With the much-anticipated Lok Sabha elections results declared, another eagerly awaited outcome was the NEET-UG 2024 exam results. National Testing Agency (NTA) declared its result on 4 June 2024. Surprisingly, in Tamil Nadu, eight students have secured top ranks in the concluded exams. Despite negative propaganda by the DMK in the state, these students have consistently excelled in the exams through hard work and aspirations to pursue careers in medicine.
A remarkable number of students have come in the top 100 ranks with 8 students from Tamil Nadu alone securing All India Rank 1 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2024 examination. Tamil Nadu has once again demonstrated its exceptional performance this year. Last year, Prabanjan J from the state emerged as the national joint topper, along with Bora Varun Chakravarthi from Andhra Pradesh, scoring a percentile of 99.99.
This year, eight students from Tamil Nadu – Syed Aarifin Yusuf M, Shailaja S, Aditya Kumar Panda, Sriram P, Rajaneesh P, Jayathi Poorvaja M, Rohith R, and Sabareesan S – have achieved a perfect 99.99 percentile, securing the top rank. Among them, Syed Aarifin Yusuf M leads in the male category, while Shailaja tops in the female category.
Experts note that this is Tamil Nadu’s most outstanding performance in NEET in recent years. L Samuel, a faculty member at a NEET coaching center, stated, “After Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu stands as the second state in the country with the highest number of AIR 1 rank holders.” He added, “This year, we have eight students with AIR 1, whereas last year, six students from the state were in the top 50 list. This year’s performance surpasses that of the previous year.”
A total of 1,52,920 students from Tamil Nadu appeared for NEET 2024, out of which 89,426 cleared the test. The overall pass percentage stands at 58.47%, up from last year’s 54.45%. Notably, this year witnessed 36,333 students, nearly 6,000 more than last year, taking the exam in Tamil.
Nationwide, 23.33 lakh students participated in NEET 2024, with 13.16 lakh successfully passing the test. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET (UG) exam at 4,750 centers across 571 cities in India, including 14 cities outside the country, on May 5. The examination was administered in 13 languages: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
