Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways has mentioned that the Ministry is facing lot of problems with respect to implementing projects in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at a virtual even hosted by Business Line, Minister Gadkari said that there are problems in getting aggregates, materials and forest clearances and other bureacratic procedures.
“Particularly in Tamil Nadu, we’re facing a lot of problem. Our work is stopped.” the Union Minister said adding that he has already requested the Chief Minister of the state to resolve the issues.
He said that the Ministry is not even getting the different types of aggregates that are required for the construction of roads and further added that getting permission in the state is very difficult.
“Somewhere it is part of the bureacracy system. They never get us the permission and that is why the works are stopped. I’ve already requested the Chief Minister, Minister and even the Chief Secreatary.”, Minister Gadkari said.
He also added that if there is cooperation from the state side, the Centre is ready to implement ₹1000 crore worth projects in Tamil Nadu.
Minister Gadkari also mentioned how the Ministry has sanctioned to lay lot of roads in other states like Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“In Kerala, we’ve lot of problems with land acquisition. But Kerala Chief Minister is very very proactive and he is taking lot of decisions and helping us. We’re now giving lot of projects to Kerala”, Minister Gadkari said.
“Through (sic) this programe, I am again requesting Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Please take a review of all projects and cooperate with us. There is no money shortage. We’re ready to give ₹1000 crore to Tamil Nadu and develop all types of road projects. I don’t have any problem.”, Minister Gadkari further added.
He mentioned that he is also working on building a 2 level flyover from Chennai Port to Maduravoyal to resolve the traffic problem in the city.

“Somewhere we need some cooperation from state government. Without that, we cannot do it. I am not talking politically. But I will request you people, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ministers, and MPs, to look into it. When the Central Government is ready to give road projects, let us resolve the small issues. 100% we will change the total infrastructure of Tamil Nadu.”, the Minister said.
BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai appealed to CM Stalin saying that this is the second such appeal that has come from the Ministry and action should be taken to give speedy clearance to projects in Tamil Nadu.
