BJP Tamil Nadu Vice President K. Annamalai who was campaigning in Kerala for the local body elections, met with folksinger Nanjiyamma of Ayyapanum Koshiyum fame who rendered the mesmerizing composition ‘Kalakattha’, the movie’s title track.
The former IPS officer was campaigning in the Attapadi area which has 3 panchayats – Sholaiyur, Agali and Pudur. Annamalai, who became a fan of her after seeing Ayyapanum Koshiyum, came to know that she resides in Attapadi and proceeded to visit the folksinger at her home
Speaking to The Commune, Annamalai said “I spent about 30 minutes at her place. One rarely comes across such genuine, simple and godly souls. She has this innocence that the people of those times have and yet she is as confident as a millennial of this generation. The fact that Nanjiyamma who in this age had made a mark for herself, the Irula language and her community is truly remarkable. She is an inspiration to all of us.”
When asked what was the take away from the meet, Annamalai replied “To stay grounded no matter what heights one may achieve!”
God resides among simple souls!
