Video of VCK leader Thirumavalavan calling Saivite Tamil Sage Thirugnanasambandar a ‘murderer’ resurfaces, BJP’s H. Raja and IMK’s Arjun Sampath condemn remarks

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) head Thol. Thirumavalavan, known for his Hinduphobic statements has once again found himself in another controversy for making a derogatory remark on Hindu Saivite Tamil Sage Thirugnanasambandar.

At a book release event held on 9th December 2017, the VCK leader claims that he was listening someone talk about Kirupanandha Vaariyaar (a Hindu Saivite spiritual teacher) in which they had allegedly told that Thirugnanasambandar’s parents had prayed to Lord Shiva for a son to decimate the two ‘Para Samayam‘ (Dalit Religions) – Jainism and Buddhism.

“They are using the term ‘Para Samayam‘ for Jainism and Buddhism. Not ‘Parai Samayam’ but ‘Para Samayam‘”, he says.

He then goes on to narrate the story of Thirugnanasambandar about how Lord Shiva and Parvathi appeared before him and gave him the ‘gnaana paal‘ (divine milk of wisdom) citing Kirupanandha Vaariyaar.

He later adds “Kirupanandha Vaariyar mentions that Thirugnanasambandar was born to decimate Jainism and Buddhism. That is why he goes to Madurai. It is after his songs that 8000 Jains (ennayiram Samanargal) were murdered. They were killed by shoving a sharp rod through their anus that makes its way through the stomach, heart, and protrudes out of the head. The Jains just lay in that rod and die eaten to be later by crows and eagles. This is the horrific manner in which they were killed.

This video has resurfaced on social media drawing the attention of Indu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath and BJP leader H. Raja.

H. Raja in a tweet said that the Tamil Nadu government should immediately arrest Thirumavalavan for calling Thirugnanasambandar a murderer. “The person who spoke derogatorily of Hindu women has spoken of Thirugnasambandar in a deliberate attempt to stir social conflict” the BJP leader said in his tweet.

Indu Makkal Katchi founder and head Arjun Sampath also condemned Thirumavalavan’s statements. He said that his statements exposed his hollow knowledge on Tamil Saivite literature like the Thirumurais. He mentioned that the VCK leader’s commentary ‘ennayiram samanargal’ was totally wrong as ‘ennayiram samanargal’ refer to a descent of Jains and not ‘8000 Jains’ adding that ‘ennayiram samanargal’ and Thirugnansambandar had entered into an agreement to climb the ‘kazhumaram’ if either of them lost in the debate.

Recently, Thirumavalavan courted trouble when he said “All women are prostitutes as per Hindu Dharma.. Manu Dharma..” during an online seminar organized by Periyarist groups.

In November 2019, he was booked for hurting religious sentiments when he made a comment on temples. He had said “if a structure built like a dome it is a Mosque, if there is a tall tower like structure it is a Church, if there are ugly figurines it is a Hindu temple”.

In 2017, he had also called for the demolition of all Sivan and Vishnu temples and building Buddhist vihars.
