A 57-year-old Islamic cleric in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, died after his second wife castrated him for expressing his desire to marry for the third time.
The alleged incident took place in Shikarpur village on Thursday evening when Maulvi Vakil Ahmad’s second wife Hazra attacked him after he turned a deaf ear to her pleas not to take a third wife.
Hazra told the police that her husband was planning to marry another woman, which triggered a quarrel between them, and that later that night, while the Maulvi was asleep, she cut off his manhood with a sharp-edged kitchen knife and he “bled to death.”
Hazra added that she attempted to perform his last rites with the help of her relatives but was caught after neighbours became suspicious and alerted the cops. The woman admitted to the crime when questioned by the police.
Hazra has been charged with murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Bhorakla police station. The victim’s body has been sent for a post mortem, according to Station House Officer (SHO) Nitendra Singh. Further investigations are underway.
