UP to emulate Pulse Polio Immunisation model against COVID-19

In order to battle against COVID-19, the government of Uttar Pradesh has decided to follow the Pulse Polio immunisation model. In an announcement on 28 June 2020, Amit Mohan Prasad, the additional chief secretary of the state said that the campaign will begin on 1 July 2020.

In this campaign, health teams will conduct door-to-door surveys to identify potential cases and the risk associated with contracting the virus from certain vulnerable groups. The vulnerable group includes people with respiratory diseases, kidney disease, blood pressure, or diabetes.

The health teams will also report for ailments such as Severe Acute Respiratory Distress in all its regions throughout the campaign. People who are identified to have a history of ailments will be asked to adhere to safety protocols to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.

“We have decided to take the COVID-19 surveillance mechanism to a new level with the campaign beginning next month from the Meerut division,” he said.

So far, the health teams, over the past months, have surveyed more than 10 million households in the state covering a population of over 56 million people to report Covid-19 cases.

Uttar Pradesh has reported more than 21000 confirmed cases with more than 600 deaths. The number of recovered cases cross 14000.
