order situation and the constant targeting and killing of BJP supporters and workers in the state.
