In a series of elections reflecting the growing political influence of Muslim Americans, it seems that the United States of America is on its way to become Islamic States of America soon.
Democrat Ghazala Hashmi secured a historic victory in the race for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
Hashmi, a former college professor, becomes the first Indian American and the first Muslim to hold a statewide office in Virginia. Her win adds to a trend of milestone elections for Muslim American politicians in major U.S. cities and states.
Hashmi’s political career began with her election to the Virginia Senate in 2019. Her campaign for Lieutenant Governor focused heavily on protecting reproductive rights and expanding access to education. In her new role, she will preside over a narrowly divided state Senate, where Democrats hold a 21-19 majority, and will cast deciding votes in the event of a tie. Her election will trigger a special election to fill her now-vacant Senate seat.
Zohran Mamdani
This result follows the recent election of Zohran Mamdani, a radical Islamist who has been seen rubbing shoulders with rabid antisemitic people who also refer to terrorists as soldiers. Mamdani has also been seen with Hamas supporters and had shied away from condemning sharia. Mamdani has been seen raising slogans in support of “Globalize the Intifada”.
Omar Fateh
Meanwhile, in Minneapolis, a high-profile mayoral race is still going on – the counting hasn’t finished as of publication of this report. Incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey, a mainstream Democrat seeking a third term, led State Senator Omar Fateh in the first round of ranked-choice voting. Fateh, who aims to become the city’s first Muslim and Somali American mayor, has forced the contest into a second round of counting.
The Frey-Fateh contest has become a focal point for debates over policing, housing, and the ongoing Israel-Gaza war. Fateh has promised his supporters that he will alert the illegal immigrants before ICE raids.
Mussab Ali
In another race drawing attention, Jersey City mayoral candidate Mussab Ali, who is of Pakistani origin, has been endorsed by jihadi supporter U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, as he seeks to unseat the incumbent.
Analysts point to these contests as evidence of Muslim Americans achieving unprecedented political representation. This only proves that USA is going the UK way. New York has fallen, Virginia got its Muslim Lt Governor, will Minneapolis and Jersey City also see that next?
