Udhayanidhi in disdain as Karnan movie crew snubs him

Director Mari Selvaraj’s film “Karnan” was released last Friday, in which Dhanush has played the protagonist. While the film was widely talked about among movie circles, DMK’s Udayanidhi commented on an incident that was reported to have taken place during the DMK regime in 1997.

Udayanidhi mentioned in his Twitter post, “I saw ‘Karnan’. The film should be celebrated without exaggerating the pain of the oppressed people and their denied rights. I spoke to my friend Dhanush, producer Thanu and director Mari Selvaraj and expressed my love and greetings. The film focuses on the 1995 Kodiyankulam riots during the AIADMK regime and shows that the incident took place in 1997 during the AIADMK regime. I pointed this out to the producer and director. They promised to correct the mistake in two days. Thank you. ”

Many saw this is an attempt to intimidate the makers of the film to give in to the diktats of the DMK Youth Wing Secretary.

Following this, the crew changed the scenes from “Karnan” to “1997” and “late 1990s” from Wednesday’s show. But the late 1990s was also the reign of DMK. Following this, Udayanidhi has expressed his displeasure on his Twitter account.

“There is no alternative to Karnan being a must watch film. I pointed out to the producer-director that the Kodiyankulam riots of 1995 were shown to have taken place in 1997. They also promised to rectify it and have done it today. Correcting it while pointing out an error in the work is welcome. Everyone knows that the Kodiyankulam riots took place in 1995 under the AIADMK regime. There is ample evidence for that. However, the movie shows this to have happened in the late ’90s, voices of dissatisfaction arose over the proposed revision. Kalaignar’s contributions to the upliftment of the oppressed people are immortalized by time. No one can deny-hide it. So, let’s get rid of this issue and focus on creative work. I would like to express my love and greetings again to the Karnan crew. ” Udhayanidhi wrote in his tweet.

Ever since the change was made, the hashtag #90களின்பிற்பகுதியிலிருந்து (from the latter part of 90s) has been trending on social media with many taking jibes at the DMK.

Many also congratulated Mari Selvaraj for not giving in to the subtle intimidation of Udhayanidhi Stalin and for exposing the DMK’s claims about social justice.
