“We Don’t Want Tourism, We Don’t Want Progress”: Congress Member Sheikh Amir Bats For Namaaz & Azaan Over Tourism & Development

Following the dastardly attack in Pahalgam on innocent tourists in the valley who were majorly Hindus, several news channels, YouTube channels have made their way to Kashmir to cover the local sentiment. In this series of videos that are being circulated on the internet, one video stood out and was hailed by many as the voice of Kashmir.

Speaking to the reporter from Jist channel, he said, “The big claims of the government were repeatedly said, that the atmosphere in Kashmir is pleasant, there is no terrorism anywhere. The slogan of Naya Kashmir, Naya Kashmir, was repeatedly given that now Kashmiris are happy. 370 was repealed. It was said that 370 gives rise to terrorism, 370 gives rise to unemployment, 370 gives rise to dynastic rule. When the Home Minister said this, he promised that unemployment will end, employment will come, terrorism will end, dynastic rule will end. Development will take place. Where did development take place? Smart Smart City was said. So you see this smart city, people are troubled, there is no trade anywhere. Sometimes the opposition, sometimes the Muslims, sometimes the Kashmiris are being blamed. Kashmiris cannot tolerate this. We have tolerated a lot.”

When asked further about 370 abrogation, he said, “Terrorism, unemployment, helplessness. Yes, those problems were there even then. We don’t want tourism. We don’t want progress. I am telling you that Kashmiris don’t want tourism. They don’t want progress. You will attack our azaans. You will say you want tourism. You will attack our namaaz. You are talking about tourism. There was an attack on the hijab. You will talk about tourism.”  

When the point of discussion came to trust, he said, “You are right. This country is not being run by the government. It is being run ‘Allah Bharose’. No, no, there is no government in it. You are right. Democracy. Which democracy? What is democracy? When you say, When you say that the entire economy is a terrorist, Madam. When you say democracy. Democracy is called Jamhooriyat in Urdu. Demos means people. Cracy means rule. That means. Listen to that. Means the rule of the people, whose rule will it be, it will be of the people, do you feel that this is the rule of the people, does this feel like the rule of the people, where is the rule of the people.”

But it turned out the person in question was actually a Congress member named Sheikh Aamir who was peddling the Congress narrative of separatism and exposed how they wanted the valley to go back into the dark ages.
