Twitter deactivates Amul’s account after its boycott China post

Amul’s Twitter account on June 4 was deactivated temporarily after the dairy cooperative’s topical featuring the famous Amul Butter Girl was released in which the Amul Girl can be seen showing her palm to a trembling Chinese dragon.

Twitter had said that the action was taken for the “safety of the account” and not related to the content published. Amul then took the matter with Twitter. Upon going through the reactivation process, the account was live the next morning.

It was reported that Twitter had deactivated the account as it was caught in the spam filter and that it a simple reCAPTCHA process would be required to ensure that an account was not compromised.

“These challenges are simple for authentic account owners to solve, but difficult (or costly) for spammy or malicious account owners to complete. Once the account clears this security step, as was the case with @Amul_Coop, the account regains full access. To protect the accounts we routinely require them to clear this security key for login verification.”, it said.

Amul first topical came in 1966 titled “Thoroughbread” showing the Amul girl as a jockey holding a slice of bread during the horse race season.

From then on, it has become a chronicler of all major events happening across the world.
