After Opposition leaders in Tamil Nadu and people on social media called out the duplicity and hypocrisy of alleged ‘actor’ Suriya for his silence on the Kallakuichi hooch tragedy that has claimed over 50 lives, the virtue-signalling actor has shot off a condolence letter that fails to call out the failure of the DMK government while gaslighting victims for ‘sacrificing lives’ to ‘poisonous’ alcohol.
Suriya’s words comes across as blaming the people for the mishap as he says in the letter “Those who are crying and suffering having sacrificed their dear ones to ‘poisonous liquor’, with what words do I console them?”
The term ‘poisonous liquor’ is being peddled by Dravidianist media in order to confuse people and save the face of the DMK government by making it sound as if people drank liquor that was laced with poison while the correct term to be used is ‘hooch’ or ‘illicit liquor’ which is brewed by miscreants having political patronage.
Suriya, like a card-carrying DMK stooge, has used the term ‘poisonous’ liquor throughout the letter so as to not upset his masters.
Adding further, Suriya writes that “It is heartening that the [DMK] government and the administration is working expeditiously to minimize losses“.
However, sensing that singing paeans for the DMK now would earn him ill will he goes on to mildly criticize the DMK saying that such short-term solutions to chronic problems will not yield results.
Continuing his soft criticism, Suriya says “Last year in a similar incident, 22 people died after consuming methanol-laced ‘poisonous liquor’. The [DMK] government assured that strict action would be taken. Now, in the neighbouring district, people have died in flocks after consuming the same methanol-laced ‘poisonous liquor’. It is saddening that nothing has changed.”
While it has emerged that some of the bootleggers involved were linked to the DMK, Suriya went on to do monkey-balancing by blaming both the DMK and ADMK for making Tamil people intoxicated with TASMAC.
“Tamil Nadu people vote in the hope that the political parties will improve their lives, but we’ve seen how for more than 20 years, successive governments have made people drink through TASMAC“, Suriya said adding that the policy of liquor prohibition becomes a talking point only during elections. Further in the letter, Surya blamed both the DMK and ADMK saying “Governments incentivizing drinking and inflicting violence on its own people over the past many years should stop immediately.”
He further goes on to say in his letter that people purchase ‘poisonous liquor’ at ₹50 when people don’t have money to buy alcohol from TASMC for ₹150.
Subtly praising the DMK government, Suriya said that just like how the [DMK] government is implementing visionary schemes for the students to progress in education, he called for rehabilitating alcohol addicts and turn it into a movement.
Furthering his buttering of MK Stalin, Suriya goes on to say “Following the short-term measures, I along with the people believe that the Hon’ble Chief Minister will take the best decision in the interest of the people on the issue of liquor prohibition.”
Instead of condemning the DMK government, Suriya expressed his condemnation towards “administration” for not controlling the illegal sale of illicit liquor.
“My strong condemnations to the ‘administration’ for failing to ban the illegal sale of ‘poisonous liquor’. Deepest condolences to the deceased. Prayers to those are in the hospital.”

It is to be noted that Suriya’s letter comes after Vijay had personally visited the victims in the hospital on 20 June 2024.
Suriya and his family – particularly his wife Jyotika and brother Karthi – have indulged in virtue-signaling in an attempt to peddle DMK propaganda. He was one of the frontrunners in peddling anti-NEET rhetoric and making comments against the National Education Policy 2020. His brother Karthi had called for the boycott of the three farm laws that was implemented by the Modi Government ignorant of the fact that such laws were already in place in Tamil Nadu. His wife, actress Jyothika, who previously advocated for constructing schools and hospitals instead of temples.
After the DMK came to power, Suriya along with his family moved to Mumbai and currently live in a sea-view house allegedly worth ₹70 crore. Despite Suriya residing with his family in Mumbai, armed policemen continue to guard his Chennai residence, courtesy the DMK government in Tamil Nadu.
