UP CM: Prohibited animals like cow will not be sacrificed on Bakrid, qurbani allowed only in designated spots

In the wake of the upcoming Bakrid festival, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued specific guidelines due to the prevailing Covid situation, and no cow, camel, or any other prohibited animal was sacrificed on the festival of Bakrid (July 21).

As per the new, directive, no more than 50 persons should congregate at one spot at a time, and that the place for ‘qurbani’ (sacrifice of animals) should not be a public place, and only designated spots will be allowed for the ritual.

The UP CM said, “All administrative preparations in view of the festival of Bakrid should be completed. Considering Covid-19, not more than 50 people should gather at any place associated with the festival. Ensure that no cow, camel, or any other prohibited animal is sacrificed. The sacrifice must not take place at any public place and only earmarked places, or private spaces should be used (for sacrifice). Cleanliness should be paid special attention to. Issue detailed guidelines in this regard,”.

The CM also ordered that proper hygiene standards should be maintained at all places because the bloodletting leads to underground water pollution. 

Earlier, the annual Kanwar Yatra was canceled in UP and Utrakhand because of the Covid-19 situation as the threat of the third wave the pandemic looms large.
