The News Minute’s Dhanya Rajendran has been targeting Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who was the head of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
Following the Hema Committee Report and the wave of sexual harassment allegations in the industry, Mohanlal resigned from his post at AMMA. Mohanlal stated he was “not part of any power group” and had “no knowledge” of such groups in the industry. He acknowledged that AMMA could not address all issues within the vast Malayalam cinema industry. Mohanlal emphasized, “Wrongdoers should be punished if there is evidence against them,” and supported the government’s decision to release the Hema Committee report.
Dhanya shared an article on Radhika Sarathkumar making a startling revelation about a movie she worked in the Malayalam film industry. The cover picture of this article had Mohanlal’s picture on it. If we look into the article, there is no reference to Mohanlal anywhere inside. Radhika did not mention anything about Lal in the Asianet interview nor was there any reference to him anywhere on that page. And yet, she used the picture.
Radhika Sarathkumar has made a startling revelation about a movie she did in Malayalam. She spoke to Asianet, watch it and then read what we wrote about men collecting souvenirs

The word AMMA is mentioned 4 times on the whole page, and she had put it behind a paywall! Here are some netizen reactions calling out the hypocrisy of The News Minute, Dhanya, and her minions.
Using a picture of legend for more followers . Also please mention about drug users 🇵🇸😂💩

You Have Used #Mohanlal's Photo In This Report. Everybody Know You're A Blind Hater of Mohanlal. But This Is Beyond The Limits. Did Radhika Sarath Kumar Mentioned Anywhere Mohanlal Is The Person Behind All of These? You Are Now Almost Equal To Those Who Does Yellow Journalism

Dear Dhanya,
We all know you don’t like @Mohanlal and he is not above criticism. But to put his pic in a report which is not at all related to him is not ethical! Posting about transparency, self respect, fair journalism doesn’t add up if your actions speak otherwise! Introspect!— say the truth (@arjunjagadeesh) August 31, 2024
What was the need of posting Mohanlal's photo to your tweet? When his involvement is not proved. Ur credibility is at stake. If you have some decency, apologize & remove this tweet with Mohanlal photo. https://t.co/ByGCA9fkBc

Perfect example for MEDIA CANNIBALISM.
For just some click baits and reach these pseudo paparazzi journalists will sell anything, i mean ANYTHING😏 https://t.co/s5MxzzWQis— MalluFlix (@malluflix_1) September 2, 2024
It's unimaginable how someone could be so morally & intellectually bankrupt, when it comes to @dhanyarajendran .
+ even cowardly (favourite adj of WCC warriors) of her to hide it behind a paywall. 😂
I won't insult #Mohanlal by giving a reply to this plaguing digital media bug. https://t.co/3XyCdwQaAD

Many netizens pulled out pictures of her with Rima Kallingal who has been accused of hosting rave parties in Kerala.

When netizens questioned her intent in using Mohanlal’s picture, her minions came out in support of her one by one.
Korah Abraham who works at TNM came up with a thread of posts to explain why it was done so. He wrote, “Lot of outrage regarding Mohanlal’s picture being used in this article. It’s because it was published on Aug 27 and was about AMMA and Mohanlal. You will know why @dhanyarajendran made the Radhika reference if you read the article. One section was on men collecting souvenirs. These souvenirs as we were told could be CCTV footage to blackmail. Which is why she said check Radhika video (her second tweet) and come back and read this.”

Later, Dhanya and her supporters justified it, saying the newsletter was published a day before Mohanlal quit as AMMA chief. Since the content was related to AMMA, it was seemingly the apparent choice for Dhanya to use his picture!
I was on the team that broke this story, and it’s now been confirmed by several others. For fans upset about using Mohanlal’s image: this newsletter, published the day after he quit AMMA, covered various topics—from his resignation to talks of souvenirs. https://t.co/9ZeN61OhUB pic.twitter.com/JoMx0AW4Bt

Have done this for those genuinely asking us why. Not for fan bots. https://t.co/KfYGfrGlHc
— Dhanya Rajendran (@dhanyarajendran) September 2, 2024
Here are a few more explanations given by her minions and supporters.
Many offended men are attacking this post.
According to them, Mohanlal's picture shouldn’t be used for the thumbnail of an article that discusses mass resignation in AMMA 🤦♂️
The attack on gender-sensitive journalists is not an error but a feature in a patriarchal society. pic.twitter.com/Xecyh8RNuL

Another minion at TNM also did the same and urged people to read the article.
This newsletter, which was behind a paywall, had become the source of a lot of contention because of Mohanlal's image on it. The paywall has now been removed, so those who want to (ie the sensible people who'd like to know what's going on) can read it now.https://t.co/II77hZdl1f
— Lakshmi Priya 🏳🌈 (@lakshmibindu95) September 2, 2024
A writer at TNM also buttressed his paymaster Dhanya by calling out the ‘trolls‘.
The trolling against @dhanyarajendran is driven by accounts with right-wing symbols and a curious overlap with Mohanlal's fandom.
It’s not just trolling; it’s a coordinated effort to silence voices.
But here's the thing: the louder they get, the more obvious their desperation.
— Nidheesh M K (@mknid) September 2, 2024
Yet another minion at TNM begged people to read the article which had by then been removed from the paywall after the outrage.
This is not anymore behind paywall…please read to understand why Mohanlal picture is used. https://t.co/myAdMVaO64
— Haritha John (@HarithaJohn1) September 2, 2024
Here comes her justification for the usage of Mohanlal’s picture.
When an article is about AMMA why cant we give a picture of its President? https://t.co/AyuQe6lxwo
— Haritha John (@HarithaJohn1) September 3, 2024
These people kept insisting the netizens who questioned the usage of Mohanlal’s picture ‘read’ the article – looks like they tried to do something clickbait, but it backfired. Reader also added community notes which confirmed it was a misleading picture.
