US Riots: Gandhi statue in Washington desecrated, US envoy apologises

As violence grips cities of US over the death of George Floyd, many incidents of looting, arson and vandalism are being reported with protestors breaking glass panes of buildings and torching small business enterprises. Now, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Indian Embassy Washington DC has been vandalized by miscreants of the #BlackLivesMatter protestors.

News agency ANI had tweeted that the United States Park Police have launched an investigation into the matter. The statue was later covered.

US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster had apologized for the desecration of the statue. “So sorry to see the desecration of the Gandhi statue in Wash, DC. Please accept our sincere apologies,” the Ambassador said.

He tweeted that he was appalled by the death of George Floyd and the awful violence and vandalism. “We stand against prejudice & discrimination of any type. We will recover & be better,” he added.
