Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay’s wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, has filed a petition seeking divorce before the Chengalpattu Family Welfare Court, drawing widespread attention.
According to the filing, Sangeeta has sought dissolution of the marriage after more than 25 years, stating that she has been living separately from Vijay. The couple, who married in August 1999, have two children – Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.
The petition has been moved under provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, specifically invoking Sections 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d), which permit divorce on grounds including adultery and cruelty. In the plea, Sangeeta has alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress. She has stated that she discovered the alleged relationship in 2021 and that this formed the basis of her decision to seek legal separation.
In the petition screenshots that are circulating on social media, Sangeetha mentions some explicit details. The petition says, “Since 2021, the Respondent has emotionally withdrawn, treated the Petitioner with verbal disdain and subjected her to constructive desertion, forcing her to live separately within the matrimonial home.
The Respondent, continued to travel abroad and attend public events, with the said actress. The actress regularly posted photographs of these outings on social media. The Respondent neither denied nor objected to these posts, thereby tacitly endorsing them. These posts, widely circulated, caused repeated humiliation to the Petitioner and the children.
The Respondent’s continued open association with the actress caused emotional agony to the Petitioner and embarrassment to the children among their friends, social circle and on social media.”

The petition further claims that despite assurances from Vijay that the relationship would end, it allegedly continued without remorse. These allegations form the core grounds cited by Sangeeta in the ongoing proceedings.
The matter is currently before the family court and is scheduled for hearing on 20 March 2026, when both Vijay and Sangeeta are expected to appear.
The divorce plea comes after 27 years of marriage.
